 14:1 ¶ And all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried; and the people wept all that night.

 14:1 ¶ And allº the congregationº lifted upººº their voice,º and cried;ºº and the peopleº weptºº thatº night.º

 14:2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Mosheh{gr.Moses} and Aaron; and all the congregation said to them,

 14:2 And allº the childrenº of Israelº murmuredºº againstº Mosesº and againstº Aaron:º and the wholeº congregationº saidºº untoº them, Would Godº thatº we had diedºº in the landº of Egypt!º orº would Godº we had diedºº in thisº wilderness!º

 14:3 Would we had died in the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}! or in this wilderness, would we had died! and why does the Lord bring us into this land to fall in war? our wives and our children shall be for a prey: now then it is better to return into Mizraim{gr.Egypt}.

 14:3 And whereforeº hath Yahwehº broughtºº us untoº thisº land,º to fallºº by the sword,º that our wivesº and our childrenº should beº a prey?º were it notº betterº for us to returnºº into Egypt?º

 14:4 And they said one to another, Let us make a ruler, and return into Mizraim{gr.Egypt}.

 14:4 And they saidºº oneº toº another,º Let us makeºº a captain,º and let us returnºº into Egypt.º

 14:5 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} and Aaron fell upon their face before all the congregation of the children of Israel.

 14:5 Then Mosesº and Aaronº fellºº onº their facesº beforeº allº the assemblyº of the congregationº of the childrenº of Israel.º

 14:6 ¶ But Joshua{gr.Jesus} the [son] of Nun{gr.Naue}, and Caleb{gr.Chaleb} the [son] of Jephunneh{gr.Jephonne}, of [the number of] them that spied out the land, rent their garments,

 14:6 ¶ And Joshuaº the sonº of Nun,º and Calebº the sonº of Jephunneh,º [which were] ofº them that searchedººº the land,º rentºº their clothes:º

 14:7 and spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, The land which we surveyed is indeed extremely good.

 14:7 And they spakeºº untoº allº the companyº of the childrenº of Israel,º saying,ºº The land,º whichº we passedºº throughº to searchºº it, [is] an exceedingº goodº land.º

 14:8 If the Lord choose us, he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which flows with milk and honey.

 14:8 Ifº Yahwehº delightºº in us, then he will bringºº us intoº thisº land,º and giveºº it us; a landº whichº flowethºº with milkº and honey.º

 14:9 Only depart not from the Lord; and fear ye not the people of the land, for they are meat for us; for the season [of prosperity] is departed from them, but the Lord [is] among us: fear them not.

 14:9 Onlyº rebelºº notº ye against Yahweh,º neitherº fearºº yeºº the peopleº of the land;º forº theyº [are] breadº for us: their defenceº is departedºº fromºº them, and Yahwehº [is] withº us: fearºº them not.º

 14:10 And all the congregation bade stone them with stones; and the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud on the tabernacle of witness to all the children of Israel.

 14:10 But allº the congregationº badeºº stoneºº them with stones.º And the gloryº of Yahwehº appearedºº in the tabernacleº of the congregationº beforeº allº the childrenº of Israel.º

 14:11 ¶ And the Lord said to Mosheh{gr.Moses}, How long does this people provoke me? and how long do they refuse to believe me for all the signs which I have wrought among them?

 14:11 ¶ And Yahwehº saidºº untoº Moses,º How longºº will thisº peopleº provokeºº me? and how longºº will it be ereº they believeºº me, for allº the signsº whichº I have shewedºº amongº them?

 14:12 I will smite them with death, and destroy them; and I will make of thee and of thy father's house a great nation, and much greater than this.

 14:12 I will smiteºº them with the pestilence,º and disinheritºº them, and will makeºº of thee a greaterº nationº and mightierº thanº they.

 14:13 ¶ And Mosheh{gr.Moses} said to the Lord, So Mizraim{gr.Egypt} shall hear, for thou hast brought up this people from them by thy might.

 14:13 ¶ And Mosesº saidºº untoº Yahweh,º Then the Egyptiansº shall hearºº [it], (forº thou broughtest upººº thisº peopleº in thy mightº from amongºº them;)

 14:14 Moreover all the dwellers upon this land have heard that thou art Lord in the midst of this people, who, O Lord, art seen [by them] face to face, and thy cloud rests upon them, and thou goest before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, and by night in a pillar of fire.

 14:14 And they will tellºº [it] toº the inhabitantsºº of thisº land:º [for] they have heardºº thatº thouº Yahwehº [art] amongº thisº people,º thatº thouº Yahwehº art seenºº faceº to face,º and [that] thy cloudº standethºº overº them, and [that] thouº goestºº beforeº them, by day timeº in a pillarº of a cloud,º and in a pillarº of fireº by night.º

 14:15 ¶ And [if] thou shalt destroy this nation as one man; then all the nations that have heard thy name shall speak, saying,

 14:15 ¶ Now [if] thou shalt killºº [all]º thisº peopleº as oneº man,º then the nationsº whichº have heardººº the fameº of thee will speak,ºº saying,ºº

 14:16 Because the Lord could not bring this people into the land which he sware to them, he has overthrown them in the wilderness.

