 15:1 ¶ And certain men came down from Judaea and taught the brethren, [saying], Except ye be circumcised after the custom of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

 15:1 ¶ Andº certain menº which came downºº fromº Judaeaº taughtºº theº brethren,º [and said],º Exceptº ye be circumcisedºº after theº mannerº of Moses,º ye cannotººº be saved.ºº

 15:2 And when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and questioning with them, [the brethren] appointed that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.

 15:2 When thereforeº Paulº andº Barnabasº hadºº noº smallº dissensionº andº disputationº withº them,º they determinedºº that Paulº andº Barnabas,º andº certainº otherº ofº them,º should go upºº toº Jerusalemº untoº theº apostlesº andº eldersº aboutº thisº question.º

 15:3 They therefore, being brought on their way by the church, passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

 15:3 Andºº beingº brought on their wayºº byº theº church,º theyº passed throughºº Pheniceº andº Samaria,º declaringºº theº conversionº of theº Gentiles:º andº they causedºº greatº joyº unto allºº theº brethren.º

 15:4 And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church and the apostles and the elders, and they rehearsed all things that God had done with them.

 15:4 Andº when they were comeºº toº Jerusalem,º they were receivedºº ofº theº church,º andº [of] theº apostlesº andº elders,º andº they declaredºº all thingsº thatº Godº had doneºº withº them.º

 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees who believed, saying, It is needful to circumcise them, and to charge them to keep the law of Moses.

 15:5 Butº there rose upºº certainº ofº theº sectº of theº Phariseesº which believed,ºº saying,ºº Thatº it was needfulºº to circumciseºº them,º andº to commandºº [them] to keepºº theº lawº of Moses.º

 15:6 ¶ And the apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider of this matter.

 15:6 ¶ Andº theº apostlesº andº eldersº came togetherºº for to considerºº ofº thisº matter.º

 15:7 And when there had been much questioning, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Brethren, ye know that a good while ago God made choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

 15:7 Andº when there had beenºº muchº disputing,º Peterº rose up,ºº and saidºº untoº them,º Menº [and] brethren,º yeº knowºº how thatº a goodº whileº agoººº Godº made choiceºº amongº us,º that theº Gentilesº byº myº mouthº should hearºº theº wordº of theº gospel,º andº believe.ºº

 15:8 And God, who knoweth the heart, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Spirit, even as he did unto us;

 15:8 Andº God,º which knoweth the hearts,º bare themº witness,ººº givingºº themº theº Holyº Ghost,º evenº asº [he did]º unto us;º

 15:9 and he made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.

 15:9 Andº putºº noº differenceººº betweenºº usº andº them,º purifyingºº theirº heartsº by faith.º

 15:10 Now therefore why make ye trial of God, that ye should put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

 15:10 Nowº thereforeº whyº temptº yeºº God,º to putºº a yokeº uponº theº neckº of theº disciples,º whichº neitherº ourº fathersº norº weº were ableºº to bear?ºº

 15:11 But we believe that we shall be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in like manner as they.

 15:11 Butº we believeºº that throughº theº graceº of theº Lordº Jesusº Christº we shall be saved,ºº evenºº asº they.ºººº

 15:12 ¶ And all the multitude kept silence; and they hearkened unto Barnabas and Paul rehearsing what signs and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles through them.

 15:12 ¶ Thenº allº theº multitudeº kept silence,ºº andº gave audienceºº to Barnabasº andº Paul,º declaringºº whatº miraclesº andº wondersº Godº had wroughtºº amongº theº Gentilesº byº them.º

 15:13 ¶ And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Brethren, hearken unto me:

 15:13 ¶ Andº afterº theyº had heldºº theirº peace,ºº Jamesºº answered,ºº saying,ºº Menº [and] brethren,º hearkenºº unto me:º

 15:14 Symeon hath rehearsed how first God visited the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

 15:14 Simeonº hath declaredºº howº Godº at the firstº did visitºº the Gentiles,º to takeºº out ofº them a peopleº forº hisºº name.º

 15:15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

 15:15 Andº to thisº agreeºº theº wordsº of theº prophets;º asº it is written,ºº

 15:16 After these things I will return, And I will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen; And I will build again the ruins thereof, And I will set it up:

 15:16 Afterº thisº I will return,ºº andº will build againºº theº tabernacleº of David,º whichº is fallen down;ºº andº I will build againºº theº ruinsºº thereof,º andº I will setºº itº up:ººº

 15:17 That the residue of men may seek after the Lord, And all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called,

 15:17 Thatºº theº residueº of menº might seek afterººº theº Lord,º andº allº theº Gentiles,º uponº whomº myº nameº is called,ºººº saithººº the Lord,º whoº doethºº allº these things.º

 15:18 Saith the Lord, who maketh these things known from of old.

 15:18 Knownº unto Godº areºº allº hisºº worksº fromº the beginning of the world.º

 15:19 Wherefore my judgment is, that we trouble not them that from among the Gentiles turn to God;

 15:19 Whereforeº myº sentence is,ºº that we troubleºº notº them, whichº fromº amongº theº Gentilesº are turnedºº toº God:º

 15:20 but that we write unto them, that they abstain from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from blood.

 15:20 Butº that we writeºº unto them,º that they abstainºº fromº pollutionsº of idols,ºº andº [from] fornication,º andº [from] things strangled,º andº [from] blood.º

 15:21 For Moses from generations of old hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath.

