 15:1 ¶ Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° also said°° unto° Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל,° Yähwè יָהוֶה° sent°° me to anoint°° thee [to be] king° over° his people,° over° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:° now° therefore hearken°° thou unto the voice° of the words° of Yähwè יָהוֶה.°

 15:1 ¶ Shemuel also said unto Shaul, Yahweh sent me to anoint thee [to be] king over his people, over Yisrael: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of Yahweh.

 15:2 Thus° saith°° Yähwè יָהוֶה° Xævä´ôŧ צְבָאוֹת,° I remember°° [that]° which° `Ámälëk עֲמָלֵק° did°° to Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,° how° he laid°° [wait] for him in the way,° when he came up°° from Mixrayim מִצרַיִם.°°

 15:2 Thus saith Yahweh Tzevaoth, I remember [that] which Amaleq did to Yisrael, how he laid [wait] for him in the way, when he came up from Mitzrayim.

 15:3 Now° go°°° and smite°°° `Ámälëk עֲמָלֵק,° and utterly destroy°°° all° that° they have, and spare°°° them not;° but slay°° both man°° and° woman,° infant°° and suckling,°° ox°° and sheep,° camel°° and ass.°

 15:3 Now go and smite Amaleq, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

 15:4 And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° gathered°° the people° together,°°°° and numbered°° them in Ţælä´îm טְלָאִים,° two hundred° thousand° footmen,° and ten° thousand°° men° of Yæhûđà יְהוּדָה.°

 15:4 And Shaul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Yehudah.

 15:5 And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° came°° to° a city° of `Ámälëk עֲמָלֵק,° and laid wait°°°° in the valley.°

 15:5 And Shaul came to a city of Amaleq, and laid wait in the valley.

 15:6 ¶ And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° said°° unto° the Kênîm קֵינִים,° Go,°°° depart,°° get you down°° from among°° the `Ámälëkîm עֲמָלֵקִים,° lest° I destroy°° you with° them: for ye° shewed°° kindness° to° all° the children° of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,° when they came up°° out of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם.°° So the Kênîm קֵינִים° departed°° from among°° the `Ámälëkîm עֲמָלֵקִים.°

 15:6 ¶ And Shaul said unto the Qenim, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amaleqim, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Yisrael, when they came up out of Mitzrayim. So the Qenim departed from among the Amaleqim.

 15:7 And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° smote°°° the `Ámälëkîm עֲמָלֵקִים° from Çáwîlà חֲוִילָה°° [until] thou comest°° to Šûr שׁוּר,° that° [is] over° against° Mixrayim מִצרַיִם.°

 15:7 And Shaul smote the Amaleqim from Chawilah [until] thou comest to Shur, that [is] over against Mitzrayim.

 15:8 And he took°°° ´Áqäq אֲגָג° the king° of the `Ámälëkîm עֲמָלֵקִים° alive,° and utterly destroyed°° all° the people° with the edge° of the sword.°

 15:8 And he took Agag the king of the Amaleqim alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

 15:9 But Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° and the people° spared°°° ´Áqäq אֲגָג,° and the best° of the sheep,° and of the oxen,° and of the fatlings,° and the lambs,° and all° [that was] good,° and would°° not° utterly destroy°° them: but every° thing° [that was] vile° and refuse,°° that they destroyed utterly.°°

 15:9 But Shaul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all [that was] good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing [that was] vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

 15:10 ¶ Then came° the word° of Yähwè יָהוֶה° unto° Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל,° saying,°°

 15:10 ¶ Then came the word of Yahweh unto Shemuel, saying,

 15:11 It repenteth°° me° that° I have set up°°° Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° [to be] king:° for° he is turned back°° from following°° me, and hath not° performed°° my commandments.° And it grieved°° Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל;° and he cried°° unto° Yähwè יָהוֶה° all° night.°

 15:11 It repenteth me that I have set up Shaul [to be] king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Shemuel; and he cried unto Yahweh all night.

