 30:1 ¶
And it came to pass,º
when
Däwið
דָּוִדº
and his menºº
were comeºº
to
Xîklaq
צִיקלַגº
on the thirdº
day,º
that the
`Ámälëkîm
עֲמָלֵקִיםº
had invadedººº
the south,º
and
Xîklaq
צִיקלַג,º
and smittenººº
Xîklaq
צִיקלַג,º
and burnedºº
it with fire;º |
|
 30:1 ¶
And it came to pass, when Dawid and his men were come to Tziqlag on the third day, that the Amaleqim had invaded the south, and Tziqlag, and smitten Tziqlag, and burned it with fire; |
 30:2
And had taken the womenº
captives,ºººº
thatº
[were] therein: they slewºº
notº
any,º
eitherº
greatº
or small,ºº
but carried [them] away,ºº
and wentººº
on their way.º |
|
 30:2
And had taken the women captives, that [were] therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried [them] away, and went on their way. |
 30:3 ¶
So
Däwið
דָּוִדº
and his menºº
cameºº
toº
the city,º
and, behold,º
[it was] burnedºº
with fire;º
and their wives,º
and their sons,º
and their daughters,º
were taken captives.ºº |
|
 30:3 ¶
So Dawid and his men came to the city, and, behold, [it was] burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives. |
 30:4
Then
Däwið
דָּוִדº
and the peopleº
thatº
[were] withº
him lifted upººº
their voiceº
and wept,ºº
untilºº
they had no moreº
powerº
to weep.ºº |
|
 30:4
Then Dawid and the people that [were] with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep. |
 30:5
And
Däwið's
דָּוִדº
twoº
wivesº
were taken captives,ºº
´Áçînö`am
אֲחִינֹעַםº
the
Yizræ`ë´lî±
יִזרְעֵאלִית,º
and
´Áviqäyil
אֲבִגָיִלº
the wifeº
of
Näväl
נָבָלº
the
Carmælî
כַּרמְלִי.º |
|
 30:5
And Dawid's two wives were taken captives, Achinoam the Yizreelith, and Avigayil the wife of Naval the Karmeli. |
 30:6
And
Däwið
דָּוִדº
was greatlyº
distressed;ºº
forº
the peopleº
spakeºº
of stoningºº
him, becauseº
the soulº
of allº
the peopleº
was grieved,ºº
every manº
forº
his sonsº
and forº
his daughters:º
but
Däwið
דָּוִדº
encouragedºº
himselfº
in
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
his
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים.º |
|
 30:6
And Dawid was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but Dawid encouraged himself in Yahweh his Elohim. |
 30:7
And
Däwið
דָּוִדº
saidºº
toº
´Evyä±är
אֶביָתָרº
the priest,º
´Áçîmele¢'s
אֲחִימֶלֶךº
son,º
I pray thee,º
bring me hitherºº
the ephod.º
And
´Evyä±är
אֶביָתָרº
broughtºº
thitherº
the ephodº
toº
Däwið
דָּוִד.º |
|
 30:7
And Dawid said to Evyathar the priest, Achimelekh's son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Evyathar brought thither the ephod to Dawid. |
 30:8
And
Däwið
דָּוִדº
enquiredºº
at
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
saying,ºº
Shall I pursueºº
afterº
thisº
troop?º
shall I overtakeºº
them? And he answeredºº
him, Pursue:ºº
forº
thou shalt surelyºº
overtakeºº
[them], and without failºº
recoverºº
[all]. |
|
 30:8
And Dawid enquired at Yahweh, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake [them], and without fail recover [all]. |
 30:9
So
Däwið
דָּוִדº
went,ººº
heº
and the sixº
hundredº
menº
thatº
[were] withº
him, and cameºº
toº
the brookº
Bæ$ôr
בְּשׂוֹר,º
where those that were left behindºº
stayed.ºº |
|
 30:9
So Dawid went, he and the six hundred men that [were] with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed. |
 30:10
But
Däwið
דָּוִדº
pursued,ºº
heº
and fourº
hundredº
men:º
for two hundredºº
abode behind,ºº
whichº
were so faintºº
that they could not go overºººº
the brookº
Bæ$ôr
בְּשׂוֹר.º |
|
 30:10
But Dawid pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor. |
 30:11 ¶
And they foundºº
a
Mixrî
מִצרִיºº
in the field,º
and broughtºº