 14:16 Becauseºº Yahwehº was notº ableºº to bringººº thisº peopleº intoº the landº whichº he swareºº unto them, therefore he hath slainºº them in the wilderness.º

 14:17 And now, O Lord, let thy strength be exalted, as thou spakest, saying,

 14:17 And now,º I beseech thee,º let the powerº of Yahwehº be great,ºº accordingº asº thou hast spoken,ºº saying,ºº

 14:18 The Lord [is] long-suffering and merciful, and true, removing transgressions and iniquities and sins, and he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the sins of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation.

 14:18 Yahwehº [is] longsuffering,ºº and of greatº mercy,º forgivingºº iniquityº and transgression,º and by no meansºº clearingººº [the guilty], visitingºº the iniquityº of the fathersº uponº the childrenº untoº the thirdº and fourthº [generation].

 14:19 Forgive this people their sin according to thy great mercy, as thou wast favourable to them from Mizraim{gr.Egypt} until now.

 14:19 Pardon,ºº I beseech thee,º the iniquityº of thisº peopleº according unto the greatnessº of thy mercy,º and asº thou hast forgivenºº thisº people,º from Egyptºº even untilº now.º

 14:20 And the Lord said to Mosheh{gr.Moses}, I am gracious to them according to thy word.

 14:20 And Yahwehº said,ºº I have pardonedºº according to thy word:º

 14:21 But [as] I live and my name is living, so the glory of the Lord shall fill all the earth.

 14:21 But [as] trulyº [as] Iº live,ºº allº the earthº shall be filledºº with the gloryº of Yahweh.º

 14:22 For all the men who see my glory, and the signs which I wrought in Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, and in the wilderness, and have tempted me this tenth time, and have not hearkened to my voice,

 14:22 Becauseº allº those menºº which have seenººº my glory,º and my miracles,º whichº I didºº in Egyptº and in the wilderness,º and have temptedººº me now theseº tenº times,º and have notº hearkenedºº to my voice;º

 14:23 surely they shall not see the land, which I sware to their fathers; but their children which are with me here, as many as know not good or evil, every inexperienced youth, to them will I give the land; but none who have provoked me shall see it.

 14:23 Surelyº they shall notº seeººº the landº whichº I swareºº unto their fathers,º neitherº shall anyº of them that provokedºº me seeºº it:

 14:24 But my servant Caleb{gr.Chaleb}, because there was another spirit in him, and he followed me, I will bring him into the land into which he entered, and his seed shall inherit it.

 14:24 But my servantº Caleb,º becauseº he hadº anotherº spiritº withº him, and hath followedº me fully,ººº him will I bringºº intoº the landº whereintoºº he went;ºº and his seedº shall possessºº it.

 14:25 But Amalek{gr.Amalec} and the Canaanite{gr.Chananite} dwell in the valley: to-morrow turn and depart for the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.

 14:25 (Now the Amalekitesº and the Canaanitesº dweltºº in the valley.)º To morrowº turnºº you, and getºº you into the wildernessº by the wayº of the Redº sea.º

 14:26 ¶ And the Lord spoke to Mosheh{gr.Moses} and Aaron, saying,

 14:26 ¶ And Yahwehº spakeºº untoº Mosesº and untoº Aaron,º saying,ºº

 14:27 How long [shall I endure] this wicked congregation? I have heard their murmurings against me, [even] the murmuring of the children of Israel, which they have murmured concerning you.

 14:27 How longºº [shall I bear with] thisº evilº congregation,º whichº murmurºº againstº me? I have heardººº the murmuringsº of the childrenº of Israel,º whichº theyº murmurºº againstº me.

 14:28 Say to them, [As] I live, saith the Lord: surely as ye spoke into my ears, so will I do to you.

 14:28 Sayºº untoº them, [As truly as]º Iº live,º saithºº Yahweh,º asº ye have spokenºº in mine ears,º soº will I doºº to you:

 14:29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all those of you that were reviewed, and those of you that were numbered from twenty years old and upward, all that murmured against me,

 14:29 Your carcasesº shall fallºº in thisº wilderness;º and allº that were numberedºº of you, according to your wholeº number,º from twentyº yearsº oldºº and upward,º whichº have murmuredºº againstº me,

 14:30 ye shall not enter into the land for which I stretched out my hand to establish you upon it; except only Caleb{gr.Chaleb} the son of Jephunneh{gr.Jephonne}, and Joshua{gr.Jesus} the [son] of Nun{gr.Naue}.

