Jeremiah 19

Under the type of breaking a potter's vessel is foreshewed the desolation of the Jews for their sins.

 19:1 Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, “Go 1980 and buy 7069 a potter’s 3335 earthenware 2789 jar 1228, and [take] some 4480 of the elders 2205 of the people 5971a and some 4480 of the senior 2205 priests 3548.

 19:2 “Then go 3318 out to the valley 1516 of Ben-hinnom 1121 2011, which 834 is by the entrance 6607 of the potsherd 2777 gate 8179, and proclaim 7121 there 8033 the words 1697 that I tell 1696 you,

 19:3 and say 559, ‘Hear 8085 the word 1697 of the LORD 3068, O kings 4428 of Judah 3063 and inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389: thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, the God 430 of Israel 3478, “Behold 2009 I am about to bring 935 a calamity 7463a upon this 2088 place 4725, at which 834 the ears 241 of everyone 3605 that hears 8085 of it will tingle 6750.

 19:4 “Because 3282 834 they have forsaken 5800a Me and have made 5235a this 2088 an alien 5235a place 4725 and have burned 6999 sacrifices 6999 in it to other 312 gods 430, that neither 3808 they nor 3808 their forefathers 1 nor 3808 the kings 4428 of Judah 3063 had [ever] known 3045, and [because] they have filled 4390 this 2088 place 4725 with the blood 1818 of the innocent 5355a

 19:5 and have built 1129 the high 1116 places 1116 of Baal 1168a to burn 8313 their sons 1121 in the fire 784 as burnt 5930a offerings 5930a to Baal 1168a, a thing which 834 I never 3808 commanded 6680 or spoke 1696 of, nor 3808 did it [ever] enter 5927 My mind 3820;

 19:6 therefore 3651, behold 2009, days 3117 are coming 935,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “when this 2088 place 4725 will no 3808 longer 5750 be called 7121 Topheth 8612 or the valley 1516 of Ben-hinnom 1121 2011, but rather 3588 518 the valley 1516 of Slaughter 2028.

 19:7 “I will make 1238b void 1238b the counsel 6098 of Judah 3063 and Jerusalem 3389 in this 2088 place 4725, and I will cause them to fall 5307 by the sword 2719 before 6440 their enemies 340 and by the hand 3027 of those who seek 1245 their life 5315; and I will give 5414 over their carcasses 5038 as food 3978 for the birds 5775 of the sky 8064 and the beasts 929 of the earth 776.

 19:8 “I will also make 7760 this 384 city 5892b a desolation 8047 and an [object of] hissing 8322; everyone 3605 who passes 5674a by it will be astonished 8074 and hiss 8319 because 5921 of all 3605 its disasters 4347.

 19:9 “I will make them eat 398 the flesh 1320 of their sons 1121 and the flesh 1320 of their daughters 1323, and they will eat 398 one 376 another’s 7453 flesh 1320 in the siege 4692 and in the distress 4689 with which 834 their enemies 340 and those who seek 1245 their life 5315 will distress 6693 them.”’

 19:10 ¶ “Then you are to break 7665 the jar 1228 in the sight 5869 of the men 376 who accompany 1980 854 you

 19:11 and say 559 to them, ‘Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, “Just 3602 so 3602 will I break 7665 this 2088 people 5971a and this 384 city 5892b, even 3512c as one breaks 7665 a potter’s 3335 vessel 3627, which 834 cannot 3201 3808 again 5750 be repaired 7495; and they will bury 6912 in Topheth 8612 because 4480 there 369 is no 369 [other] place 4725 for burial 6912.

 19:12 “This 3651 is how 3651 I will treat 6213a this 2088 place 4725 and its inhabitants 3427,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “so as to make 5414 this 384 city 5892b like Topheth 8612.

 19:13 “The houses 1004 of Jerusalem 3389 and the houses 1004 of the kings 4428 of Judah 3063 will be defiled 2931 like the place 4725 Topheth 8612, because of all 3605 the houses 1004 on whose 834 rooftops 1406 they burned 6999 sacrifices 6999 to all 3605 the heavenly 8064 host 6635 and poured 5258a out drink 5262a offerings 5262a to other 312 gods 430.”’”

 19:14 ¶ Then Jeremiah 3414 came 935 from Topheth 8612, where 834 8033 the LORD 3068 had sent 7971 him to prophesy 5012; and he stood 5975 in the court 2691a of the LORD’S 3068 house 1004 and said 559 to all 3605 the people 5971a:

 19:15 “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068 of hosts 6635, the God 430 of Israel 3478, ‘Behold 2009, I am about to bring 935 on this 384 city 5892b and all 3605 its towns 5892b the entire 3605 calamity 7463a that I have declared 1696 against 5921 it, because 3588 they have stiffened 7185 their necks 6203 so as not to heed 8085 My words 1697.’”
