 31:1 ¶ And the Lord spoke to Mosheh{gr.Moses}, saying,

 31:1 ¶ And Yahwehº spakeºº untoº Moses,º saying,ºº

 31:2 Avenge the wrongs of the children of Israel on the Midianites{gr.Madianites}, and afterwards thou shalt be added to thy people.

 31:2 Avengeººº the childrenº of Israelº ofºº the Midianites:º afterwardº shalt thou be gatheredºº untoº thy people.º

 31:3 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} spoke to the people, saying, Arm some of you, and set yourselves in array before the Lord against Midian{gr.Madian}, to inflict vengeance on Midian{gr.Madian} from the Lord.

 31:3 And Mosesº spakeºº untoº the people,º saying,ºº Armºº someºº of yourselvesºº unto the war,º and let them goº againstº the Midianites,º and avengeººº Yahwehº of Midian.º

 31:4 Send a thousand of each tribe from all the tribes of the children of Israel to set themselves in array.

 31:4 Of every tribeº a thousand,ºº throughout allº the tribesº of Israel,º shall ye sendºº to the war.º

 31:5 And they numbered of the thousands of Israel a thousand of [each] tribe, twelve thousands; [these were] armed for war.

 31:5 So there were deliveredºº out of the thousandsºº of Israel,º a thousandº of [every] tribe,º twelveºº thousandº armedºº for war.º

 31:6 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} sent them away a thousand of every tribe with their forces, and Phinehas{gr.Phinees} the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest: and the holy instruments, and the signal trumpets [were] in their hands.

 31:6 And Mosesº sentºº them to the war,º a thousandº of [every] tribe,º them and Phinehasº the sonº of Eleazarº the priest,º to the war,º with the holyº instruments,º and the trumpetsº to blowº in his hand.º

 31:7 And they set themselves in array against Midian{gr.Madian}, as the Lord commanded Mosheh{gr.Moses}; and they slew every male.

 31:7 And they warredºº againstº the Midianites,º asº Yahwehº commandedººº Moses;º and they slewºº allº the males.º

 31:8 And they slew the kings of Midian{gr.Madian} together with their slain [subjects]; even Evi and Rocon, and Shur{gr.Sur}, and Ur, and Roboc, five kings of Midian{gr.Madian}; and they slew with the sword Balaam the son of Beor with their [other] slain.

 31:8 And they slewºº the kingsº of Midian,º besideº the rest of them that were slain;º [namely],º Evi,º and Rekem,º and Zur,º and Hur,º and Reba,º fiveº kingsº of Midian:º Balaamº also the sonº of Beorº they slewºº with the sword.º

 31:9 And they made a prey of the women of Midian{gr.Madian}, and their store, and their cattle, and all their possessions: and they spoiled their forces.

 31:9 And the childrenº of Israelº took [all]º the womenº of Midianº captives,ºº and their little ones,º and took the spoilºº of allº their cattle,º and allº their flocks,º and allº their goods.º

 31:10 And they burnt with fire all their cities in the places of their habitation and they burnt their villages with fire.

 31:10 And they burntºº allº their citiesº wherein they dwelt,º and allº their goodly castles,º with fire.º

 31:11 And they took all their plunder, and all their spoils, both man and beast.

 31:11 And they tookººº allº the spoil,º and allº the prey,º [both] of menº and of beasts.º

 31:12 And they brought to Mosheh{gr.Moses} and to Eleazar the priest, and to all the children of Israel, the captives, and the spoils, and the plunder, to the camp to Araboth Moab, which is at Jordan by Jericho.

 31:12 And they broughtººº the captives,º and the prey,º and the spoil,º untoº Moses,º and Eleazarº the priest,º and untoº the congregationº of the childrenº of Israel,º untoº the campº atº the plainsº of Moab,º whichº [are] byº Jordanº [near] Jericho.º

 31:13 ¶ And Mosheh{gr.Moses} and Eleazar the priest and all the rulers of the synagogue went forth out of the camp to meet them.

