 7:1 ¶ And the high priest said, Are these things so?

 7:1 ¶ Thenº saidºº theº high priest,ººº Areºººº theseº thingsº so?º

 7:2 And he said, Brethren and fathers, hearken: The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran,

 7:2 Andº heº said,ºº Men,º brethren,º andº fathers,º hearken;ºº Theº Godº of gloryº appearedºº unto ourº fatherº Abraham,º when he wasºº inº Mesopotamia,º beforeºº heº dweltºº inº Charran,º

 7:3 and said unto him, Get thee out of thy land, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall show thee.

 7:3 Andº saidºº untoº him,º Getº theeºº out ofº thyº country,º andº fromº thyº kindred,º andº comeºº intoº the landº whichºº I shall shewºº thee.º

 7:4 Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Haran: and from thence, when his father was dead, [God] removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell:

 7:4 Thenº cameº heºº out ofº the landº of the Chaldaeans,º and dweltºº inº Charran:º and from thence,º whenº hisº fatherº was dead,ºº he removedºº himº intoº thisº land,º whereinºº yeº nowº dwell.ºº

 7:5 and he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: and he promised that he would give it to him in possession, and to his seed after him, when [as yet] he had no child.

 7:5 Andº he gaveºº himº noneº inheritanceº inº it,º no,º notº [so much as] to setºº his footº on:ºº yetº he promisedºº that he would giveºº itº to himº forº a possession,º andº to hisº seedº afterº him,º when [as yet] heº hadºº noº child.º

 7:6 And God spake on this wise, that his seed should sojourn in a strange land, and that they should bring them into bondage, and treat them ill, four hundred years.

 7:6 Andº Godº spakeºº on this wise,º Thatº hisº seedº shouldºº sojournº inº a strangeº land;º andº that they should bringºº themº into bondage,ººº andº entreat [them] evilºº four hundredº years.º

 7:7 And the nation to which they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place.

 7:7 Andº theº nationº to whomºº they shallº be in bondageºº willºº Iº judge,ºº saidºº God:º andº afterº thatº shall they come forth,ºº andº serveºº meº inº thisº place.º

 7:8 And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so [Abraham] begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac [begat] Jacob, and Jacob the twelve patriarchs.

 7:8 Andº he gaveºº himº the covenantº of circumcision:º andº soº [Abraham] begatºº Isaac,º andº circumcisedºº himº theº eighthº day;º andº Isaacº [begat] Jacob;º andº Jacobº [begat] theº twelveº patriarchs.º

 7:9 And the patriarchs, moved with jealousy against Joseph, sold him into Egypt: and God was with him,

 7:9 Andº theº patriarchs,º moved with envy,ºº soldºº Josephº intoº Egypt:º butº Godº wasºº withº him,º

 7:10 and delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

 7:10 Andº deliveredºº himº out ofº allº hisº afflictions,º andº gaveºº himº favourº andº wisdomº in the sightº of Pharaohº kingº of Egypt;º andº he madeºº himº governorºº overº Egyptº andº allº hisºº house.º

 7:11 Now there came a famine over all Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.

 7:11 Nowº there cameºº a dearthº overº allº theº landº of Egyptº andº Chanaan,º andº greatº affliction:º andº ourº fathersº foundºº noº sustenance.º

 7:12 But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent forth our fathers the first time.

 7:12 Butº when Jacobº heardºº that there wasºº cornº inº Egypt,º he sent outºº ourº fathersº first.º

 7:13 And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph's race became manifest unto Pharaoh.

 7:13 Andº atº theº secondº [time] Josephº was made knownºº to hisºº brethren;º andº Joseph'sº kindredº was madeºº knownº unto Pharaoh.º

 7:14 And Joseph sent, and called to him Jacob his father, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls.

 7:14 Thenº sentºº Joseph,º and calledºº hisºº fatherº Jacobº to [him], andº allº hisºº kindred,ºº threescoreº and fifteenºº souls.º

 7:15 And Jacob went down into Egypt; and he died, himself and our fathers;

 7:15 Soº Jacobº went downºº intoº Egypt,º andº died,ºº he,º andº ourº fathers,º

 7:16 and they were carried over unto Shechem, and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a price in silver of the sons of Hamor in Shechem.