 14:30 Doubtlessº yeº shall notº comeºº intoº the land,º [concerning] whichº I swareºººº to make you dwellºº therein, saveºº Calebº the sonº of Jephunneh,º and Joshuaº the sonº of Nun.º

 14:31 And your little ones, who ye said should be a prey, them will I bring into the land; and they shall inherit the land, which ye rejected.

 14:31 But your little ones,º whichº ye saidºº should beº a prey,º them will I bring in,ºº and they shall knowººº the landº whichº ye have despised.ºº

 14:32 And your carcases shall fall in this wilderness.

 14:32 But [as for] you,º your carcases,º they shall fallºº in thisº wilderness.º

 14:33 And your sons shall be fed in the wilderness forty years, and they shall bear your fornication, until your carcases be consumed in the wilderness.

 14:33 And your childrenº shall wanderººº in the wildernessº fortyº years,º and bearººº your whoredoms,º untilº your carcasesº be wastedºº in the wilderness.º

 14:34 According to the number of the days during which ye spied the land, forty days, a day for a year, ye shall bear your sins forty years, and ye shall know my fierce anger.

 14:34 After the numberº of the daysº in whichº ye searchedººº the land,º [even] fortyº days,º each dayº for a year,ºº shall ye bearººº your iniquities,º [even] fortyº years,º and ye shall knowººº my breach of promise.º

 14:35 I the Lord have spoken, Surely will I do thus to this evil congregation that has risen up together against me: in this wilderness they shall be utterly consumed, and there they shall die.

 14:35 Iº Yahwehº have said,ºº I will surelyºº doºº itº unto allº thisº evilº congregation,º that are gathered togetherºº againstº me: in thisº wildernessº they shall be consumed,ºº and thereº they shall die.ºº

 14:36 And the men whom Mosheh{gr.Moses} sent to spy out the land, and who came and murmured against it to the assembly so as to bring out evil words concerning the land,--

 14:36 And the men,ºº whichº Mosesº sentºº to searchººº the land,º who returned,ºº and madeº allº the congregationº to murmurºººº againstº him, by bringing upºº a slanderº uponº the land,º

 14:37 the men that spoke evil reports against the land, even died of the plague before the Lord.

 14:37 Even thoseº menºº that did bring upºº the evilº reportº upon the land,º diedºº by the plagueº beforeº Yahweh.º

 14:38 And Joshua{gr.Jesus} the son of Nun{gr.Naue} and Caleb{gr.Chaleb} the son of Jephunneh{gr.Jephonne} [still] lived of those men that went to spy out the land.

 14:38 But Joshuaº the sonº of Nun,º and Calebº the sonº of Jephunneh,º [which were] ofº the menººº that wentºº to searchººº the land,º livedºº [still].

 14:39 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} spoke these words to all the children of Israel; and the people mourned exceedingly.

 14:39 And Mosesº toldººº theseº sayingsº untoº allº the childrenº of Israel:º and the peopleº mournedºº greatly.º

 14:40 ¶ And they rose early in the morning and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, Behold, we that are here will go up to the place of which the Lord has spoken, because we have sinned.

 14:40 ¶ And they rose up earlyºº in the morning,º and gat them upºº intoº the topº of the mountain,º saying,ºº Lo,º we [be here], and will go upºº untoº the placeº whichº Yahwehº hath promised:ºº forº we have sinned.ºº

 14:41 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} said, Why do ye transgress the word of the Lord? ye shall not prosper.

 14:41 And Mosesº said,ºº Whereforeº nowº do yeº transgressººº the commandmentº of Yahweh?º but itº shall notº prosper.ºº

 14:42 Go not up, for the Lord is not with you; so shall ye fall before the face of your enemies.

 14:42 Go not up,ººº forº Yahwehº [is] notº amongº you; that ye be notº smittenºº beforeº your enemies.ºº

 14:43 For Amalek{gr.Amalec} and the Canaanite{gr.Chananite} [are] there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword; because ye have disobeyed the Lord and turned aside, and the Lord will not be among you.

 14:43 Forº the Amalekitesº and the Canaanitesº [are] thereº beforeº you, and ye shall fallºº by the sword:º becauseººº ye are turnedºº awayºº fromºº Yahweh,º therefore Yahwehº will notº beº withº you.

 14:44 And having forced their passage, they went up to the top of the mountain; but the ark of the covenant of the Lord and Mosheh{gr.Moses} stirred not out of the camp.

 14:44 But they presumedºº to go upºº untoº the hillº top:º nevertheless the arkº of the covenantº of Yahweh,º and Moses,º departedºº notº outº ofºº the camp.º

 14:45 And Amalek{gr.Amalec} and the Canaanite{gr.Chananite} that dwelt in that mountain came down, and routed them, and destroyed them unto Herman; and they returned to the camp.

 14:45 Then the Amalekitesº came down,ºº and the Canaanitesº which dweltºº in thatº hill,º and smoteºº them, and discomfitedºº them, [even] untoº Hormah.º
