 22:1 ¶
When thou seest the calf of thy brother or his sheep wandering in the way, thou shalt not overlook them; thou shalt by all means turn them back to thy brother, and thou shalt restore them to him. |
|
 22:1 ¶
Thou shalt notº
seeººº
thy brother'sº
oxº
orºº
his sheepº
go astray,ºº
and hideºº
thyselfº
fromº
them: thou shalt in any caseºº
bring them againºº
unto thy brother.º |
 22:2
And if thy brother do not come nigh thee, and thou dost not know him, thou shalt bring it into thy house within; and it shall be with thee until thy brother shall seek them, and thou shalt restore them to him. |
|
 22:2
And ifº
thy brotherº
[be] notº
nighº
untoº
thee, or if thou knowºº
him not,º
then thou shalt bringºº
it untoºº
thine own house,º
and it shall beº
withº
thee untilº
thy brotherº
seekºº
afterº
it, and thou shalt restoreº
it to him again.ºº |
 22:3
Thus shalt thou do to his ass, and thus shalt thou do to his garment, and thus shalt thou do to every thing that thy brother has lost; whatsoever shall have been lost by him, and thou shalt have found, thou shalt not have power to overlook. |
|
 22:3
In like mannerº
shalt thou doºº
with his ass;º
and soº
shalt thou doºº
with his raiment;º
and with allº
lost thingº
of thy brother's,º
whichº
he hath lost,ºº
and thou hast found,ºº
shalt thou doºº
likewise:º
thou mayestºº
notº
hideºº
thyself.º |
 22:4 ¶
Thou shalt not see the ass of thy brother, or his calf, fallen in the way: thou shalt not overlook them, thou shalt surely help him to raise them up. |
|
 22:4 ¶
Thou shalt notº
seeººº
thy brother'sº
assº
orº
his oxº
fall downºº
by the way,º
and hideºº
thyselfº
fromº
them: thou shalt surelyºº
help him to lift [them] up again.ººº |
 22:5 ¶
The apparel of a man shall not be on a woman, neither shall a man put on a woman's dress; for every one that does these things is an abomination to the Lord thy God. |
|
 22:5 ¶
The womanº
shall notº
wearº
that which pertainethº
unto a man,º
neitherº
shall a manº
putºº
onº
a woman'sº
garment:º
forº
allº
that doºº
soº
[are] abominationº
unto Yahwehº
thy Elohim.º |
 22:6 ¶
And if thou shouldest come upon a brood of birds before thy face in the way or upon any tree, or upon the earth, young or eggs, and the mother be brooding on the young or the eggs, thou shalt not take the dam with the young ones. |
|
 22:6 ¶
Ifº
a bird'sº
nestº
chanceºº
to beº
beforeº
thee in the wayº
in anyº
tree,º
orº
onº
the ground,º
[whether they be] young ones,º
orº
eggs,º
and the damº
sittingºº
uponº
the young,º
orº
uponº
the eggs,º
thou shalt notº
takeºº
the damº
withº
the young:º |
 22:7
Thou shalt by all means let the mother go, but thou shalt take the young to thyself; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest live long. |
|
 22:7
[But] thou shalt in any wiseººº
let the damº
go,ºº
and takeºº
the youngº
to thee; thatº
it may be wellºº
with thee, and [that] thou mayest prolongºº
[thy] days.º |
 22:8 ¶
If thou shouldest build a new house, then shalt thou make a parapet to thy house; so thou shalt not bring blood-guiltiness upon thy house, if one should in any wise fall from it. |
|
 22:8 ¶
Whenº
thou buildestºº
a newº
house,º
then thou shalt makeºº
a battlementº
for thy roof,º
that thou bringºº
notº
bloodº
upon thine house,º
ifº
any manºº
fallºº
fromº
thence. |
 22:9 ¶
Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with diverse seed, lest the fruit be devoted, and whatsoever seed thou mayest sow, with the fruit of thy vineyard. |
|
 22:9 ¶
Thou shalt notº
sowºº
thy vineyardº
with divers seeds:º
lestº
the fruitº
of thy seedº
whichº
thou hast sown,ºº
and the fruitº
of thy vineyard,º
be defiled.ºº |
 22:10 ¶
Thou shalt not plough with an ox and an ass together. |
|
 22:10 ¶
Thou shalt notº
plowºº
with an oxº
and an assº
together.º |
 22:11 ¶
Thou shalt not wear a mingled [garment], woollen and linen together. |
|
 22:11 ¶
Thou shalt notº
wearºº
a garment of divers sorts,º
[as] of woollenº
and linenº
together.º |
 22:12 ¶
Thou shalt make fringes on the four borders of thy garments, with which soever thou mayest be clothed. |
|
 22:12 ¶
Thou shalt makeºº
thee fringesº
uponº
the fourº
quartersº
of thy vesture,º
wherewithº
thou coverestºº
[thyself]. |
 22:13 ¶
And if any one should take a wife, and dwell with her, and hate her, |
|
 22:13 ¶
Ifº
any manº
takeºº
a wife,º
and go inºº
untoº
her, and hateºº
her, |
 22:14
and attach to her reproachful words, and bring against her an evil name, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her I found not her tokens of virginity: |
|
 22:14
And giveºº
occasionsº
of speechº
against her, and bring upºº
an evilº
nameº
uponº
her, and say,ºº
I tookººº
thisº
woman,º
and when I cameºº
toº
her, I foundºº
her notº
a maid:º |
 22:15
then the father and the mother of the damsel shall take and bring out the damsel's tokens of virginity to the elders of the city to the gate. |
|
 22:15
Then shall the fatherº
of the damsel,º
and her mother,º
takeºº
and bring forthººº
[the tokens of] the damsel'sº
virginityº
untoº
the eldersº
of the cityº
in the gate:º |
 22:16
And the father of the damsel shall say to the elders, I gave this my daughter to this man for a wife; |
|
 22:16
And the damsel'sº
fatherº
shall sayºº