 7:16 Andº were carried overºº intoº Sychem,º andº laidºº inº theº sepulchreº thatº Abrahamº boughtºº for a sumº of moneyº ofº theº sonsº of Emmorº [the father]º of Sychem.º

 7:17 But as the time of the promise drew nigh which God vouchsafed unto Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,

 7:17 Butº whenº theº timeº of theº promiseº drew nigh,ºº whichº Godº had swornºº to Abraham,º theº peopleº grewºº andº multipliedºº inº Egypt,º

 7:18 till there arose another king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph.

 7:18 Tillºº anotherº kingº arose,ºº whichº knewºº notº Joseph.º

 7:19 The same dealt craftily with our race, and ill-treated our fathers, that they should cast out their babes to the end they might not live.

 7:19 The sameº dealt subtillyºº withº ourº kindred,º and evil entreatedºº ourº fathers,º so thatºº they cast outºº theirº young children,º to the endº they mightºº notº live.ºº

 7:20 At which season Moses was born, and was exceeding fair; and he was nourished three months in his father's house.

 7:20 Inº whichº timeº Mosesº was born,ºº andº wasºº exceedingº fair,º andºº nourished upººº inº hisºº father'sº houseº threeº months:º

 7:21 and when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.

 7:21 Andº when heº was cast out,ºº Pharaoh'sº daughterº tookºº himº up,ººº andº nourishedºº himº forº her ownº son.º

 7:22 And Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians; and he was mighty in his words and works.

 7:22 Andº Mosesº was learnedºº in allº the wisdomº of the Egyptians,º andº wasºº mightyº inº wordsº andº inº deeds.º

 7:23 But when he was well-nigh forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.

 7:23 Andº whenº heº was fullºº fortyº yearsº old,º it cameºº intoº hisº heartº to visitºº hisºº brethrenº theº childrenº of Israel.º

 7:24 And seeing one [of them] suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, smiting the Egyptian:

 7:24 Andº seeingºº oneº [of them] suffer wrong,ºº he defendedºº [him], andº avengedººº him that was oppressed,ºº and smoteºº theº Egyptian:º

 7:25 and he supposed that his brethren understood that God by his hand was giving them deliverance; but they understood not.

 7:25 Forº he supposedºº hisºº brethrenº would have understoodºº howº thatº Godº byº hisº handº would deliverººº them:º butº theyº understoodºº not.º

 7:26 And the day following he appeared unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another?

 7:26 Andº theº nextºº dayº he shewed himselfºº unto themº as they strove,ºº andº would have setºº themº atº one again,ºººº saying,ºº Sirs,º yeº areºº brethren;º whyº do ye wrongºº one to another?º

 7:27 But he that did his neighbor wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?

 7:27 Butº he that didºº his neighbourº wrongººº thrustºº himº away,ººº saying,ºº Whoº madeºº theeº a rulerº andº a judgeº overº us?º

 7:28 Wouldest thou kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian yesterday?

 7:28 Wiltººº thouº killºº me,º asºº thou diddestºººº theº Egyptianº yesterday?º

 7:29 And Moses fled at this saying, and became a sojourner in the land of Midian, where he begat two sons.

 7:29 Thenº fledºº Mosesº atº thisº saying,º andº wasºº a strangerº inº the landº of Madian,º whereº he begatºº twoº sons.º

 7:30 And when forty years were fulfilled, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.

