6:1 ¶
And the ark of Yahweh was in the country of the Pelishtim seven months. |
|
6:2
And the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
calledºº
for the priestsº
and the diviners,ºº
saying,ºº
Whatº
shall we doºº
to the arkº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה?º
tellºº
us wherewithº
we shall sendºº
it to his place.º |

6:2
And the Pelishtim called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of Yahweh? tell us wherewith we shall send it to his place. |
|
6:3
And they said,ºº
Ifº
ye send awayººº
the arkº
of the
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
sendºº
it notº
empty;º
butº
in any wiseºº
returnºº
him a trespass offering:º
thenº
ye shall be healed,ºº
and it shall be knownºº
to you whyº
his handº
is notº
removedºº
fromº
you. |

And they said, If ye send away the ark of the Elohim of Yisrael, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a trespass offering: then ye shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you. |

6:4
Then saidºº
they, Whatº
[shall be] the trespass offeringº
whichº
we shall returnºº
to him? They answered,ºº
Fiveº
goldenº
emerods,ººº
and fiveº
goldenº
mice,º
[according to] the numberº
of the lordsº
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים:º
forº
oneº
plagueº
[was] on you all,º
and on your lords.º |

6:4
Then said they, What [shall be] the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, [according to] the number of the lords of the Pelishtim: for one plague [was] on you all, and on your lords. |

6:5
Wherefore ye shall makeºº
imagesº
of your emerods,ººº
and imagesº
of your miceº
that marººº
the land;º
and ye shall giveºº
gloryº
unto the
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל:º
peradventureº
he will lightenººº
his handº
from offºº
you, and from offºº
your
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
and from offºº
your land.º |

Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory unto the Elohim of Yisrael: peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your elohim, and from off your land. |

Whereforeº
then do ye hardenººº
your hearts,º
asº
the
Mixrîm
מִצרִיםº
and
Par`ò
פַּרעֹהº
hardenedººº
their hearts?º
whenº
he had wrought wonderfullyºº
among them, did they notº
let the people go,ºº
and they departed?ººº |

Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Mitzrim and Paroh hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed? |

Nowº
therefore makeºº
aº
newº
cart,º
and takeºº
twoº
milchºº
kine,º
onº
whichº
there hath comeºº
noº
yoke,º
and tieººº
the kineº
to the cart,º
and bringºº
their calvesº
homeº
fromºº
them:º |

Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them: |

And takeººº
the arkº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
and layºº
it uponº
the cart;º
and putºº
the jewelsº
of gold,º
whichº
ye returnºº
him [for] a trespass offering,º
in a cofferº
by the sideºº
thereof; and send it away,ººº
that it may go.ºº |

6:8
And take the ark of Yahweh, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him [for] a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go. |

6:9
And see,ºº
ifº
it goeth upºº
by the wayº
of his own coastº
to
Bê± Šemeš
בֵּית־שֶׁמֶשׁ,º
[then] heº
hath doneºº
usº
thisº
greatº
evil:º
but ifº
not,º
then we shall knowºº
thatº
[it is] notº
his handº
[that] smoteºº
us: itº
[was] a chanceº
[that] happenedº
to us.ºº |

6:9
And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Beth-Shemesh, [then] he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that [it is] not his hand [that] smote us: it [was] a chance [that] happened to us. |
|
6:10 ¶
And the menºº
didº
so;ººº
and tookºº
twoº
milchºº
kine,º
and tiedºº
them to the cart,º
and shut upºº
their calvesº
at home:º |

6:10 ¶
And the men did so; and took two milch kine, and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home: |

the arkº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
uponº
the cart,º
and the cofferº
withº
the miceº
of goldº
and the imagesº
of their emerods.º |

6:11
And they laid the ark of Yahweh upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their emerods. |
|
6:12
And the kineº
took the straightºº
wayº
toº
the wayº
of
Bê± Šemeš
בֵּית־שֶׁמֶשׁ,º
[and] went alongºº
theº
highway,ºº
lowingºº
as they went,ºº
and turned not asideººº
[to] the right handº
or [to] the left;º
and the lordsº
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
wentºº
afterº
them untoº
the borderº
of
Bê± Šemeš
בֵּית־שֶׁמֶשׁ.º |

And the kine took the straight way to the way of Beth-Shemesh, [and] went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside [to] the right hand or [to] the left; and the lords of the Pelishtim went after them unto the border of Beth-Shemesh. |

