 24:1 ¶ And after five days the high priest Ananias came down with certain elders, and [with] an orator, one Tertullus; and they informed the governor against Paul.

 24:1 ¶ Andº afterº fiveº daysº Ananiasº theº high priestº descendedºº withº theº elders,º andº [with] a certainº oratorº [named] Tertullus,º whoº informedºº theº governorº againstº Paul.º

 24:2 And when he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy much peace, and that by the providence evils are corrected for this nation,

 24:2 Andº when heº was called forth,ºº Tertullusº beganºº to accuseºº [him], saying,ºº Seeing that byº theeº we enjoyºº greatº quietness,º andº that very worthy deedsº are doneºº unto thisº nationº byº thyº providence,º

 24:3 we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.

 24:3 º We acceptºº [it]º always,º andº in all places,º most nobleº Felix,º withº allº thankfulness.º

 24:4 But, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I entreat thee to hear us of thy clemency a few words.

 24:4 Notwithstanding,º thatººº I beºº notºº furtherº tediousººººº unto thee,º I prayºº theeº that thouº wouldest hearºº usº of thyº clemencyº a few words.º

 24:5 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

 24:5 Forº we have foundºº thisº manº [a] pestilentº [fellow], andº a moverºº of seditionº among allº theº Jewsº throughoutº theº world,º andº a ringleaderº of theº sectº of theº Nazarenes:º

 24:6 who moreover assayed to profane the temple: on whom also we laid hold: [and we would have judged him according to our law.

 24:6 Whoº alsoº hath gone aboutºº to profaneºº theº temple:ºº whomº we took,ºº andº wouldºº have judgedºº accordingº to ourº law.º

 24:7 But the chief captain Lysias came, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,

 24:7 Butº theº chief captainº Lysiasº cameºº [upon us], and withº greatº violenceº took [him] awayºº out ofº ourº hands,º

 24:8 commanding his accusers to come before thee.] from whom thou wilt be able, by examining him thyself, to take knowledge of all these things whereof we accuse him.

 24:8 Commandingºº hisºº accusersº to comeºº untoº thee:º by examiningºº ofº whomº thyselfº mayestºº take knowledgeºº ofº allº these things,º whereofº weº accuseºº him.º

 24:9 And the Jews also joined in the charge, affirming that these things were so.

 24:9 Andº theº Jewsº alsoº assented,ºº sayingºº that these thingsº wereºº so.º

 24:10 And when the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, Paul answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I cheerfully make my defense:

 24:10 Thenº Paul,º after that theº governorº had beckonedºº unto himº to speak,ºº answered,ºº Forasmuch as I knowºº that thouº hast beenºº ofº manyº yearsº a judgeº unto thisº nation,º I doºº the more cheerfullyº answerºº forº myself:º

 24:11 Seeing that thou canst take knowledge that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem:

 24:11 Because that thouº mayestºº understand,ºº thatº there areººº yet butººº twelveº daysºº sinceºº Iº went upºº toº Jerusalemº for to worship.ºº

 24:12 and neither in the temple did they find me disputing with any man or stirring up a crowd, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city.

 24:12 Andº they neitherº foundºº meº inº theº templeº disputingºº withº any man,º neitherº raising upºººº the people,ºº neitherº inº theº synagogues,º norº inº theº city:º

 24:13 Neither can they prove to thee the things whereof they now accuse me.

 24:13 Neitherº canºº they proveººº the thingsº whereofºº theyºº nowº accuseºº me.º

 24:14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the Way which they call a sect, so serve I the God of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law, and which are written in the prophets;

 24:14 Butº thisº I confessºº unto thee,º thatº afterº theº wayº whichº they callºº heresy,º soº worshipº Iºº the Godº of my fathers,º believingºº all thingsº whichº are writtenºº inº theº lawº andº inº theº prophets:º

 24:15 having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there shall be a resurrection both of the just and unjust.

 24:15 And haveºº hopeº towardº God,º whichº theyº themselvesº alsoº allow,ºº that there shallº beºººº a resurrectionº of the dead,º bothº of the justº andº unjust.º

 24:16 Herein I also exercise myself to have a conscience void of offence toward God and men always.

 24:16 Andº hereinºº do I exerciseºº myself,º to haveºº alwaysº a conscienceº void of offenceº towardº God,º andº [toward] men.º

 24:17 Now after some years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings:

 24:17 Nowº afterº manyº yearsº I cameºº to bringºº almsº toº myº nation,º andº offerings.º

 24:18 amidst which they found me purified in the temple, with no crowd, nor yet with tumult: but [there were] certain Jews from Asia --

 24:18 º Whereuponººº certainº Jewsº fromº Asiaº foundºº meº purifiedºº inº theº temple,º neitherº withº multitude,º norº withº tumult.º

 24:19 who ought to have been here before thee, and to make accusation, if they had aught against me.

 24:19 Whoº oughtºººº to have been hereºº beforeº thee,º andº object,ºº ifºº they hadºº oughtºº againstº me.º

 24:20 Or else let these men themselves say what wrong-doing they found when I stood before the council,

 24:20 Orº elseº letºº theseºº sameºº [here] say,ºº ifºº they have foundºº anyºº evil doingº inº me,º while Iº stoodºº beforeº theº council,º

 24:21 except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question before you this day.

 24:21 Exceptº it be forº thisº oneº voice,º thatº I criedºº standingºº amongº them,ºº Touchingºº the resurrectionº of the deadº Iº am called in questionºº byº youº this day.º

 24:22 But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will determine your matter.

 24:22 Andº when Felixº heardºº these things,º having more perfectº knowledgeººº ofº [that] way,º he deferredºº them,º and said,ºº Whenº Lysiasº theº chief captainº shall come down,ºº I will know the uttermostºº of yourº matter.ºº

 24:23 And he gave order to the centurion that he should be kept in charge, and should have indulgence; and not to forbid any of his friends to minister unto him.

 24:23 Andº he commandedºº a centurionº to keepºº Paul,º andº to let [him] haveºº liberty,º andº that he should forbidºº noneº of hisº acquaintanceº to ministerºº orº comeºº untoº him.º

 24:24 But after certain days, Felix came with Drusilla, his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus.

 24:24 Andº afterº certainº days,º when Felixº cameºº withº hisºº wifeº Drusilla,º which wasºº a Jewess,º he sent forºº Paul,º andº heardºº himº concerningº theº faithº inº Christ.º

 24:25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, and self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, Go thy way for this time; and when I have a convenient season, I will call thee unto me.

 24:25 Andº as heº reasonedºº ofº righteousness,ºº temperance,ºº andº judgmentº to come,ºººº Felixº trembled,ººº and answered,ºº Go thy wayºº for this time;ºº whenº I haveºººº a convenient season,º I will call forºº thee.º

 24:26 He hoped withal that money would be given him of Paul: wherefore also he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.

 24:26 Heº hopedºº alsoººº thatº moneyº should have been givenºº himº ofº Paul,º thatº he might looseºº him:º whereforeº heº sent forºº himº the oftener,º andº communedº withºº him.º

 24:27 But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus; and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.

 24:27 Butº afterºº two yearsºº Porciusº Festusº cameºº into Felix'º room:ººº andº Felix,º willingºº to shewºº theº Jewsº a pleasure,º leftºº Paulº bound.ºº