untoº
the elders,º
I gaveººº
my daughterº
unto thisº
manº
to wife,º
and he hatethºº
her; |
 22:17
and now he has hated her, and attaches reproachful words to her, saying, I have not found tokens of virginity with thy daughter; and these [are] the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall unfold the garment before the elders of the city. |
|
 22:17
And, lo,º
heº
hath givenºº
occasionsº
of speechº
[against her], saying,ºº
I foundºº
notº
thy daughterº
a maid;º
and yet theseº
[are the tokens of] my daughter'sº
virginity.º
And they shall spreadºº
the clothº
beforeº
the eldersº
of the city.º |
 22:18
And the elders of that city shall take that man, and shall chastise him, |
|
 22:18
And the eldersº
of thatº
cityº
shall takeººº
that manº
and chastiseºº
him; |
 22:19
and shall fine him a hundred shekels, and shall give [them] to the father of the damsel, because he has brought forth an evil name against a virgin of Israel; and she shall be his wife: he shall never be able to put her away. |
|
 22:19
And they shall amerceºº
him in an hundredº
[shekels] of silver,º
and giveºº
[them] unto the fatherº
of the damsel,º
becauseº
he hath brought upºº
an evilº
nameº
uponº
a virginº
of Israel:º
and she shall beº
his wife;º
he mayºº
notº
put her awayºº
allº
his days.º |
 22:20
But if this report be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel; |
|
 22:20
But ifº
thisº
thingº
beº
true,º
[and the tokens of] virginityº
be notº
foundºº
for the damsel:º |
 22:21
then shall they bring out the damsel to the doors of her father's house, and shall stone her with stones, and she shall die; because she has wrought folly among the children of Israel, to defile the house of her father by whoring: so thou shalt remove the evil one from among you. |
|
 22:21
Then they shall bring outººº
the damselº
toº
the doorº
of her father'sº
house,º
and the menºº
of her cityº
shall stoneºº
her with stonesº
that she die:ºº
becauseº
she hath wroughtºº
follyº
in Israel,º
to play the whoreºº
in her father'sº
house:º
so shalt thou putºº
evilº
awayººº
from amongºº
you. |
 22:22 ¶
And if a man be found lying with a woman married to a man, ye shall kill them both, the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou remove the wicked one out of Israel. |
|
 22:22 ¶
Ifº
a manº
be foundºº
lyingºº
withº
a womanº
marriedºº
to an husband,º
then they shall bothºº
of themº
die,ºº
[both] the manº
that layºº
withº
the woman,º
and the woman:º
so shalt thou put awayºº
evilº
from Israel.ºº |
 22:23 ¶
And if there be a young damsel espoused to a man, and a man should have found her in the city and have lain with her; |
|
 22:23 ¶
Ifº
a damselº
[that is] a virginº
beº
betrothedºº
unto an husband,º
and a manº
findºº
her in the city,º
and lieºº
withº
her; |
 22:24
ye shall bring them both out to the gate of their city, and they shall be stoned with stones, and they shall die; the damsel, because she cried not in the city; and the man, because he humbled his neighbour's spouse: so shalt thou remove the evil one from yourselves. |
|
 22:24
Then ye shall bringºº
them bothº
outººº
untoº
the gateº
of thatº
city,º
and ye shall stoneºº
them with stonesº
that they die;ººº
the damsel,º
becauseººº
she criedºº
not,º
[being] in the city;º
and the man,º
becauseººº
he hath humbledººº
his neighbour'sº
wife:º
so thou shalt put awayºº
evilº
from amongºº
you. |
 22:25 ¶
But if a man find in the field a damsel that is betrothed, and he should force her and lie with her, ye shall slay the man that lay with her only. |
|
 22:25 ¶
But ifº
a manº
findººº
a betrothedºº
damselº
in the field,º
and the manº
forceºº
her, and lieºº
withº
her: then the manº
onlyº
thatº
layºº
withº
her shall die:ºº |
 22:26
And the damsel has not [committed] a sin worthy of death; as if a man should rise up against his neighbour, and slay him, so [is] this thing; |
|
 22:26
But unto the damselº
thou shalt doºº
nothing;ºº
[there is] in the damselº
noº
sinº
[worthy] of death:º
forº
asº
when a manº
risethºº
againstº
his neighbour,º
and slayethºººº
him, even soº
[is] thisº
matter:º |
 22:27
because he found her in the field; the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to help her. |
|
 22:27
Forº
he foundºº
her in the field,º
[and] the betrothedºº
damselº
cried,ºº
and [there was] noneº
to saveºº
her. |
 22:28 ¶
And if any one should find a young virgin who has not been betrothed, and should force [her] and lie with her, and be found, |
|
 22:28 ¶
Ifº
a manº
findºº
a damselº
[that is] a virgin,º
whichº
is notº
betrothed,ºº
and lay holdºº
on her, and lieºº
withº
her, and they be found;ºº |
 22:29
the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the damsel fifty silver didrachms, and she shall be his wife, because he has humbled her; he shall never be able to put her away. |
|
 22:29
Then the manº
that layºº
withº
her shall giveºº
unto the damsel'sº
fatherº
fiftyº
[shekels] of silver,º
and she shall beº
his wife;º
becauseºº
he hath humbledºº
her, he mayºº
notº
put her awayºº
allº
his days.º |
 22:30 ¶
A man shall not take his father's wife, and shall not uncover his father's skirt. |
|
 22:30 ¶
A manº
shall notº
takeººº
his father'sº
wife,º
norº
discoverºº
his father'sº
skirt.º |