 15:21 Forº Mosesº ofº oldº timeººº hathºº in everyº cityºº them that preachºº him,º being readºº inº theº synagoguesº everyºº sabbath day.º

 15:22 Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men out of their company, and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; [namely], Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

 15:22 Thenº pleasedº itºº theº apostlesº andº elders,º withº theº wholeº church,º to sendºº chosenºº menº ofº their own companyº toº Antiochº withº Paulº andº Barnabas;º [namely], Judasº surnamedºº Barsabas,º andº Silas,º chiefºº menº amongº theº brethren:º

 15:23 and they wrote [thus] by them, The apostles and the elders, brethren, unto the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greeting:

 15:23 And they wroteºº [letters] byº themººº after this manner;º Theº apostlesº andº eldersº andº brethrenº [send] greetingºº unto theº brethrenº whichº are ofº the Gentilesº inº Antiochº andº Syriaº andº Cilicia:º

 15:24 Forasmuch as we have heard that certain who went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls; to whom we gave no commandment;

 15:24 Forasmuch asº we have heard,ºº thatº certainº which went outºº fromº usº have troubledºº youº with words,º subvertingºº yourº souls,º saying,ºº [Ye must] be circumcised,ºº andº keepºº theº law:º to whomº we gaveºº noº [such] commandment:ººº

 15:25 it seemed good unto us, having come to one accord, to choose out men and send them unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

 15:25 It seemed goodºº unto us,º being assembledºº with one accord,º to sendºº chosenºº menº untoº youº withº ourº belovedº Barnabasº andº Paul,º

 15:26 men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

 15:26 Menº that have hazardedºº theirºº livesº forº theº nameº of ourº Lordº Jesusº Christ.º

 15:27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who themselves also shall tell you the same things by word of mouth.

 15:27 We have sentºº thereforeº Judasº andº Silas,º whoº shallºº alsoº tellºº [you] theº same thingsº byº mouth.ºº

 15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:

 15:28 Forº it seemed goodºº to theº Holyº Ghost,º andº to us,º to layº uponºº youº noº greaterº burdenº thanº theseº necessary things;º

 15:29 that ye abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which if ye keep yourselves, it shall be well with you. Fare ye well.

 15:29 That ye abstainºº from meats offered to idols,º andº from blood,º andº from things strangled,º andº from fornication:º fromº whichº if ye keepºº yourselves,º ye shall doºº well.º Fare ye well.ºº

 15:30 So they, when they were dismissed, came down to Antioch; and having gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle.

 15:30 Soºº when theyº wereº dismissed,ºº they cameºº toº Antioch:º andº when they had gatheredºº the multitudeº together,ºººº they deliveredºº theº epistle:º

 15:31 And when they had read it, they rejoiced for the consolation.

 15:31 [Which] whenº they had read,ºº they rejoicedºº forº theº consolation.º

 15:32 And Judas and Silas, being themselves also prophets, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

 15:32 Andº Judasº andº Silas,º beingºº prophetsº alsoº themselves,ºº exhortedºº theº brethrenº withº manyº words,º andº confirmedºº [them].

 15:33 And after they had spent some time [there], they were dismissed in peace from the brethren unto those that had sent them forth.

 15:33 Andº after they had tarriedºº [there] a space,º they were let goºº inº peaceº fromº theº brethrenº untoº theº apostles.º

 15:34 [But it seemed good unto Silas to abide there.]

 15:34 Notwithstandingº it pleasedºº Silasº to abideºº thereº still.ºº

 15:35 But Paul and Barnabas tarried in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

 15:35 Paulº alsoº andº Barnabasº continuedºº inº Antioch,º teachingºº andº preachingºº theº wordº of theº Lord,º withº manyº othersº also.º

 15:36 ¶ And after some days Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us return now and visit the brethren in every city wherein we proclaimed the word of the Lord, [and see] how they fare.

 15:36 ¶ Andº someº daysº afterº Paulºº saidºº untoº Barnabas,ºº Let us go againººº and visitºº ourº brethrenº inº everyº cityº whereºº we have preachedºº theº wordº of theº Lord,º [and see] howº they do.ºº

 15:37 And Barnabas was minded to take with them John also, who was called Mark.

 15:37 Andº Barnabasº determinedºº to take withº themºº John,º whose surname wasºº Mark.º

 15:38 But Paul thought not good to take with them him who withdrew from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.

 15:38 Butº Paulº thoughtºº notº goodººº to takeºº himº withºº them,ºº whoº departedºº fromº themº fromº Pamphylia,º andº wentºº notº withºº themº toº theº work.º

 15:39 And there arose a sharp contention, so that they parted asunder one from the other, and Barnabas took Mark with him, and sailed away unto Cyprus;

 15:39 Andº the contentionºº wasºº so sharpº betweenºº them,º thatº theyº departed asunderºº one from the other:ºº andº soº Barnabasº tookºº Mark,º and sailedºº untoº Cyprus;º

 15:40 but Paul choose Silas, and went forth, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord.

 15:40 Andº Paulº choseºº Silas,º and departed,ºº being recommendedºº byº theº brethrenº unto theº graceº of God.º

 15:41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.

 15:41 Andº he went throughºº Syriaº andº Cilicia,º confirmingºº theº churches.º