 15:12 And when Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° rose early°° to meet°° Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° in the morning,° it was told°° Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל,° saying,°° Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° came°° to Carmel כַּרמֶל,° and, behold,° he set him up°° a place,° and is gone about,°° and passed on,°° and gone down°° to Gilgäl גִּלגָּל.°

 15:12 And when Shemuel rose early to meet Shaul in the morning, it was told Shemuel, saying, Shaul came to Karmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.

 15:13 And Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° came°° to° Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל:° and Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° said°° unto him, Blessed°° [be] thou° of Yähwè יָהוֶה:° I have performed°°° the commandment° of Yähwè יָהוֶה.°

 15:13 And Shemuel came to Shaul: and Shaul said unto him, Blessed [be] thou of Yahweh: I have performed the commandment of Yahweh.

 15:14 And Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° said,°° What° [meaneth] then this° bleating° of the sheep° in mine ears,° and the lowing° of the oxen° which° I° hear?°°

 15:14 And Shemuel said, What [meaneth] then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?

 15:15 And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° said,°° They have brought°° them from the `Ámälëkîm עֲמָלֵקִים:°° for° the people° spared°°° the best° of the sheep° and of the oxen,° to sacrifice°°° unto Yähwè יָהוֶה° thy ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים;° and the rest°° we have utterly destroyed.°°

 15:15 And Shaul said, They have brought them from the Amaleqim: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto Yahweh thy Elohim; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.

 15:16 Then Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° said°° unto° Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל,° Stay,°° and I will tell°° thee° what° Yähwè יָהוֶה° hath said°° to° me this night.° And he said°° unto him, Say on.°°

 15:16 Then Shemuel said unto Shaul, Stay, and I will tell thee what Yahweh hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.

 15:17 And Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° said,°° When° thou° [wast] little° in thine own sight,° [wast] thou° not° [made] the head° of the tribes° of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,° and Yähwè יָהוֶה° anointed°° thee king° over° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל?°

 15:17 And Shemuel said, When thou [wast] little in thine own sight, [wast] thou not [made] the head of the tribes of Yisrael, and Yahweh anointed thee king over Yisrael?

 15:18 And Yähwè יָהוֶה° sent°° thee on a journey,° and said,°° Go°°° and utterly destroy°°° the sinners°° the `Ámälëkîm עֲמָלֵקִים,° and fight°° against them until° they be consumed.°°

 15:18 And Yahweh sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amaleqim, and fight against them until they be consumed.

 15:19 Wherefore° then didst thou not° obey°° the voice° of Yähwè יָהוֶה,° but didst fly°° upon° the spoil,° and didst°° evil° in the sight° of Yähwè יָהוֶה?°

 15:19 Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of Yahweh, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of Yahweh?

 15:20 And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° said°° unto° Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל,° Yea,° I have obeyed°° the voice° of Yähwè יָהוֶה,° and have gone°°° the way° which° Yähwè יָהוֶה° sent°° me, and have brought°°° ´Áqäq אֲגָג° the king° of `Ámälëk עֲמָלֵק,° and have utterly destroyed°° the `Ámälëkîm עֲמָלֵקִים.°

 15:20 And Shaul said unto Shemuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of Yahweh, and have gone the way which Yahweh sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amaleq, and have utterly destroyed the Amaleqim.

 15:21 But the people° took°° of the spoil,°° sheep° and oxen,° the chief° of the things which should have been utterly destroyed,° to sacrifice°° unto Yähwè יָהוֶה° thy ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים° in Gilgäl גִּלגָּל.°

 15:21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto Yahweh thy Elohim in Gilgal.

 15:22 And Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° said,°° Hath Yähwè יָהוֶה° [as great] delight° in burnt offerings° and sacrifices,° as in obeying°° the voice° of Yähwè יָהוֶה?° Behold,° to obey°° [is] better° than sacrifice,°° [and] to hearken°° than the fat°° of rams.°

 15:22 And Shemuel said, Hath Yahweh [as great] delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Yahweh? Behold, to obey [is] better than sacrifice, [and] to hearken than the fat of rams.