 31:13 ¶ And Moses,º and Eleazarº the priest,º and allº the princesº of the congregation,º went forthºº to meetºº them withoutººº the camp.º

 31:14 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} was angry with the captains of the host, the heads of thousands and the heads of hundreds who came from the battle-array.

 31:14 And Mosesº was wrothºº withº the officersºº of the host,º [with] the captainsº over thousands,º and captainsº over hundreds,º which cameºº fromº the battle.ººº

 31:15 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} said to them, Why have ye saved every female alive?

 31:15 And Mosesº saidºº untoº them, Have ye savedºº all the womenº alive?ºººº

 31:16 For they were [the occasion] to the children of Israel by the word of Balaam of their revolting and despising the word of the Lord, because of Peor{gr.Phogor}; and there was a plague in the congregation of the Lord.

 31:16 Behold,º theseº causedºº the childrenº of Israel,º through the counselº of Balaam,º to commitºº trespassº against Yahwehº inº the matterº of Peor,º and there wasº a plagueº among the congregationº of Yahweh.º

 31:17 Now then slay every male in all the spoil, slay every woman, who has known the lying with man.

 31:17 Nowº therefore killºº everyº maleº among the little ones,º and killºº everyº womanº that hath knownºº manº by lyingº with him.º

 31:18 And as for all the captivity of women, who have not known the lying with man, save ye them alive.

 31:18 But allº the womenº children,º thatº have notº knownºº a manº by lyingº with him, keep aliveºº for yourselves.

 31:19 And ye shall encamp outside the [great] camp seven days; every one who has slain and who touches a dead body, shall be purified on the third day, and ye and your captivity [shall purify yourselves] on the seventh day.

 31:19 And do yeº abideºº withoutºº the campº sevenº days:º whosoeverº hath killedºº any person,º and whosoeverº hath touchedºº any slain,º purifyºº [both] yourselvesº and your captivesº on the thirdº day,º and on the seventhº day.º

 31:20 And ye shall purify every garment and every leathern utensil, and all furniture of goat skin, and every wooden vessel.

 31:20 And purifyºº allº [your] raiment,º and allº that is madeº of skins,º and allº workº of goats'º [hair], and allº thingsº madeº of wood.º

 31:21 ¶ And Eleazar the priest said to the men of the host that came from the battle-array, This [is] the ordinance of the law which the Lord has commanded Mosheh{gr.Moses}.

 31:21 ¶ And Eleazarº the priestº saidºº untoº the menºº of warº which wentºº to the battle,º Thisº [is] the ordinanceº of the lawº whichº Yahwehº commandedººº Moses;º

 31:22 Beside the gold, and the silver, and the brass, and the iron, and lead, and tin,

 31:22 Onlyºº the gold,º and the silver,ºº the brass,ºº the iron,ºº the tin,º and the lead,º

 31:23 every thing that shall pass through the fire shall so be clean, nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of sanctification; and whatsoever will not pass through the fire shall pass through water.

 31:23 Everyº thingº thatº may abideºº the fire,º ye shall make [it] goº throughºº the fire,º and it shall be clean:ºº neverthelessº it shall be purifiedºº with the waterº of separation:º and allº thatº abidethºº notº the fireº ye shall make goº throughºº the water.º

 31:24 And on the seventh day ye shall wash your garments, and be clean; and afterwards ye shall come into the camp.

 31:24 And ye shall washºº your clothesº on the seventhº day,º and ye shall be clean,ºº and afterwardº ye shall comeºº intoº the camp.º

 31:25 ¶ And the Lord spoke to Mosheh{gr.Moses}, saying,

 31:25 ¶ And Yahwehº spakeºº untoº Moses,º saying,ºº

 31:26 Take the sum of the spoils of the captivity both of man and beast, thou and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the families of the congregation.

