Jeremiah 35

1 By the obedience of the Rechabites, 12 Jeremiah condemneth the disobedience of the Jews. 18 God blesseth the Rechabites for their obedience.

 35:1 The word 1697 which 834 came 1961 to Jeremiah 3414 from the LORD 3068 in the days 3117 of Jehoiakim 3079 the son 1121 of Josiah 2977, king 4428 of Judah 3063, saying 559,

 35:2 “Go 1980 to the house 1004 of the Rechabites 7397a and speak 1696 to them, and bring 935 them into the house 1004 of the LORD 3068, into one 259 of the chambers 3957, and give 8248 them wine 3196 to drink 8248.”

 35:3 Then I took 3947 Jaazaniah 2970 the son 1121 of Jeremiah 3414, son 1121 of Habazziniah 2262, and his brothers 251 and all 3605 his sons 1121 and the whole 3605 house 1004 of the Rechabites 7397a,

 35:4 and I brought 935 them into the house 1004 of the LORD 3068, into the chamber 3957 of the sons 1121 of Hanan 2605 the son 1121 of Igdaliah 3012, the man 376 of God 430, which 834 was near 681a the chamber 3957 of the officials 8269, which 834 was above 4480 4605 the chamber 3957 of Maaseiah 4641 the son 1121 of Shallum 7967, the doorkeeper 8104 5592b.

 35:5 Then I set 5414 before 6440 the men 1121 of the house 1004 of the Rechabites 7397a pitchers 1375 full 4392 of wine 3196 and cups 3563a; and I said 559 to them, “Drink 8354 wine 3196!”

 35:6 But they said 559, “We will not drink 8354 wine 3196, for Jonadab 3082 the son 1121 of Rechab 7394, our father 1, commanded 6680 us, saying 559, ‘You shall not drink 8354 wine 3196, you or your sons 1121, forever 5704 5769.

 35:7 ‘You shall not build 1129 a house 1004, and you shall not sow 2232 seed 2233 and you shall not plant 5193 a vineyard 3754 or own 1961 one; but in tents 168 you shall dwell 3427 all 3605 your days 3117, that you may live 2421a many 7227a days 3117 in the land 127 where 834 8033 you sojourn 1481a.’

 35:8 “We have obeyed 8085 the voice 6963 of Jonadab 3082 the son 1121 of Rechab 7394, our father 1, in all 3605 that he commanded 6680 us, not to drink 8354 wine 3196 all 3605 our days 3117, we, our wives 802, our sons 1121 or our daughters 1323,

 35:9 nor 1115 to build 1129 ourselves houses 1004 to dwell 3427 in; and we do not have 1961 vineyard 3754 or field 7704 or seed 2233.

 35:10 “We have only dwelt 3427 in tents 168, and have obeyed 8085 and have done 6213a according to all 3605 that Jonadab 3082 our father 1 commanded 6680 us.

 35:11 “But when Nebuchadnezzar 5019 king 4428 of Babylon 894 came 5927 up against 413 the land 776, we said 559, ‘Come 935 and let us go 935 to Jerusalem 3389 before 4480 6440 the army 2428 of the Chaldeans 3778 and before 4480 6440 the army 2428 of the Arameans 758.’ So we have dwelt 3427 in Jerusalem 3389.”

 35:12 ¶ Then the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 came 1961 to Jeremiah 3414, saying 559,

 35:13 “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, the God 430 of Israel 3478, ‘Go 1980 and say 559 to the men 376 of Judah 3063 and the inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389, “Will you not receive 3947 instruction 4148 by listening 8085 to My words 1697?” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 35:14 “The words 1697 of Jonadab 3082 the son 1121 of Rechab 7394, which 834 he commanded 6680 his sons 1121 not to drink 8354 wine 3196, are observed 6965. So they do not drink 8354 [wine] to this 2088 day 3117, for they have obeyed 8085 their father’s 1 command 4687. But I have spoken 1696 to you again 7925 and again 1696; yet you have not listened 8085 to Me.

 35:15 “Also I have sent 7971 to you all 3605 My servants 5650 the prophets 5030, sending 7971 [them] again 7925 and again 7971, saying 559: ‘Turn 7725 now 4994 every 376 man 376 from his evil 7451a way 1870 and amend 3190 your deeds 4611, and do not go 1980 after 310 other 312 gods 430 to worship 5647 them. Then you will dwell 3427 in the land 127 which 834 I have given 5414 to you and to your forefathers 1; but you have not inclined 5186 your ear 241 or listened 8085 to Me.

 35:16 ‘Indeed 3588, the sons 1121 of Jonadab 3082 the son 1121 of Rechab 7394 have observed 6965 the command 4687 of their father 1 which 834 he commanded 6680 them, but this 2088 people 5971a has not listened 8085 to Me.’”’

 35:17 “Therefore 3651 thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, the God 430 of hosts 6635, the God 430 of Israel 3478, ‘Behold 2009, I am bringing 935 on Judah 3063 and on all 3605 the inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389 all 3605 the disaster 7463a that I have pronounced 1696 against 5921 them; because 3282 I spoke 1696 to them but they did not listen 8085, and I have called 7121 them but they did not answer 6030a.’”

 35:18 ¶ Then Jeremiah 3414 said 559 to the house 1004 of the Rechabites 7397a, “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, the God 430 of Israel 3478, ‘Because 3282 834 you have obeyed 8085 the command 4687 of Jonadab 3082 your father 1, kept 8104 all 3605 his commands 4687 and done 6213a according to all 3605 that he commanded 6680 you;

 35:19 therefore 3651 thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, the God 430 of Israel 3478, “Jonadab 3082 the son 1121 of Rechab 7394 shall not lack 3772 a man 376 to stand 5975 before 6440 Me always 3605 3117.”’”
