 19:1 ¶ And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº spakeºº toº Yæhônä±än יְהוֹנָתָןºº his son,º and toº allº his servants,º that they should killººº Däwið דָּוִד.º

 19:1 ¶ And Shaul spake to Yehonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill Dawid.

 19:2 But Yæhônä±än יְהוֹנָתָןº Šä´ûl's שָׁאוּלº sonº delightedºº muchº in Däwið דָּוִד:º and Yæhônä±än יְהוֹנָתָןº toldºº Däwið דָּוִד,º saying,ºº Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº my fatherº seekethºº to killºº thee: nowº therefore, I pray thee,º take heedºº to thyselfº until the morning,º and abideºº in a secretº [place], and hideºº thyself:º

 19:2 But Yehonathan Shaul's son delighted much in Dawid: and Yehonathan told Dawid, saying, Shaul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret [place], and hide thyself:

 19:3 And Iº will go outºº and standºº besideº my fatherº in the fieldº whereºº thouº [art], and Iº will communeºº withº my fatherº of thee; and whatº I see,ºº that I will tellºº thee.

 19:3 And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou [art], and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.

 19:4 ¶ And Yæhônä±än יְהוֹנָתָןº spakeºº goodº of Däwið דָּוִדº untoº Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº his father,º and saidºº untoº him, Let notº the kingº sinºº against his servant,º against Däwið דָּוִד;º becauseº he hath notº sinnedºº against thee, and becauseº his worksº [have been] to thee-ward veryº good:º

 19:4 ¶ And Yehonathan spake good of Dawid unto Shaul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against Dawid; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works [have been] to thee-ward very good:

 19:5 For he did putººº his lifeº in his hand,º and slewººº the Pælištî פְּלִשׁתִּי,º and Yähwè יָהוֶהº wroughtºº a greatº salvationº for allº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל:º thou sawestºº [it], and didst rejoice:ºº whereforeº then wilt thou sinºº against innocentº blood,º to slayººº Däwið דָּוִדº without a cause?º

 19:5 For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Pelishti, and Yahweh wrought a great salvation for all Yisrael: thou sawest [it], and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay Dawid without a cause?

 19:6 And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº hearkenedºº unto the voiceº of Yæhônä±än יְהוֹנָתָן:º and Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº sware,ºº [As] Yähwè יָהוֶהº liveth,º he shall notº be slain.ºº

 19:6 And Shaul hearkened unto the voice of Yehonathan: and Shaul sware, [As] Yahweh liveth, he shall not be slain.

 19:7 And Yæhônä±än יְהוֹנָתָןº calledºº Däwið דָּוִד,º and Yæhônä±än יְהוֹנָתָןº shewedºº himº allº thoseº things.º And Yæhônä±än יְהוֹנָתָןº broughtººº Däwið דָּוִדº toº Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל,º and he wasº in his presence,º as in times past.ºº

 19:7 And Yehonathan called Dawid, and Yehonathan shewed him all those things. And Yehonathan brought Dawid to Shaul, and he was in his presence, as in times past.

 19:8 ¶ And there wasº warº again:ºº and Däwið דָּוִדº went out,ºº and foughtºº with the Pælištîm פְּלִשׁתִּים,º and slewºº them with a greatº slaughter;º and they fledºº fromºº him.

 19:8 ¶ And there was war again: and Dawid went out, and fought with the Pelishtim, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.

 19:9 And the evilº spiritº from Yähwè יָהוֶהº wasº uponº Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל,º as heº satºº in his houseº with his javelinº in his hand:º and Däwið דָּוִדº playedºº with [his] hand.º

 19:9 And the evil spirit from Yahweh was upon Shaul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and Dawid played with [his] hand.

 19:10 And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº soughtºº to smiteºº Däwið דָּוִדº even to the wallº with the javelin;º but he slipped awayºº out of Šä´ûl's שָׁאוּלº presence,ººº and he smoteººº the javelinº into the wall:º and Däwið דָּוִדº fled,ºº and escapedºº thatº night.º

 19:10 And Shaul sought to smite Dawid even to the wall with the javelin; but he slipped away out of Shaul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and Dawid fled, and escaped that night.

 19:11 Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº also sentºº messengersº untoº Däwið's דָּוִדº house,º to watchºº him, and to slayºº him in the morning:º and Mî¢al מִיכַלº Däwið's דָּוִדº wifeº toldºº him, saying,ºº Ifº thou saveºº notºº thy lifeº to night,º to morrowº thouº shalt be slain.ºº

 19:11 Shaul also sent messengers unto Dawid's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Mikhal Dawid's wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain.