 15:23 For° rebellion° [is as] the sin° of witchcraft,° and stubbornness°° [is as] iniquity° and idolatry.° Because° thou hast rejected°°° the word° of Yähwè יָהוֶה,° he hath also rejected°° thee from [being] king.°°

 15:23 For rebellion [is as] the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness [is as] iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of Yahweh, he hath also rejected thee from [being] king.

 15:24 ¶ And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° said°° unto° Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל,° I have sinned:°° for° I have transgressed°°° the commandment° of Yähwè יָהוֶה,° and thy words:° because° I feared°°° the people,° and obeyed°° their voice.°

 15:24 ¶ And Shaul said unto Shemuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of Yahweh, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

 15:25 Now° therefore, I pray thee,° pardon°°° my sin,° and turn again°° with° me, that I may worship°° Yähwè יָהוֶה.°

 15:25 Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship Yahweh.

 15:26 And Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° said°° unto° Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל,° I will not° return°° with° thee: for° thou hast rejected°°° the word° of Yähwè יָהוֶה,° and Yähwè יָהוֶה° hath rejected°° thee from being°° king° over° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.°

 15:26 And Shemuel said unto Shaul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of Yahweh, and Yahweh hath rejected thee from being king over Yisrael.

 15:27 And as Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° turned about°° to go away,°°° he laid hold°° upon the skirt° of his mantle,° and it rent.°°

 15:27 And as Shemuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.

 15:28 And Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° said°° unto° him, Yähwè יָהוֶה° hath rent°°° the kingdom° of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל° from°° thee this day,° and hath given°° it to a neighbour° of thine, [that is] better° than° thou.

 15:28 And Shemuel said unto him, Yahweh hath rent the kingdom of Yisrael from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, [that is] better than thou.

 15:29 And also° the Strength° of Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל° will not° lie°° nor° repent:°° for° he [is] not° a man,° that he° should repent.°°

 15:29 And also the Strength of Yisrael will not lie nor repent: for he [is] not a man, that he should repent.

 15:30 Then he said,°° I have sinned:°° [yet] honour°° me now,° I pray thee,° before° the elders° of my people,° and before° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,° and turn again°° with° me, that I may worship°° Yähwè יָהוֶה° thy ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים.°

 15:30 Then he said, I have sinned: [yet] honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Yisrael, and turn again with me, that I may worship Yahweh thy Elohim.

 15:31 So Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° turned again°° after° Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל;° and Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° worshipped°° Yähwè יָהוֶה.°

 15:31 So Shemuel turned again after Shaul; and Shaul worshipped Yahweh.

 15:32 ¶ Then said°° Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל,° Bring ye hither°° to° me° ´Áqäq אֲגָג° the king° of the `Ámälëkîm עֲמָלֵקִים.° And ´Áqäq אֲגָג° came°°° unto° him delicately.° And ´Áqäq אֲגָג° said,°° Surely° the bitterness° of death° is past.°°

 15:32 ¶ Then said Shemuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amaleqim. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.

 15:33 And Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° said,°° As° thy sword° hath made women° childless,°° so° shall thy mother° be childless°° among women.°° And Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° hewed°° ´Áqäq אֲגָג° in pieces°°°° before° Yähwè יָהוֶה° in Gilgäl גִּלגָּל.°

 15:33 And Shemuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Shemuel hewed Agag in pieces before Yahweh in Gilgal.

 15:34 ¶ Then Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° went°°° to Rämà רָמָה;° and Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° went up°° to° his house° to Giv`à גִּבעָה° of Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל.°

 15:34 ¶ Then Shemuel went to Ramah; and Shaul went up to his house to Givah of Shaul.

 15:35 And Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° came no° more°° to see°°° Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° until° the day° of his death:° nevertheless° Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵל° mourned°° for° Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל:° and Yähwè יָהוֶה° repented°° that° he had made Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° king°°°° over° Yiŝrä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.°

 15:35 And Shemuel came no more to see Shaul until the day of his death: nevertheless Shemuel mourned for Shaul: and Yahweh repented that he had made Shaul king over Yisrael.