 31:26 Takeººº the sumº of the preyº that was taken,º [both] of manº and of beast,º thou,º and Eleazarº the priest,º and the chiefº fathersº of the congregation:º

 31:27 And ye shall divide the spoils between the warriors that went out to battle, and the whole congregation.

 31:27 And divideººº the preyº into two parts;ºº betweenº them that tookºº the warº upon them, who went outºº to battle,º and betweenº allº the congregation:º

 31:28 And ye shall take a tribute for the Lord from the warriors that went out to battle; one soul out of five hundred, from the men, and from the cattle, even from the oxen, and from the sheep, and from the asses; and ye shall take from their half.

 31:28 And levyºº a tributeº unto Yahwehº ofºº the menºº of warº which went outºº to battle:º oneº soulº of fiveºº hundred,º [both] ofº the persons,º and ofº the beeves,º and ofº the asses,º and ofº the sheep:º

 31:29 And thou shalt give [them] to Eleazar the priest [as] the first-fruits of the Lord.

 31:29 Takeºº [it] of their half,ºº and giveºº it unto Eleazarº the priest,º [for] an heave offeringº of Yahweh.º

 31:30 And from the half belonging to the children of Israel thou shalt take one in fifty from the men, and from the oxen, and from the sheep, and from the asses, and from all the cattle; and thou shalt give them to the Levites that keep the charges in the tabernacle of the Lord.

 31:30 And of the childrenº of Israel'sº half,ºº thou shalt takeºº oneº portionºº ofº fifty,º ofº the persons,º ofº the beeves,º ofº the asses,º and ofº the flocks,º of all mannerºº of beasts,º and giveºº them unto the Levites,º which keepºº the chargeº of the tabernacleº of Yahweh.º

 31:31 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Mosheh{gr.Moses}.

 31:31 And Mosesº and Eleazarº the priestº didºº asº Yahwehº commandedººº Moses.º

 31:32 And that which remained of the spoil which the warriors took, was-- of the sheep, six hundred and seventy-five thousand:

 31:32 And the booty,º [being] the restº of the preyº whichº the menº ofº warº had caught,ºº wasº sixº hundredº thousandº and seventyº thousandº and fiveº thousandº sheep,º

 31:33 and oxen, seventy-two thousand:

 31:33 And threescore and twelveºº thousandº beeves,º

 31:34 and asses, sixty-one thousand.

 31:34 And threescoreº and oneº thousandº asses,º

 31:35 And persons of women who had not known lying with man, all the souls, thirty-two thousand.

 31:35 And thirtyº and twoº thousandº personsºº in all,ºº ofº womenº thatº had notº knownºº manº by lyingº withº him.º

 31:36 And the half, [even] the portion of them that went out to war, from the number of the sheep, was three hundred and thirty-seven thousand and five hundred.

 31:36 And the half,º [which was] the portionº of them that went outºº to war,º wasº in numberº threeº hundredº thousandº and sevenº and thirtyº thousandº and fiveº hundredº sheep:º

 31:37 And the tribute to the Lord from the sheep was six hundred and seventy-five.

 31:37 And Yahweh'sº tributeº ofº the sheepº wasº sixº hundredº and threescore and fifteen.ºº

 31:38 And the oxen, six and thirty thousand, and the tribute to the Lord seventy-two.

 31:38 And the beevesº [were] thirtyº and sixº thousand;º of which Yahweh'sº tributeº [was] threescore and twelve.ºº

 31:39 And asses, thirty thousand and five hundred, and the tribute to the Lord, sixty-one:

 31:39 And the assesº [were] thirtyº thousandº and fiveº hundred;º of which Yahweh'sº tributeº [was] threescoreº and one.º

 31:40 and the persons, sixteen thousand, and the tribute of them to the Lord, thirty-two souls.

