from beforeºº

Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים,º
and fell downºº
slainº
in mountº
Gilböå`
גִּלבֹּעַ.º |

31:1 ¶
Now the Pelishtim fought against Yisrael: and the men of Yisrael fled from before the Pelishtim, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. |

And the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
followed hardºº
uponºº
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּלº
and upon his sons;º
and the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
slewººº
Yæhônä±än
יְהוֹנָתָן,º
and
´Ávînäðäv
אֲבִינָדָב,º
and
Malcî Šûå`
מַלכִּי־שׁוּעַ,º
Šä´ûl's
שָׁאוּלº
sons.º |

31:2
And the Pelishtim followed hard upon Shaul and upon his sons; and the Pelishtim slew Yehonathan, and Avinadav, and Malki-Shua, Shaul's sons. |
|
31:3
And the battleº
went soreºº
againstº
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל,º
and the archersººººº
hitºº
him; and he was soreº
woundedºº
of the archers.ººººº |

And the battle went sore against Shaul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers. |

31:4
Then saidºº
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּלº
unto his armourbearer,ººº
Drawºº
thy sword,º
and thrust me throughºº
therewith; lestº
theseº
uncircumcisedº
comeºº
and thrust me through,ºº
and abuseºº
me. But his armourbearerººº
wouldºº
not;º
forº
he was soreº
afraid.ºº
Therefore
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּלº
tookººº
a sword,º
and fellºº
uponº
it. |

31:4
Then said Shaul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Shaul took a sword, and fell upon it. |

And when his armourbearerººº
sawºº
thatº
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּלº
was dead,ºº
heº
fellºº
likewiseº
uponº
his sword,º
and diedºº
withº
him. |

And when his armourbearer saw that Shaul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him. |

died,ºº
and his threeº
sons,º
and his armourbearer,ººº
andº
allº
his men,ºº
that sameº
dayº
together.º |

So Shaul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together. |

31:7 ¶
And when the menºº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
thatº
[were] on the other sideº
of the valley,º
and [they] thatº
[were] on the other sideº
Yardën
יַרדֵּן,º
sawºº
thatº
the menºº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
fled,ºº
and thatº
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּלº
and his sonsº
were dead,ºº
they forsookººº
the cities,º
and fled;ºº
and the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
cameºº
and dweltºº
in them.º |

31:7 ¶
And when the men of Yisrael that [were] on the other side of the valley, and [they] that [were] on the other side Yarden, saw that the men of Yisrael fled, and that Shaul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Pelishtim came and dwelt in them. |

And it came to passº
on the morrow,ºº
when the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
cameºº
to stripººº
the slain,º
that they foundººº
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּלº
and his threeº
sonsº
fallenºº
in mountº
Gilböå`
גִּלבֹּעַ.º |

31:8
And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Pelishtim came to strip the slain, that they found Shaul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa. |
|
31:9
And they cut offººº
his head,º
and stripped offººº
his armour,º
and sentºº
into the landº
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
round about,º
to publishºº
[it in] the houseº
of their idols,º
and amongº
the people.º |

31:9
And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Pelishtim round about, to publish [it in] the house of their idols, and among the people. |
|
31:10
And they putººº
his armourº
in the houseº
of
`Aštärô±
עַשׁתָּרוֹת:ººº
and they fastenedºº
his bodyº
to the wallº
of
Bê± Šän
בֵּית־שָׁן.º |
|
31:10
And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-Shan. |

31:11 ¶
And when the inhabitantsºº
of
Yävêš Gil`äð
יָבֵישׁ־גִּלעָדºº
heardºººº
of that whichº
the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
had doneºº
to
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל;º |

31:11 ¶
And when the inhabitants of Yavesh-Gilad heard of that which the Pelishtim had done to Shaul; |
|
31:12
Allº
the valiantº
menººº
arose,ºº
and wentººº
allº
night,º
and tookººº
the bodyº
of
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּלº
and the bodiesº
of his sonsº
from the wallºº
of
Bê± Šän
בֵּית־שָׁן,º
and cameºº
to
Yävêš
יָבֵישׁ,º
and burntºº
them there.º |

31:12
All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Shaul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-Shan, and came to Yavesh, and burnt them there. |
|
31:13
And they tookººº
their bones,º
and buriedºº
[them] underº
a treeº
at
Yävêš
יָבֵישׁ,º
and fastedºº
sevenº
days.º |
|
31:13
And they took their bones, and buried [them] under a tree at Yavesh, and fasted seven days. |