him toº
Däwið
דָּוִד,º
and gaveºº
him bread,º
and he did eat;ºº
and they made him drinkºº
water;º |
|
 30:11 ¶
And they found a Mitzri in the field, and brought him to Dawid, and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water; |
 30:12
And they gaveºº
him a pieceº
of a cakeº
of figs,º
and twoº
clusters of raisins:º
and when he had eaten,ºº
his spiritº
came againºº
toº
him: forº
he had eatenºº
noº
bread,º
norº
drunkºº
[any] water,º
threeº
daysº
and threeº
nights.º |
|
 30:12
And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk [any] water, three days and three nights. |
 30:13
And
Däwið
דָּוִדº
saidºº
unto him, To whomº
[belongest] thou?º
and whenceººº
[art] thou?º
And he said,ºº
Iº
[am] a young manº
of
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִם,º
servantº
to an
`Ámälëkî
עֲמָלֵקִי;ºº
and my
´áðôn
אֲדוֹןº
leftºº
me, becauseº
threeº
daysº
agone I fell sick.ºº |
|
 30:13
And Dawid said unto him, To whom [belongest] thou? and whence [art] thou? And he said, I [am] a young man of Mitzrayim, servant to an Amaleqi; and my adon left me, because three days agone I fell sick. |
 30:14
Weº
made an invasionºº
[upon] the southº
of the
Cærë±îm
כְּרֵתִים,º
and uponº
[the coast] whichº
[belongeth] to
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָה,º
and uponº
the southº
of
Cälëv
כָּלֵב;º
and we burnedºº
Xîklaq
צִיקלַגº
with fire.º |
|
 30:14
We made an invasion [upon] the south of the Kerethim, and upon [the coast] which [belongeth] to Yehudah, and upon the south of Kalev; and we burned Tziqlag with fire. |
 30:15
And
Däwið
דָּוִדº
saidºº
toº
him, Canst thou bring me downºº
toº
thisº
company?º
And he said,ºº
Swearºº
unto me by
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
that thou wilt neitherº
killºº
me, norº
deliverºº
me into the handsº
of my
´áðôn
אֲדוֹן,º
and I will bring thee downºº
toº
thisº
company.º |
|
 30:15
And Dawid said to him, Canst thou bring me down to this company? And he said, Swear unto me by Elohim, that thou wilt neither kill me, nor deliver me into the hands of my adon, and I will bring thee down to this company. |
 30:16 ¶
And when he had brought him down,ºº
behold,º
[they were] spread abroadºº
uponºº
allºº
the earth,º
eatingºº
and drinking,ºº
and dancing,ºº
because of allº
the greatº
spoilº
thatº
they had takenºº
out of the landºº
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים,º
and out of the landºº
of
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָה.º |
|
 30:16 ¶
And when he had brought him down, behold, [they were] spread abroad upon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Pelishtim, and out of the land of Yehudah. |
 30:17
And
Däwið
דָּוִדº
smoteºº
them from the twilightºº
even untoº
the eveningº
of the next day:º
and there escapedºº
notº
a manº
of them, saveºº
fourº
hundredº
youngº
men,º
whichº
rodeºº
uponº
camels,º
and fled.ºº |
|
 30:17
And Dawid smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men, which rode upon camels, and fled. |
 30:18
And
Däwið
דָּוִדº
recoveredººº
allº
thatº
the
`Ámälëkîm
עֲמָלֵקִיםº
had carried away:ºº
and
Däwið
דָּוִדº
rescuedºº
his twoº
wives.º |
|
 30:18
And Dawid recovered all that the Amaleqim had carried away: and Dawid rescued his two wives. |
 30:19
And there was nothingº
lackingºº
to them, neitherº
smallº
norº
great,º
neitherº
sonsº
nor daughters,º
neither spoil,ºº
norº
anyº
[thing] thatº
they had takenºº
to them:
Däwið
דָּוִדº
recoveredºº
all.º |
|
 30:19
And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any [thing] that they had taken to them: Dawid recovered all. |
 30:20
And
Däwið
