 16:1 ¶ And he came also to Derbe and to Lystra: and behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewess that believed; but his father was a Greek.

 16:1 ¶ Thenº cameº heºº toº Derbeº andº Lystra:º and,º behold,ºº a certainº discipleº wasºº there,º namedº Timotheus,º the sonº of a certainº woman,º which was a Jewess,º and believed;º butº his fatherºº [was] a Greek:º

 16:2 The same was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

 16:2 Whichº was well reportedºº ofº byº theº brethrenº that were atº Lystraº andº Iconium.º

 16:3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and he took and circumcised him because of the Jews that were in those parts: for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

 16:3 Himº wouldºº Paulº have to go forthºº withº him;º andº tookºº and circumcisedºº himº becauseº ofº theº Jewsº whichº wereºº inº thoseº quarters:º forº they knewºº allº thatº hisºº fatherº wasºº a Greek.º

 16:4 And as they went on their way through the cities, they delivered them the decrees to keep which had been ordained of the apostles and elders that were at Jerusalem.

 16:4 Andº asº they went throughºº theº cities,º they deliveredºº themº theº decreesº for to keep,ºº that were ordainedºº ofº theº apostlesº andº eldersº whichº were atº Jerusalem.º

 16:5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.

 16:5 Andº soºº wereºº theº churchesº establishedºº in theº faith,º andº increasedºº in numberº daily.ºº

 16:6 And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden of the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia;

 16:6 Nowº when they had gone throughoutºº Phrygiaº andº theº regionº of Galatia,º and were forbiddenºº ofº theº Holyº Ghostº to preachºº theº wordº inº Asia,º

 16:7 and when they were come over against Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia; and the Spirit of Jesus suffered them not;

 16:7 After they were comeºº toº Mysia,º they assayedºº to goºº intoº Bithynia:º butº theº Spiritº sufferedºº themº not.º

 16:8 and passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas.

 16:8 Andº they passing byºº Mysiaº came downºº toº Troas.º

 16:9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: There was a man of Macedonia standing, beseeching him, and saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

 16:9 Andº a visionº appearedºº to Paulº inº theº night;º There stoodºººº a manºº of Macedonia,º andº prayedºº him,ºº saying,ºº Come overºº intoº Macedonia,º and helpºº us.º

 16:10 And when he had seen the vision, straightway we sought to go forth into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

 16:10 Andº afterº he had seenºº theº vision,º immediatelyº we endeavouredºº to goºº intoº Macedonia,º assuredly gatheringºº thatº theº Lordº had calledºº usº for to preach the gospelºº unto them.º

 16:11 Setting sail therefore from Troas, we made a straight course to Samothrace, and the day following to Neapolis;

 16:11 Thereforeº loosingºº fromº Troas,º we came with a straight courseºº toº Samothracia,º andº theº nextºº [day] toº Neapolis;º

 16:12 and from thence to Philippi, which is a city of Macedonia, the first of the district, a [Roman] colony: and we were in this city tarrying certain days.

 16:12 Andº from thenceº toº Philippi,º whichº isºº the chiefº cityº of that partº of Macedonia,º [and] a colony:º andº we wereºº inº thatº cityº abidingºº certainº days.º

 16:13 And on the sabbath day we went forth without the gate by a river side, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down, and spake unto the women that were come together.

 16:13 Andº onº theº sabbathºº we wentºº outº ofº theº cityº byº a river side,º whereº prayerº was wontºº to be made;ºº andº we sat down,ºº and spakeºº unto theº womenº which resortedºº [thither].

 16:14 ¶ And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple of the city of Thyatira, one that worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened to give heed unto the things which were spoken by Paul.

 16:14 ¶ Andº a certainº womanº namedº Lydia,º a seller of purple,º of the cityº of Thyatira,º which worshippedºº God,º heardºº [us]: whoseº heartº theº Lordº opened,ºº that she attendedºº unto the things which were spokenºº ofº Paul.º

 16:15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide [there]. And she constrained us.

 16:15 Andº whenº she was baptized,ºº andº herºº household,º she besoughtºº [us], saying,ºº Ifº ye have judgedºº meº to beºº faithfulº to theº Lord,º comeºº intoº myº house,º and abideºº [there]. Andº she constrainedºº us.º

 16:16 ¶ And it came to pass, as we were going to the place of prayer, that a certain maid having a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by soothsaying.

 16:16 ¶ Andº it came to pass,ºº as weº wentºº toº prayer,º a certainº damselº possessedºº with a spiritº of divinationº metºº us,º whichº broughtºº herºº mastersº muchº gainº by soothsaying:ºº

 16:17 The same following after Paul and us cried out, saying, These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim unto you the way of salvation.

 16:17 The sameº followedºº Paulº andº us,º and cried,ºº saying,ºº Theseº menº areºº the servantsº of theº most highº God,º whichº shewºº unto usº the wayº of salvation.º

 16:18 And this she did for many days. But Paul, being sore troubled, turned and said to the spirit, I charge thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it came out that very hour.