And [they of]
Bê± Šemeš
בֵּית־שֶׁמֶשׁº
[were] reapingºº
their wheatº
harvestº
in the valley:º
and they lifted upººº
their eyes,º
and sawººº
the ark,º
and rejoicedºº
to seeºº
[it]. |

And [they of] Beth-Shemesh [were] reaping their wheat harvest in the valley: and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see [it]. |

6:14
And the cartº

the fieldº

a
Bê± Šimšî
בֵּית־שִׁמשִׁי,º
and stoodºº
there,º
whereº
[there was] a greatº
stone:º
and they claveººº
the woodº
of the cart,º
and offeredºº
the kineº
a burnt offeringº
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.º |

And the cart came into the field of Yehoshua, a Beth-Shimshi, and stood there, where [there was] a great stone: and they clave the wood of the cart, and offered the kine a burnt offering unto Yahweh. |

6:15
And the

the arkº

Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
and the cofferº
thatº
[was] withº
it, whereinº
the jewelsº
of goldº
[were], and putºº
[them] onº
the greatº
stone:º
and the menºº

בֵּית־שֶׁמֶשׁº
offeredºº
burnt offeringsº
and sacrificedºº
sacrificesº
the sameº
dayº
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.º |

6:15
And the Lewiyyim took down the ark of Yahweh, and the coffer that [was] with it, wherein the jewels of gold [were], and put [them] on the great stone: and the men of Beth-Shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day unto Yahweh. |

6:16
And when the fiveº
lordsº
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
had seenºº
[it], they returnedºº
to
`Ekrôn
עֶקרוֹןº
the sameº
day.º |

6:16
And when the five lords of the Pelishtim had seen [it], they returned to Eqron the same day. |

6:17
And theseº
[are] the goldenº
emerodsº
whichº
the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
returnedºº
[for] a trespass offeringº
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה;º
for
´Ašdôð
אַשׁדּוֹדº
one,º
for
`Azzà
עַזָּהº
one,º
for
´Aškælôn
אַשׁקְלוֹןº
one,º
for
Ga±
גַּתº
one,º
for
`Ekrôn
עֶקרוֹןº

And these [are] the golden emerods which the Pelishtim returned [for] a trespass offering unto Yahweh; for Ashdod one, for Azzah one, for Ashqelon one, for Gath one, for Eqron one; |

And the goldenº
mice,º
[according to] the numberº
of allº
the citiesº
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
[belonging] to the fiveº
lords,º
[both] of fencedº
cities,ººº
and ofº
countryº
villages,º
even untoº
the greatº
[stone of]
Hävel
הָבֶל,º
whereonºº
they set downºººº
the arkº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה:º
[which stone remaineth] untoº
thisº
dayº
in the fieldº
of
Yæhôšuå`
יְהוֹשֻׁעַ,º
the
Bê± Šimšî
בֵּית־שִׁמשִׁי.º |

And the golden mice, [according to] the number of all the cities of the Pelishtim [belonging] to the five lords, [both] of fenced cities, and of country villages, even unto the great [stone of] Havel, whereon they set down the ark of Yahweh: [which stone remaineth] unto this day in the field of Yehoshua, the Beth-Shimshi. |

And he smoteºº
the menº
of
Bê± Šemeš
בֵּית־שֶׁמֶשׁ,º
becauseº
they had lookedºº
into the arkº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
even he smoteºº
of the peopleº
fiftyº
thousandº
and threescore and tenº
men:ºº
and the peopleº
lamented,ºº
becauseº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
had smittenºº
[many] of the peopleº
with a greatº
slaughter.º |

6:19 ¶
And he smote the men of Beth-Shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of Yahweh, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because Yahweh had smitten [many] of the people with a great slaughter. |
|
6:20
And the menºº
of

בֵּית־שֶׁמֶשׁº
said,ºº
Whoº
is ableºº
to standºº
beforeº
thisº
holyº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים?º
and toº
whomº
shall he go upºº
fromºº
us? |

6:20
And the men of Beth-Shemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy Yahweh Elohim? and to whom shall he go up from us? |
|
6:21 ¶
And they sentºº
messengersº
toº
the inhabitantsºº
of
Kirya± Yæ`ärîm
קִריַת־יְעָרִים,º
saying,ºº
The
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
have brought againººº
the arkº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה;º
come ye down,ºº
[and] fetch it upººº
toº
you. |

6:21 ¶
And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Qiryath-Yearim, saying, The Pelishtim have brought again the ark of Yahweh; come ye down, [and] fetch it up to you. |