 19:12 ¶ So Mî¢al מִיכַלº letºº Däwið דָּוִדº downºººº throughº a window:º and he went,ººº and fled,ºº and escaped.ºº

 19:12 ¶ So Mikhal let Dawid down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.

 19:13 And Mî¢al מִיכַלº tookººº an image,º and laidºº [it] inº the bed,º and putºº a pillowº of goats'º [hair] for his bolster,º and coveredºº [it] with a cloth.º

 19:13 And Mikhal took an image, and laid [it] in the bed, and put a pillow of goats' [hair] for his bolster, and covered [it] with a cloth.

 19:14 And when Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº sentºº messengersº to takeººº Däwið דָּוִד,º she said,ºº Heº [is] sick.ºº

 19:14 And when Shaul sent messengers to take Dawid, she said, He [is] sick.

 19:15 And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº sentººº the messengersº [again] to seeººº Däwið דָּוִד,º saying,ºº Bring him upººº toº me in the bed,º that I may slayºº him.

 19:15 And Shaul sent the messengers [again] to see Dawid, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.

 19:16 And when the messengersº were come in,ºº behold,º [there was] an imageº inº the bed,º with a pillowº of goats'º [hair] for his bolster.º

 19:16 And when the messengers were come in, behold, [there was] an image in the bed, with a pillow of goats' [hair] for his bolster.

 19:17 And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº saidºº untoº Mî¢al מִיכַל,º Whyº hast thou deceivedº me so,ººº and sent awayººº mine enemy,ºº that he is escaped?ºº And Mî¢al מִיכַלº answeredººº Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל,º Heº saidºº untoº me, Let me go;ºº whyº should I killºº thee?

 19:17 And Shaul said unto Mikhal, Why hast thou deceived me so, and sent away mine enemy, that he is escaped? And Mikhal answered Shaul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?

 19:18 ¶ So Däwið דָּוִדº fled,ºº and escaped,ºº and cameºº toº Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵלº to Rämà רָמָה,º and toldºº himº allº thatº Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº had doneºº to him. And heº and Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵלº wentººº and dweltºº in Näyô± נָיוֹת.º

 19:18 ¶ So Dawid fled, and escaped, and came to Shemuel to Ramah, and told him all that Shaul had done to him. And he and Shemuel went and dwelt in Nayoth.

 19:19 And it was toldºº Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל,º saying,ºº Behold,º Däwið דָּוִדº [is] at Näyô± נָיוֹתº in Rämà רָמָה.º

 19:19 And it was told Shaul, saying, Behold, Dawid [is] at Nayoth in Ramah.

 19:20 And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº sentºº messengersº to takeººº Däwið דָּוִד:º and when they sawººº the companyº of the prophetsº prophesying,ºº and Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵלº standingºº [as] appointedºº overº them, the Spiritº of ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº wasº uponº the messengersº of Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל,º and theyº alsoº prophesied.ºº

 19:20 And Shaul sent messengers to take Dawid: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Shemuel standing [as] appointed over them, the Spirit of Elohim was upon the messengers of Shaul, and they also prophesied.

 19:21 And when it was toldºº Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל,º he sentºº otherº messengers,º and theyº prophesiedºº likewise.º And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº sentºº messengersº againºº the thirdº time, and theyº prophesiedºº also.º

 19:21 And when it was told Shaul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Shaul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.

 19:22 Then wentººº heº alsoº to Rämà רָמָה,º and cameºº toº a greatº wellº thatº [is] in §e¢û שֶׂכוּ:º and he askedºº and said,ºº Whereº [are] Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵלº and Däwið דָּוִד?º And [one] said,ºº Behold,º [they be] at Näyô± נָיוֹתº in Rämà רָמָה.º

 19:22 Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that [is] in Sekhu: and he asked and said, Where [are] Shemuel and Dawid? And [one] said, Behold, [they be] at Nayoth in Ramah.

 19:23 And he wentººº thitherº toº Näyô± נָיוֹתº in Rämà רָמָה:º and the Spiritº of ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº wasº uponº himº also,º and he wentºº on,ºº and prophesied,ºº untilº he cameºº to Näyô± נָיוֹתº in Rämà רָמָה.º

 19:23 And he went thither to Nayoth in Ramah: and the Spirit of Elohim was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Nayoth in Ramah.

 19:24 And heº stripped offºº his clothesº also,º and prophesiedºº beforeº Šæmû´ël שְׁמוּאֵלº in like manner,º and lay downºº nakedº allº thatº dayº and allº that night.º Whereforeºº they say,ºº [Is] Šä´ûl שָׁאוּלº alsoº among the prophets?º

 19:24 And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Shemuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, [Is] Shaul also among the prophets?
