Jeremiah 41

1 Ishmael, treacherously killing Gedaliah and others, purposeth with the residue to flee unto the Ammonites. 11 Johanan recovereth the captives, and mindeth to flee into Egypt.

 41:1 In the seventh 7637 month 2320 Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah 5418, the son 1121 of Elishama 476, of the royal 4410 family 2233 and [one] of the chief 7227b officers 7227b of the king 4428, along with ten 6235 men 376, came 935 to Mizpah 4709 to Gedaliah 1436b the son 1121 of Ahikam 296. While they were eating 398 bread 3899 together 3164a there 8033 in Mizpah 4709,

 41:2 Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah 5418 and the ten 6235 men 376 who 834 were with him arose 6965 and struck 5221 down 5221 Gedaliah 1436b the son 1121 of Ahikam 296, the son 1121 of Shaphan 8227b, with the sword 2719 and put 4191 to death 4191 the one whom 834 the king 4428 of Babylon 894 had appointed 6485 over the land 776.

 41:3 Ishmael 3458 also struck 5221 down 5221 all 3605 the Jews 3064 who 834 were with him, [that is] with Gedaliah 1436b at Mizpah 4709, and the Chaldeans 3778 who 834 were found 4672 there 8033, the men 376 of war 4421.

 41:4 ¶ Now it happened 1961 on the next 8145 day 3117 after the killing 4191 of Gedaliah 1436b, when no 3808 one 376 knew 3045 about [it],

 41:5 that eighty 8084 men 376 came 935 from Shechem 7927, from Shiloh 7887, and from Samaria 8111 with their beards 2206 shaved 1548 off 1548 and their clothes 899b torn 7167 and their bodies gashed 1413, having grain offerings 4503 and incense 3828 in their hands 3027 to bring 935 to the house 1004 of the LORD 3068.

 41:6 Then Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah 5418 went 3318 out from Mizpah 4709 to meet 7122 them, weeping 1058 as he went 1980; and as he met 6298 them, he said 559 to them, “Come 935 to Gedaliah 1436b the son 1121 of Ahikam 296!”

 41:7 Yet it turned 1961 out that as soon as they came 935 inside 8432 the city 5892b, Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah 5418 and the men 376 that were with him slaughtered 7819 them [and cast them] into the cistern 953a.

 41:8 But ten 6235 men 376 who were found 4672 among them said 559 to Ishmael 3458, “Do not put 4191 us to death 4191; for we have 3426 stores 4301 of wheat 2406, barley 8184, oil 8081 and honey 1706 hidden 4301 in the field 7704.” So he refrained 2308 and did not put 4191 them to death 4191 along 8432 with their companions 251.

 41:9 ¶ Now as for the cistern 953a where 834 8033 Ishmael 3458 had cast 7993 all 3605 the corpses 6297 of the men 376 whom 834 he had struck 5221 down 5221 because 3027 of Gedaliah 1436b, it was the one that King 4428 Asa 609 had made 6213a on account 4480 6440 of Baasha 1201, king 4428 of Israel 3478; Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah 5418 filled 4390 it with the slain 2491a.

 41:10 Then Ishmael 3458 took 7617 captive 7617 all 3605 the remnant 7611 of the people 5971a who 834 were in Mizpah 4709, the king’s 4428 daughters 1323 and all 3605 the people 5971a who were left 7604 in Mizpah 4709, whom 834 Nebuzaradan 5018 the captain 7227b of the bodyguard 2876 had put 6485 under 6485 the charge 6485 of Gedaliah 1436b the son 1121 of Ahikam 296; thus Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah 5418 took 7617 them captive 7617 and proceeded 1980 to cross 5674a over 5674a to the sons 1121 of Ammon 5983.

 41:11 ¶ But Johanan 3076 the son 1121 of Kareah 7143 and all 3605 the commanders 8269 of the forces 2428 that were with him heard 8085 of all 3605 the evil 7463a that Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah 5418 had done 6213a.

 41:12 So they took 3947 all 3605 the men 376 and went 1980 to fight 3898a with Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah 5418 and they found 4672 him by the great 7227a pool 4325 that is in Gibeon 1391.

 41:13 Now as soon as all 3605 the people 5971a who 834 were with Ishmael 3458 saw 7200 Johanan 3076 the son 1121 of Kareah 7143 and the commanders 8269 of the forces 2428 that were with him, they were glad 8055.

 41:14 So all 3605 the people 5971a whom 834 Ishmael 3458 had taken 7617 captive 7617 from Mizpah 4709 turned 5437 around 5437 and came 7725 back 7725, and went 1980 to Johanan 3076 the son 1121 of Kareah 7143.

 41:15 But Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah 5418 escaped 4422 from Johanan 3076 with eight 8083 men 376 and went 1980 to the sons 1121 of Ammon 5983.

 41:16 Then Johanan 3076 the son 1121 of Kareah 7143 and all 3605 the commanders 8269 of the forces 2428 that were with him took 3947 from Mizpah 4709 all 3605 the remnant 7611 of the people 5971a whom 834 he had recovered 7725 from Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah 5418, after 310 he had struck 5221 down 5221 Gedaliah 1436a the son 1121 of Ahikam 296, [that is], the men 376 who were soldiers 582 4421, [the] women 802, [the] children 2945, and [the] eunuchs 5631, whom 834 he had brought 7725 back 7725 from Gibeon 1391.

 41:17 And they went 1980 and stayed 3427 in Geruth 1628 Chimham 3643, which 834 is beside 681a Bethlehem 1035, in order to proceed 1980 935 into Egypt 4714

 41:18 because 4480 6440 of the Chaldeans 3778; for they were afraid 3372a of them, since 3588 Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah 5418 had struck 5221 down 5221 Gedaliah 1436b the son 1121 of Ahikam 296, whom 834 the king 4428 of Babylon 894 had appointed 6485 over the land 776.
