 27:1 ¶ And Däwið דָּוִדº saidºº inº his heart,º I shall nowº perishºº oneº dayº by the handº of Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל:º [there is] nothingº betterº for me thanº thatº I should speedilyºº escapeºº intoº the landº of the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּים;º and Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº shall despairºº ofº me, to seekºº me any moreº in anyº coastº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:º so shall I escapeºº out of his hand.ºº

 27:1 ¶ And Dawid said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Shaul: [there is] nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Pelishtim; and Shaul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Yisrael: so shall I escape out of his hand.

 27:2 And Däwið דָּוִדº arose,ºº and heº passed overºº with the sixº hundredº menº thatº [were] withº him untoº ´Ä¢îš אָכִישׁ,º the sonº of Mä`ô¢ מָעוֹך,º kingº of Ga± גַּת.º

 27:2 And Dawid arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that [were] with him unto Akhish, the son of Maokh, king of Gath.

 27:3 And Däwið דָּוִדº dweltºº withº ´Ä¢îš אָכִישׁº at Ga± גַּת,º heº and his men,ºº every manº with his household,º [even] Däwið דָּוִדº with his twoº wives,º ´Áçînö`am אֲחִינֹעַםº the Yizræ`ë´lî± יִזרְעֵאלִית,º and ´Áviqäyil אֲבִגָיִלº the Carmælî± כַּרמְלִית,ºº Näväl's נָבָלº wife.º

 27:3 And Dawid dwelt with Akhish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, [even] Dawid with his two wives, Achinoam the Yizreelith, and Avigayil the Karmelith, Naval's wife.

 27:4 And it was toldºº Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº thatº Däwið דָּוִדº was fledºº to Ga± גַּת:º and he soughtºº noº moreº againºººº for him.

 27:4 And it was told Shaul that Dawid was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.

 27:5 ¶ And Däwið דָּוִדº saidºº untoº ´Ä¢îš אָכִישׁ,º Ifº I have nowº foundºº graceº in thine eyes,º let them giveºº me a placeº in someº townº in the country,º that I may dwellºº there:º for whyº should thy servantº dwellºº in the royalº cityº withº thee?

 27:5 ¶ And Dawid said unto Akhish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?

 27:6 Then ´Ä¢îš אָכִישׁº gaveºº himº Xîklaq צִיקלַגº thatº day:º whereforeº Xîklaq צִיקלַגº pertainethº unto the kingsº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָהº untoº thisº day.º

 27:6 Then Akhish gave him Tziqlag that day: wherefore Tziqlag pertaineth unto the kings of Yehudah unto this day.

 27:7 And the timeºº thatº Däwið דָּוִדº dweltºº in the countryº of the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּיםº wasº a fullº yearº and fourº months.º

 27:7 And the time that Dawid dwelt in the country of the Pelishtim was a full year and four months.

 27:8 ¶ And Däwið דָּוִדº and his menºº went up,ºº and invadedººº the Gæšûrîm גְּשׁוּרִים,º and the Gizrîm גִּזרִים,º and the `Ámälëkîm עֲמָלֵקִים:º forº thoseº [nations were] of oldººº the inhabitantsºº of the land,º as thou goestºº to Šûr שׁוּר,º even untoº the landº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם.º

 27:8 ¶ And Dawid and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurim, and the Gizrim, and the Amaleqim: for those [nations were] of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Mitzrayim.

 27:9 And Däwið דָּוִדº smoteººº the land,º and leftº neitherº manº nor womanº alive,ºº and took awayºº the sheep,º and the oxen,º and the asses,º and the camels,º and the apparel,º and returned,ºº and cameºº toº ´Ä¢îš אָכִישׁ.º

 27:9 And Dawid smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Akhish.

 27:10 And ´Ä¢îš אָכִישׁº said,ºº Whitherº have ye made a roadºº to day?º And Däwið דָּוִדº said,ºº Againstº the southº of Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה,º and againstº the southº of the Yæraçmæ´ëlîm יְרַחמְאֵלִים,º and againstº the southº of the Kênîm קֵינִים.º

 27:10 And Akhish said, Whither have ye made a road to day? And Dawid said, Against the south of Yehudah, and against the south of the Yerachmeelim, and against the south of the Qenim.

 27:11 And Däwið דָּוִדº savedºº neitherº manº nor womanº alive,ºº to bringºº [tidings] to Ga± גַּת,º saying,ºº Lestº they should tellºº onº us, saying,ºº Soº didºº Däwið דָּוִד,º and soº [will be] his mannerº allº the whileº he dwellethºº in the countryº of the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּים.º

 27:11 And Dawid saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring [tidings] to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell on us, saying, So did Dawid, and so [will be] his manner all the while he dwelleth in the country of the Pelishtim.

 27:12 And ´Ä¢îš אָכִישׁº believedºº Däwið דָּוִד,º saying,ºº He hath made his peopleº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº utterlyºº to abhorºº him; therefore he shall beº my servantº for ever.º

 27:12 And Akhish believed Dawid, saying, He hath made his people Yisrael utterly to abhor him; therefore he shall be my servant for ever.
