 19:1 ¶ And when the Lord thy God shall have destroyed the nations, which God gives thee, [even] the land, and ye shall inherit them, and dwell in their cities, and in their houses,

 19:1 ¶ Whenº Yahwehº thy Elohimº hath cut offººº the nations,º whoseºº landº Yahwehº thy Elohimº givethºº thee, and thou succeedestºº them, and dwellestºº in their cities,º and in their houses;º

 19:2 thou shalt separate for thyself three cities in the midst of thy land, which the Lord thy God gives thee.

 19:2 Thou shalt separateºº threeº citiesº for thee in the midstº of thy land,º whichº Yahwehº thy Elohimº givethºº thee to possessºº it.

 19:3 Take a survey of thy way, and thou shalt divide the coasts of thy land, which the Lord thy God apportions to thee, into three parts, and there shall be there a refuge for every manslayer.

 19:3 Thou shalt prepareºº thee a way,º and divideºº the coastsº of thy land,º whichº Yahwehº thy Elohimº giveth thee to inherit,ºº into three parts,ºº that everyº slayerºº mayº fleeºº thither.º

 19:4 ¶ And this shall be the ordinance of the manslayer, who shall flee thither, and shall live, whosoever shall have smitten his neighbour ignorantly, whereas he hated him not in times past.

 19:4 ¶ And thisº [is] the caseº of the slayer,ºº whichº shall fleeºº thither,º that he may live:ºº Whosoº killethººº his neighbourº ignorantly,ºººº whom heº hatedºº notº in timeºº past;ººº

 19:5 And whosoever shall enter with his neighbour into the thicket, to gather wood, if the hand of him that cuts wood with the axe should be violently shaken, and the axe head falling off from the handle should light on his neighbour, and he should die, he shall flee to one of these cities, and live.

 19:5 As when a manº goethºº into the woodº withº his neighbourº to hewºº wood,º and his handº fetcheth a strokeºº with the axeº to cut downºº the tree,º and the headº slippethºº fromº the helve,º and lightethºº uponºº his neighbour,º that he die;ºº heº shall fleeºº untoº oneº of thoseº cities,º and live:ºº

 19:6 Lest the avenger of blood pursue after the slayer, because his heart is hot, and overtake him, if the way be too long, and slay him, though there is to this man no sentence of death, because he hated him not in time past.

 19:6 Lestº the avengerºº of the bloodºº pursueººº the slayer,ººº whileº his heartº is hot,ºº and overtakeºº him, becauseº the wayº is long,ºº and slayºº him;º whereas he [was] notº worthyº of death,ºº inasmuch asº heº hatedºº him notº in timeºº past.ººº

 19:7 Therefore I charge thee, saying, Thou shalt separate for thy self three cities.

 19:7 Whereforeºº Iº commandºº thee, saying,ºº Thou shalt separateºº threeº citiesº for thee.

 19:8 And if the Lord shall enlarge thy borders, as he sware to thy fathers, and the Lord shall give to thee all the land which he said he would give to thy fathers;

 19:8 And ifº Yahwehº thy Elohimº enlargeººº thy coast,º asº he hath swornºº unto thy fathers,º and giveºº theeº allº the landº whichº he promisedºº to giveºº unto thy fathers;º

 19:9 if thou shalt hearken to do all these commands, which I charge thee this day, to love the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways continually; thou shalt add for thyself yet three cities to these three.

 19:9 Ifº thou shalt keepººº allº theseº commandmentsº to doºº them, whichº Iº commandºº thee this day,º to loveººº Yahwehº thy Elohim,º and to walkººº everºº in his ways;º then shalt thou addºº threeº citiesº moreº for thee, besideº theseº three:º

 19:10 So innocent blood shall not be spilt in the land, which the Lord thy God gives thee to inherit, and there shall not be in thee one guilty of blood.

 19:10 That innocentº bloodº be notº shedºº inº thy land,º whichº Yahwehº thy Elohimº givethºº thee [for] an inheritance,º and [so] bloodº beº uponº thee.

 19:11 ¶ But if there should be in thee a man hating his neighbour, and he should lay wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him, that he die, and he should flee to one of these cities,

 19:11 ¶ But ifº any manº hateººº his neighbour,º and lie in waitºº for him, and rise upºº againstº him, and smiteºº him mortallyº that he die,ºº and fleethºº intoº oneº of theseº cities:º

 19:12 then shall the elders of his city send, and take him thence, and they shall deliver him into the hands of the avengers of blood, and he shall die.

 19:12 Then the eldersº of his cityº shall sendºº and fetchºº him thence,ºº and deliverºº him into the handº of the avengerºº of blood,º that he may die.ºº

 19:13 Thine eye shall not spare him; so shalt thou purge innocent blood from Israel, and it shall be well with thee.

 19:13 Thine eyeº shall notº pityººº him, but thou shalt put awayºº [the guilt of] innocentº bloodº from Israel,ºº that it may go wellºº with thee.

 19:14 ¶ Thou shalt not move the landmarks of thy neighbour, which thy fathers set in the inheritance, in which thou hast obtained a share in the land, which the Lord thy God gives thee to inherit.

 19:14 ¶ Thou shalt notº removeºº thy neighbour'sº landmark,º whichº they of old timeº have setºº in thine inheritance,º whichº thou shalt inheritºº in the landº thatº Yahwehº thy Elohimº givethºº thee to possessºº it.

 19:15 ¶ One witness shall not stand to testify against a man for any iniquity, or for any fault, or for any sin which he may commit; by the mouth of two witnesses, or by the mouth of three witnesses, shall every word be established.

 19:15 ¶ Oneº witnessº shall notº rise upºº against a manº for anyº iniquity,º or for anyº sin,º in anyº sinº thatº he sinneth:ºº atº the mouthº of twoº witnesses,º orº atº the mouthº of threeº witnesses,º shall the matterº be established.ºº

 19:16 ¶ And if an unjust witness rise up against a man, alleging iniquity against him;

 19:16 ¶ Ifº a falseº witnessº rise upºº against any manº to testifyºº against him [that which is] wrong;º

 19:17 then shall the two men between whom the controversy is, stand before the Lord, and before the priests, and before the judges, who may be in those days.

 19:17 Then bothº the men,ºº between whomº the controversyº [is], shall standºº beforeº Yahweh,º beforeº the priestsº and the judges,ºº whichº shall beº in thoseº days;º

 19:18 And the judges shall make diligent inquiry, and, behold, [if] and unjust witness has borne unjust testimony; [and] has stood up against his brother;

 19:18 And the judgesºº shall make diligentºº inquisition:ººº and, behold,º [if] the witnessº [be] a falseº witness,º [and] hath testifiedºº falselyº against his brother;º

 19:19 then shall ye do to him as he wickedly devised to do against his brother, and thou shalt remove the evil from yourselves.

 19:19 Then shall ye doºº unto him, asº he had thoughtºº to have doneºº unto his brother:º so shalt thou putºº the evilº awayººº from amongºº you.

 19:20 And the rest shall hear and fear, and do no more according to this evil thing in the midst of you.

 19:20 And those which remainºº shall hear,ºº and fear,ºº and shall henceforthºº commitºº noº moreº anyº suchº evilº amongº you.

 19:21 Thine eye shall not spare him: [thou shalt exact] life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

 19:21 And thine eyeº shall notº pity;ºº [but] lifeº [shall go] for life,º eyeº for eye,º toothº for tooth,º handº for hand,º footº for foot.º