 31:40 And the personsºº [were] sixteenºº thousand;º of which Yahweh'sº tributeº [was] thirtyº and twoº persons.º

 31:41 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} gave the tribute to the Lord, the heave-offering of God, to Eleazar the priest, as the Lord commanded Mosheh{gr.Moses};

 31:41 And Mosesº gaveººº the tribute,º [which was] Yahweh'sº heave offering,º unto Eleazarº the priest,º asº Yahwehº commandedººº Moses.º

 31:42 from the half belonging to the children of Israel, whom Mosheh{gr.Moses} separated from the men of war.

 31:42 And of the childrenº of Israel'sº half,ºº whichº Mosesº dividedºº fromº the menºº that warred,ºº

 31:43 And the half [taken] from the sheep, belonging to the congregation, was three hundred and thirty-seven thousand and five hundred.

 31:43 (Now the halfº [that pertained unto] the congregationº wasº threeº hundredº thousandº and thirtyº thousandº [and] sevenº thousandº and fiveº hundredº sheep,ºº

 31:44 And the oxen, thirty-six thousand;

 31:44 And thirtyº and sixº thousandº beeves,º

 31:45 asses, thirty thousand and five hundred;

 31:45 And thirtyº thousandº assesº and fiveº hundred,º

 31:46 and persons, sixteen thousand.

 31:46 And sixteenºº thousandº persons;)ºº

 31:47 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} took of the half belonging to the children of Israel the fiftieth part, of men and of cattle, and he gave them to the Levites who keep the charges of the tabernacle of the Lord, as the Lord commanded Mosheh{gr.Moses}.

 31:47 Even of the childrenº of Israel'sº half,ºº Mosesº tookºº oneºº portionºº ofº fifty,º [both] ofº manº and ofº beast,º and gaveºº them unto the Levites,º which keptºº the chargeº of the tabernacleº of Yahweh;º asº Yahwehº commandedººº Moses.º

 31:48 ¶ And all those who were appointed to be officers of thousands of the host, captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, approached Mosheh{gr.Moses}, and said to Mosheh{gr.Moses},

 31:48 ¶ And the officersºº whichº [were] over thousandsº of the host,º the captainsº of thousands,º and captainsº of hundreds,º came nearºº untoº Moses:º

 31:49 Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war with us, and not one is missing.

 31:49 And they saidºº untoº Moses,º Thy servantsº have takenººº the sumº of the menºº of warº whichº [are] under our charge,º and there lackethºº notº one manº ofº us.

 31:50 And we have brought our gift to the Lord, [every] man who has found an article of gold, whether an armlet, or a chain, or a ring, or a bracelet, or a clasp for hair, to make atonement for us before the Lord.

 31:50 We have therefore broughtººº an oblationº for Yahweh,º whatº every manº hath gotten,ºº of jewelsº of gold,º chains,º and bracelets,º rings,º earrings,º and tablets,º to make an atonementºº forº our soulsº beforeº Yahweh.º

 31:51 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} and Eleazar the priest took the gold from them, even every wrought article.

 31:51 And Mosesº and Eleazarº the priestº tookººº the goldº ofºº them, [even] allº wroughtº jewels.º

 31:52 And all the wrought gold, even the offering that they offered to the Lord, was sixteen thousand and seven hundred and fifty shekels from the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds.

 31:52 And allº the goldº of the offeringº thatº they offered upºº to Yahweh,º ofºº the captainsº of thousands,º and ofºº the captainsº of hundreds,º wasº sixteenºº thousandº sevenº hundredº and fiftyº shekels.º

 31:53 For the men of war took plunder every one for himself.

 31:53 ([For] the menºº of warº had taken spoil,ºº every manº for himself.)

 31:54 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} and Eleazar the priest took the gold from the captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and brought the vessels into the tabernacle of witness, a memorial of the children of Israel before the Lord.

 31:54 And Mosesº and Eleazarº the priestº tookººº the goldº ofºº the captainsº of thousandsº and of hundreds,º and broughtºº it intoº the tabernacleº of the congregation,º [for] a memorialº for the childrenº of Israelº beforeº Yahweh.º