 16:18 Andº thisº didº sheººº manyº days.º Butº Paul,º being grieved,ºº turnedºº andº saidºº to theº spirit,º I commandºº theeº inº theº nameº of Jesusº Christº to comeºº out ofº her.º Andº he came outºº theº sameº hour.º

 16:19 ¶ But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they laid hold on Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers,

 16:19 ¶ Andº when herºº mastersº sawºº thatº theº hopeº of theirºº gainsº was gone,ºº they caughtºº Paulº andº Silas,º and drewºº [them] intoº theº marketplaceº untoº theº rulers,º

 16:20 and when they had brought them unto the magistrates, they said, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,

 16:20 Andº broughtºº themº to theº magistrates,º saying,ºº Theseº men,º beingºº Jews,º do exceedingly troubleºº ourº city,º

 16:21 and set forth customs which it is not lawful for us to receive, or to observe, being Romans.

 16:21 Andº teachºº customs,º whichº areºº notº lawfulººº for usº to receive,ºº neitherº to observe,ºº beingºº Romans.º

 16:22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent their garments off them, and commanded to beat them with rods.

 16:22 Andº theº multitudeº rose up togetherºº againstº them:º andº theº magistratesº rent offºº theirº clothes,º and commandedºº to beatºº [them].

 16:23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

 16:23 Andº when they had laidºº manyº stripesº upon them,º they castºº [them] intoº prison,º chargingºº theº jailorº to keepºº themº safely:º

 16:24 who, having received such a charge, cast them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

 16:24 Who,º having receivedºº suchº a charge,º thrustºº themº intoº theº innerº prison,º andº madeºº theirº feetº fastºººº inº theº stocks.º

 16:25 ¶ But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns unto God, and the prisoners were listening to them;

 16:25 ¶ Andº atº midnightº Paulº andº Silasº prayed,ºº andº sang praisesºº unto God:º andº theº prisonersº heardºº them.º

 16:26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison-house were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

 16:26 Andº suddenlyº there wasºº a greatº earthquake,º so thatº theº foundationsº of theº prisonº were shaken:ºº andº immediatelyº allº theº doorsº were opened,ºº andº every one'sº bandsºº were loosed.ºº

 16:27 And the jailor, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.

 16:27 Andº theº keeper of the prisonº awakingºº out of his sleep,ºº andº seeingºº theº prisonº doorsº open,ºº he drew outºº his sword,º and wouldºº have killedºº himself,º supposingºº that theº prisonersº had been fled.ºº

 16:28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

 16:28 Butº Paulº criedºº with a loudº voice,º saying,ºº Doºº thyselfº noº harm:º forº we areºº allº here.º

 16:29 And he called for lights and sprang in, and, trembling for fear, fell down before Paul and Silas,

 16:29 Thenº he calledºº for a light,º and sprang in,ºº andº cameºº trembling,º and fell down beforeºº Paulº andº Silas,º

 16:30 and brought them out and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

 16:30 Andº broughtºº themº out,º and said,ºº Sirs,º whatº mustºº Iº doºº toº be saved?ºº

 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.

 16:31 Andº theyº said,ºº Believeºº onº theº Lordº Jesusº Christ,º andº thouº shalt be saved,ºº andº thyº house.º

 16:32 And they spake the word of the Lord unto him, with all that were in his house.

 16:32 Andº they spakeºº unto himº theº wordº of theº Lord,º andº to allº thatº were inº hisºº house.º

 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, immediately.

 16:33 Andº he tookºº themºº theº sameº hourº of theº night,º and washedºº [their]º stripes;ºº andº was baptized,ºº heº andº allº his,º straightway.º

 16:34 And he brought them up into his house, and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, with all his house, having believed in God.

 16:34 Andº when he had broughtºº themº intoº hisº house,º he setºº meatº beforeºº them,ºº andº rejoiced,ºº believingºº in Godº with allºº hisº house.º

 16:35 But when it was day, the magistrates sent the sergeants, saying, Let those men go.

 16:35 Andº when it wasºº day,º theº magistratesº sentºº theº serjeants,º saying,ºº Letºº thoseº menº go.ºººº

 16:36 And the jailor reported the words to Paul, [saying], The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore come forth, and go in peace.

 16:36 Andº theº keeper of the prisonº toldºº thisº sayingº toº Paul,ºº Theº magistratesº have sentºº toº let you go:ºº nowº thereforeº depart,ººº and goººº inº peace.º

 16:37 But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men that are Romans, and have cast us into prison; and do they now cast us out privily? Nay verily; but let them come themselves and bring us out.

 16:37 Butº Paulº saidºº untoº them,º They have beatenºº usº openlyº uncondemned,º beingºº Romans,ºº andº have castºº [us] intoº prison;º andº nowº do they thrustºº usº outººº privily?º nayº verily;º butº let them comeºº themselvesºº and fetchºº usº out.ººº

 16:38 And the sergeants reported these words unto the magistrates: and they feared when they heard that they were Romans;

 16:38 Andº theº serjeantsº toldºº theseº wordsº unto theº magistrates:º andº they feared,ºº when they heardºº thatº they wereºº Romans.º

 16:39 and they came and besought them; and when they had brought them out, they asked them to go away from the city.

 16:39 Andº they cameºº and besoughtºº them,º andº brought [them] out,ºº and desiredºº [them] to depart outºº of theº city.º

 16:40 And they went out of the prison, and entered into [the house] of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

 16:40 Andº they wentºº out ofº theº prison,º and enteredºº intoº [the house of] Lydia:º andº when they had seenºº theº brethren,º they comfortedºº them,º andº departed.ºº
