Jeremiah 9

1 Jeremiah lamenteth the Jews for their manifold sins, 9 and for their judgment. 12 Disobedience is the cause of their bitter calamity. 17 He exhorteth to mourn for their destruction, 23 and to trust not in themselves, but in God. 25 He threateneth both Jews and Gentiles.

 9:1 Oh 4310 5414 that my head 7218 were waters 4325 And my eyes 5869 a fountain 4726 of tears 1832, That I might weep 1058 day 3119 and night 3915 For the slain 2491a of the daughter 1323 of my people 5971a!

 9:2 Oh 4310 that I had 5414 in the desert 4057b A wayfarers’ 732 lodging 4411 place 4411; That I might leave 5800a my people 5971a And go 1980 from them! For all 3605 of them are adulterers 5003, An assembly 6116 of treacherous 898 men.

 9:3 “They bend 1869 their tongue 3956 [like] their bow 7198; Lies 8267 and not truth 530 prevail 1396 in the land 776; For they proceed 3318 from evil 7463a to evil 7463a, And they do not know 3045 Me,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 9:4 “Let everyone 376 be on guard 8104 against 4480 his neighbor 7453, And do not trust 982 any 3605 brother 251; Because 3588 every 3605 brother 251 deals 6117 craftily 6117, And every 3605 neighbor 7453 goes 1980 about as a slanderer 7400.

 9:5 “Everyone 376 deceives 8524 his neighbor 7453 And does not speak 1696 the truth 571, They have taught 3925 their tongue 3956 to speak 1696 lies 8267; They weary 3811 themselves committing 5753b iniquity 5753b.

 9:6 “Your dwelling 3427 is in the midst 8432 of deceit 4820; Through deceit 4820 they refuse 3985 to know 3045 Me,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 9:7 ¶ Therefore 3651 thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, “Behold 2009, I will refine 6884 them and assay 974 them; For what 349 [else] can I do 6213a, because 4480 6440 of the daughter 1323 of My people 5971a?

 9:8 “Their tongue 3956 is a deadly 7819 arrow 2671; It speaks 1696 deceit 4820; With his mouth 6310 one speaks 1696 peace 7965 to his neighbor 7453, But inwardly 7130 he sets 7760 an ambush 696 for him.

 9:9 “Shall I not punish 6485 them for these 428 things 428?” declares 5002 the LORD 3068. “On a nation 1471 such 834 as this 2088 Shall I not avenge 5358 Myself 5315?

 9:10 ¶ “For the mountains 2022 I will take 5375 up a weeping 1065 and wailing 5092, And for the pastures 4999 of the wilderness 4057b a dirge 7015, Because 3588 they are laid 5327c waste 5327c so 4480 1097 that no 1097 one 376 passes 5674a through 5674a, And the lowing 6963 of the cattle 4735 is not heard 8085; Both 4480 the birds 5775 of the sky 8064 and the beasts 929 have fled 5074; they are gone 1980.

 9:11 “I will make 5414 Jerusalem 3389 a heap 1530 of ruins, A haunt 4583 of jackals 8565; And I will make 5414 the cities 5892b of Judah 3063 a desolation 8077, without 1097 inhabitant 3427.”

 9:12 ¶ Who 4310 is the wise 2450 man 376 that may understand 995 this 384? And [who is] he to whom 834 the mouth 6310 of the LORD 3068 has spoken 1696, that he may declare 5046 it? Why 5921 4100 is the land 776 ruined 6, laid 5327c waste 5327c like a desert 4057b, so 4480 1097 that no 1097 one 1097 passes 5674a through 5674a?

 9:13 The LORD 3068 said 559, “Because 5921 they have forsaken 5800a My law 8451 which 834 I set 5414 before 6440 them, and have not obeyed 8085 My voice 6963 nor 3808 walked 1980 according to it,

 9:14 but have walked 1980 after 310 the stubbornness 8307 of their heart 3820 and after 310 the Baals 1168a, as their fathers 1 taught 3925 them,”

 9:15 therefore 3651 thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, the God 430 of Israel 3478, “behold 2009, I will feed 398 them, this 2088 people 5971a, with wormwood 3939 and give 8248 them poisoned 7219 water 4325 to drink 8248.

 9:16 “I will scatter 6327a them among the nations 1471, whom 834 neither 3808 they nor 3808 their fathers 1 have known 3045; and I will send 7971 the sword 2719 after 310 them until 5704 I have annihilated 3615 them.”

 9:17 ¶ Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, “Consider 995 and call 7121 for the mourning 6969 women 6969, that they may come 935; And send 7971 for the wailing 2450 women 2450, that they may come 935!

 9:18 “Let them make 4116 haste 4116 and take 5375 up a wailing 5092 for us, That our eyes 5869 may shed 3381 tears 1832 And our eyelids 6079 flow 5140 with water 4325.

 9:19 “For a voice 6963 of wailing 5092 is heard 8085 from Zion 6726, ‘How 349 are we ruined 7703! We are put 954 to great 3966 shame 954, For we have left 5800a the land 776, Because 3588 they have cast 7993 down 7993 our dwellings 4908.’”

 9:20 Now 3588 hear 8085 the word 1697 of the LORD 3068, O you women 802, And let your ear 241 receive 3947 the word 1697 of His mouth 6310; Teach 3925 your daughters 1323 wailing 5092, And everyone 802 her neighbor 7468 a dirge 7015.

 9:21 For death 4194 has come 5927 up through our windows 2474; It has entered 935 our palaces 759 To cut 3772 off 3772 the children 5768 from the streets 2351, The young 970 men 970 from the town 7339 squares 7339.

 9:22 Speak 1696, “Thus 3541 says 5002 the LORD 3068, ‘The corpses 5038 of men 120 will fall 5307 like dung 1828 on the open 6440 field 7704, And like the sheaf 5995 after 4480 310 the reaper 7114b, But no 369 one 369 will gather 622 [them].’”

 9:23 ¶ Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, “Let not a wise 2450 man 2450 boast 1984b of his wisdom 2451, and let not the mighty 1368 man 1368 boast 1984b of his might 1369, let not a rich 6223 man 6223 boast 1984b of his riches 6239;

 9:24 but let him who boasts 1984b boast 1984b of this 384, that he understands 7919a and knows 3045 Me, that I am the LORD 3068 who exercises 6213a lovingkindness 2617a, justice 4941 and righteousness 6666 on earth 776; for I delight 2654a in these 428 things 428,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 9:25 ¶ “Behold 2009, the days 3117 are coming 935,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “that I will punish 6485 all 3605 who are circumcised 4135 and yet uncircumcised 6190—

 9:26 Egypt 4714 and Judah 3063, and Edom 112b and the sons 1121 of Ammon 5983, and Moab 4124 and all 3605 those inhabiting 3427 the desert 4057b who clip 7112 the hair on their temples 6285; for all 3605 the nations 1471 are uncircumcised 6189, and all 3605 the house 1004 of Israel 3478 are uncircumcised 6189 of heart 3820.”