 7:30 Andº when fortyº yearsº were expired,ºº there appearedºº to himº inº theº wildernessº of mountº Sinaº an angelº of the Lordº inº a flameº of fireº in a bush.º

 7:31 And when Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold, there came a voice of the Lord,

 7:31 Whenº Mosesº sawºº [it], he wonderedºº at theº sight:º andº as heº drew nearºº to beholdºº [it], the voiceº of the Lordº cameºº untoº him,º

 7:32 I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob. And Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

 7:32 [Saying], Iº [am] theº Godº of thyº fathers,º theº Godº of Abraham,º andº theº Godº of Isaac,º andº theº Godº of Jacob.º Thenº Mosesº trembled,ººº and durstºº notº behold.ºº

 7:33 And the Lord said unto him, Loose the shoes from thy feet: for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

 7:33 Thenº saidºº theº Lordº to him,º Put offºº thy shoesº from thyº feet:º forº theº placeº whereºº thou standestºº isºº holyº ground.º

 7:34 I have surely seen the affliction of my people that is in Egypt, and have heard their groaning, and I am come down to deliver them: and now come, I will send thee into Egypt.

 7:34 I have seen,ºº I have seenºº theº afflictionº of myº peopleº whichº is inº Egypt,º andº I have heardºº theirº groaning,ºº andº am come downºº to deliverºº them.º Andº nowº come,ºº I will sendºº theeº intoº Egypt.º

 7:35 This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? him hath God sent [to be] both a ruler and a deliverer with the hand of the angel that appeared to him in the bush.

 7:35 Thisº Mosesº whomº they refused,ºº saying,ºº Whoº madeºº theeº a rulerº andº a judge?º the sameº did Godº sendºº [to be] a rulerº andº a delivererº byº the handº of the angelº whichº appearedºº to himº inº theº bush.º

 7:36 This man led them forth, having wrought wonders and signs in Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

 7:36 Heº broughtºº themº out,ººº after that he had shewedºº wondersº andº signsº inº the landº of Egypt,º andº inº the Redº sea,º andº inº theº wildernessº fortyº years.º

 7:37 ¶ This is that Moses, who said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall God raise up unto you from among your brethren, like unto me.

 7:37 ¶ Thisº isºº that Moses,º whichº saidºº unto theº childrenº of Israel,º A prophetº shallºº the Lordº yourº Godº raise upºº unto youº ofº yourº brethren,º likeº untoº me;º himº shall ye hear.ºº

 7:38 This is he that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel that spake to him in the Mount Sinai, and with our fathers: who received living oracles to give unto us:

 7:38 Thisº isº he,ºº that wasºº inº theº churchº inº theº wildernessº withº theº angelº whichº spakeºº to himº inº theº mountº Sina,º andº [with] ourº fathers:º whoº receivedºº the livelyºº oraclesº to giveºº unto us:º

 7:39 to whom our fathers would not be obedient, but thrust him from them, and turned back in their hearts unto Egypt,

 7:39 To whomº ourº fathersº wouldºº notº obey,ººº butº thrust [him] fromº them,ºº andº in theirºº heartsº turned back againºº intoº Egypt,º

 7:40 saying unto Aaron, Make us gods that shall go before us: for as for this Moses, who led us forth out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him.

 7:40 Sayingºº unto Aaron,º Makeºº usº godsº toº go beforeºº us:º forº [as for] thisº Moses,º whichº broughtºº usº out ofº the landº of Egypt,º we wotºº notº whatº is becomeºº of him.º

 7:41 And they made a calf in those days, and brought a sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their hands.

 7:41 Andº they made a calfºº inº thoseº days,º andº offeredºº sacrificeº unto theº idol,º andº rejoicedºº inº theº worksº of their ownºº hands.º

 7:42 But God turned, and gave them up to serve the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, Did ye offer unto me slain beasts and sacrifices Forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?

 7:42 Thenº Godº turned,ºº andº gaveºº themº upººº to worshipºº theº hostº of heaven;º asº itº is writtenºº inº the bookº of theº prophets,º O ye houseº of Israel,º have yeº offeredººº to meº slain beastsº andº sacrificesº [by the space of] fortyº yearsº inº theº wilderness?º

 7:43 And ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, And the star of the god Rephan, The figures which ye made to worship them: And I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

 7:43 Yea,º ye took upºº theº tabernacleº of Moloch,º andº theº starº of yourº godº Remphan,º figuresº whichº ye madeºº to worshipºº them:º andº I will carryºº youº awayººº beyondº Babylon.ºº

 7:44 Our fathers had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, even as he appointed who spake unto Moses, that he should make it according to the figure that he had seen.

