 25:1 ¶ And if there should be a dispute between men, and they should come forward to judgment, and [the judges] judge, and justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked:

 25:1 ¶ Ifº there beº a controversyº betweenº men,ºº and they comeºº untoº judgment,º that [the judges] may judgeºº them; then they shall justifyººº the righteous,º and condemnººº the wicked.º

 25:2 then it shall come to pass, if the unrighteous should be worthy of stripes, thou shalt lay him down before the judges, and they shall scourge him before them according to his iniquity.

 25:2 And it shall be,º ifº the wickedº manº [be] worthyº to be beaten,ººº that the judgeºº shall cause him to lie down,ºº and to be beatenºº before his face,º accordingº toº his fault,º by a certain number.º

 25:3 And they shall scourge him with forty stripes in number, they shall not inflict more; for if thou shouldest scourge him [with] more stripes beyond these stripes, thy brother will be disgraced before thee.

 25:3 Fortyº stripesºº he may giveº him, [and] notº exceed:ºº lest,º [if] he should exceed,ºº and beatºº him aboveº theseº with manyº stripes,º then thy brotherº should seem vileººº untoº thee.

 25:4 ¶ Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treads out the corn.

 25:4 ¶ Thou shalt notº muzzleºº the oxº when he treadeth outººº [the corn].

 25:5 ¶ And if brethren should live together, and one of them should die, and should not have seed, the wife of the deceased shall not marry out [of the family] to a man not related: her husband's brother shall go in to her, and shall take her to himself for a wife, and shall dwell with her.

 25:5 ¶ Ifº brethrenº dwellºº together,º and oneº ofº them die,ºº and have noº child,º the wifeº of the deadºº shall notº marryº withoutº unto a stranger:ººº her husband's brotherº shall go inºº untoº her, and takeºº her to him to wife,º and perform the duty of an husband's brotherºº unto her.

 25:6 And it shall come to pass that the child which she shall bear, shall be named by the name of the deceased, and his name shall not be blotted out of Israel.

 25:6 And it shall be,º [that] the firstbornº whichº she bearethºº shall succeedºº inº the nameº of his brotherº [which is] dead,ºº that his nameº be notº put outºº of Israel.ºº

 25:7 And if the man should not be willing to take his brother's wife, then shall the woman go up to the gate to the elders, and she shall say, My husband's brother will not raise up the name of his brother in Israel, my husband's brother has refused.

 25:7 And ifº the manº likeºº notº to takeººº his brother's wife,º then let his brother's wifeº go upºº to the gateº untoº the elders,º and say,ºº My husband's brotherº refusethºº to raise upºº unto his brotherº a nameº in Israel,º he willºº notº perform the duty of my husband's brother.ºº

 25:8 And the elders of his city shall call him, and speak to him; and if he stand and say, I will not take her:

 25:8 Then the eldersº of his cityº shall callºº him, and speakºº untoº him: and [if] he standºº [to it], and say,ºº I likeºº notº to takeºº her;

 25:9 then his brother's wife shall come forward before the elders, and shall loose one shoe from off his foot, and shall spit in his face, and shall answer and say, Thus shall they do to the man who will not build his brother's house in Israel.

 25:9 Then shall his brother's wifeº comeºº untoº him in the presenceº of the elders,º and looseºº his shoeº from offºº his foot,º and spitºº in his face,º and shall answerºº and say,ºº Soº shall it be doneºº unto that manº thatº will notº build upººº his brother'sº house.º

 25:10 And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that has had his shoe loosed.

 25:10 And his nameº shall be calledºº in Israel,º The houseº of him that hath his shoeº loosed.ºº

 25:11 ¶ And if men should strive together, a man with his brother, and the wife of one of them should advance to rescue her husband out of the hand of him that smites him, and she should stretch forth her hand, and take hold of his private parts;

 25:11 ¶ Whenº menºº striveºº togetherº oneº with another,ºº and the wifeº of the oneº draweth nearºº for to deliverººº her husbandº out of the handºº of him that smitethºº him, and putteth forthºº her hand,º and takethºº him by the secrets:º

 25:12 thou shalt cut off her hand; thine eye shall not spare her.

 25:12 Then thou shalt cut offººº her hand,º thine eyeº shall notº pityºº [her].

 25:13 ¶ Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small.

 25:13 ¶ Thou shalt notº haveº in thy bagº divers weights,º a greatº and a small.º

 25:14 Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small.

 25:14 Thou shalt notº haveº in thine houseº divers measures,º a greatº and a small.º

 25:15 Thou shalt have a true and just weight, and a true and just measure, that thou mayest live long upon the land which the Lord thy God gives thee for an inheritance.

 25:15 [But] thou shalt haveº a perfectº and justº weight,º a perfectº and justº measureº shalt thou have:º thatº thy daysº may be lengthenedºº inº the landº whichº Yahwehº thy Elohimº givethºº thee.

 25:16 For every one that does this [is] an abomination to the Lord thy God, even every one that does injustice.

 25:16 Forº allº that doºº such things,º [and] allº that doºº unrighteously,º [are] an abominationº unto Yahwehº thy Elohim.º

 25:17 ¶ Remember what things Amalek{gr.Amalec} did to thee by the way, when thou wentest forth out of the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}:

 25:17 ¶ Rememberººº whatº Amalekº didºº unto thee by the way,º when ye were come forthºº out of Egypt;ºº

 25:18 how he withstood thee in the way, and harassed thy rear, [even] those that were weary behind thee, and thou didst hunger and wast weary; and he did not fear God.

 25:18 Howº he metºº thee by the way,º and smote the hindmostºº of thee, [even] allº [that were] feebleºº behindº thee, when thouº [wast] faintº and weary;º and he fearedºº notº Elohim.º

 25:19 And it shall come to pass whenever the Lord thy God shall have given thee rest from all thine enemies round about thee, in the land which the Lord thy God gives thee to inherit, thou shalt blot out the name of Amalek{gr.Amalec} from under heaven, and shalt not forget [to do it].

 25:19 Therefore it shall be,º when Yahwehº thy Elohimº hath given thee restºº from allºº thine enemiesºº round about,ºº in the landº whichº Yahwehº thy Elohimº givethºº thee [for] an inheritanceº to possessºº it, [that] thou shalt blot outººº the remembranceº of Amalekº from underºº heaven;º thou shalt notº forgetºº [it].