דָּוִדº
tookººº
allº
the flocksº
and the herds,º
[which] they draveºº
beforeº
thoseº
[other] cattle,º
and said,ºº
Thisº
[is]
Däwið's
דָּוִדº
spoil.º |
|
 30:20
And Dawid took all the flocks and the herds, [which] they drave before those [other] cattle, and said, This [is] Dawid's spoil. |
 30:21 ¶
And
Däwið
דָּוִדº
cameºº
toº
the two hundredº
men,ºº
whichº
were so faintºº
that they could not followºººº
Däwið
דָּוִד,º
whom they had made also to abideºº
at the brookº
Bæ$ôr
בְּשׂוֹר:º
and they went forthºº
to meetºº
Däwið
דָּוִד,º
and to meetºº
the peopleº
thatº
[were] withº
him: and when
Däwið
דָּוִדº
came nearºº
toº
the people,º
he salutedººº
them. |
|
 30:21 ¶
And Dawid came to the two hundred men, which were so faint that they could not follow Dawid, whom they had made also to abide at the brook Besor: and they went forth to meet Dawid, and to meet the people that [were] with him: and when Dawid came near to the people, he saluted them. |
 30:22
Then answeredºº
allº
the wickedº
menº
and [men] of
Bæliyya`al
בְּלִיַּעַל,º
of thoseººº
thatº
wentºº
withº
Däwið
דָּוִד,º
and said,ºº
Becauseºº
they wentºº
notº
withº
us, we will notº
giveºº
them [ought] of the spoilºº
thatº
we have recovered,ºº
saveºº
to every manºº
his wifeº
and his children,º
that they may lead [them] away,ºº
and depart.ººº |
|
 30:22
Then answered all the wicked men and [men] of Beliyyaal, of those that went with Dawid, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them [ought] of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead [them] away, and depart. |
 30:23
Then saidºº
Däwið
דָּוִד,º
Ye shall notº
doº
so,ººº
my brethren,º
withº
that whichº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath givenºº
us, who hath preservedºº
us, and deliveredººº
the companyº
that cameºº
againstº
us into our hand.º |
|
 30:23
Then said Dawid, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which Yahweh hath given us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the company that came against us into our hand. |
 30:24
For whoº
will hearkenºº
unto you in thisº
matter?º
butº
as his partº
[is] that goeth downºººº
to the battle,º
so [shall] his partº
[be] that tarriethºº
byº
the stuff:º
they shall partºº
alike.º |
|
 30:24
For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part [is] that goeth down to the battle, so [shall] his part [be] that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike. |
 30:25
And it wasº
[so] from that dayººº
forward,º
that he madeºº
it a statuteº
and an ordinanceº
for
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
untoº
thisº
day.º |
|
 30:25
And it was [so] from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Yisrael unto this day. |
 30:26 ¶
And when
Däwið
דָּוִדº
cameºº
toº
Xîklaq
צִיקלַג,º
he sentºº
of the spoilºº
unto the eldersº
of
Yæhûðà
יְהוּדָה,º
[even] to his friends,º
saying,ºº
Beholdº
a presentº
for you of the spoilºº
of the enemiesºº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה;º |
|
 30:26 ¶
And when Dawid came to Tziqlag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of Yehudah, [even] to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the spoil of the enemies of Yahweh; |

And to [them] which [were] in Rakhal, and to [them] which [were] in the cities of the Yerachmeelim, and to [them] which [were] in the cities of the Qenim, |

And to [them] which [were] in Chormah, and to [them] which [were] in Bor-Ashan, and to [them] which [were] in Athakh, |

 30:31
And to [them] which [were] in Chevron, and to all the places where Dawid himself and his men were wont to haunt. |