 7:44 Ourº fathersº hadºº theº tabernacleº of witnessºº inº theº wilderness,º asº he had appointed,ºº speakingºº unto Moses,º that he should makeºº itº accordingº to theº fashionº thatº he had seen.ºº

 7:45 Which also our fathers, in their turn, brought in with Joshua when they entered on the possession of the nations, that God thrust out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;

 7:45 Whichº alsoº ourº fathersº that cameºº afterº brought inºº withº Jesusº intoº theº possessionº of theº Gentiles,º whomº Godº drave outºº beforeº the faceº of ourº fathers,º untoº theº daysº of David;º

 7:46 who found favor in the sight of God, and asked to find a habitation for the God of Jacob.

 7:46 Whoº foundºº favourº beforeº God,ºº andº desiredºº to findºº a tabernacleº for theº Godº of Jacob.º

 7:47 But Solomon built him a house.

 7:47 Butº Solomonº builtºº himº an house.º

 7:48 Howbeit the Most High dwelleth not in [houses] made with hands; as saith the prophet,

 7:48 Howbeitº theº most Highº dwellethºº notº inº templesº made with hands;º asº saithºº theº prophet,º

 7:49 The heaven is my throne, And the earth the footstool of my feet: What manner of house will ye build me? saith the Lord: Or what is the place of my rest?

 7:49 Heavenº [is] myº throne,º andº earthº [is] myº footstool:ºº whatº houseº will ye buildºº me?º saithºº the Lord:º orº whatº [is] the placeº of myº rest?º

 7:50 Did not my hand make all these things?

 7:50 Hathºº notº myº handº madeºº allº these things?º

 7:51 ¶ Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do ye.

 7:51 ¶ Ye stiffneckedº andº uncircumcisedº in heartº andº ears,º yeº doºº alwaysº resistºº theº Holyº Ghost:º asº yourº fathersº [did], soº [do] ye.º

 7:52 Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and they killed them that showed before of the coming of the Righteous One; of whom ye have now become betrayers and murderers;

 7:52 Whichº of theº prophetsº haveºº notº yourº fathersº persecuted?ºº andº they have slainºº them whichº shewed beforeºº ofº theº comingº of theº Just One;º of whomº yeº have beenºº nowº the betrayersº andº murderers:º

 7:53 ye who received the law as it was ordained by angels, and kept it not.

 7:53 Whoº have receivedºº theº lawº byº the dispositionº of angels,º andº haveºº notº keptºº [it].

 7:54 ¶ Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.

 7:54 ¶ Whenº they heardºº these things,º they were cutºº toº theº heart,ºº andº they gnashedºº onº himº with [their] teeth.ºº

 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

 7:55 Butº he, beingºº fullº of the Holyº Ghost,º looked up stedfastlyºº intoº heaven,º and sawºº the gloryº of God,º andº Jesusº standingºº onº the right handº of God,º

 7:56 and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God.

 7:56 Andº said,ºº Behold,ºº I seeºº theº heavensº opened,ºº andº theº Sonº of manº standingºº onº the right handº of God.º

 7:57 But they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and rushed upon him with one accord;

 7:57 Thenº they cried outºº with a loudº voice,ºº and stoppedºº theirºº ears,º andº ranºº uponº himº with one accord,º

 7:58 and they cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.

 7:58 Andº castºº [him] outº ofº theº city,º and stonedºº [him]: andº theº witnessesº laid downºº theirºº clothesº atº a young man'sº feet,º whose nameº wasºº Saul.º

 7:59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon [the Lord], and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

 7:59 Andº they stonedºº Stephen,º calling uponºº [God], andº saying,ºº Lordº Jesus,º receiveºº myº spirit.º

 7:60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

 7:60 Andº he kneeled down,ººº and criedºº with a loudº voice,º Lord,º layºº notº thisº sinº to theirº charge.º Andº when he had saidºº this,º he fell asleep.ºº
