 19:1 ¶
Moreover do thou take up a lamentation for the prince of Israel, |
|
 19:1 ¶
Moreover take thou upººº
a lamentationº
forº
the princesº
of Israel,º |
 19:2
and say, Why is thy mother become a whelp in the midst of lions? in the midst of lions she has multiplied her whelps. |
 19:2
And say,ºº
Whatº
[is] thy mother?º
A lioness:º
she lay downºº
amongº
lions,º
she nourishedºº
her whelpsº
amongº
young lions.º |
 19:3
And one of her whelps sprang forth; he became a lion, and learned to take prey, he devoured men. |
 19:3
And she brought upºº
oneº
of her whelps:ºº
it becameº
a young lion,º
and it learnedºº
to catchºº
the prey;º
it devouredºº
men.º |
 19:4
And the nations heard a report of him; he was caught in their pit, and they brought him into the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt} in chains. |
 19:4
The nationsº
also heardºº
ofº
him; he was takenºº
in their pit,º
and they broughtºº
him with chainsº
untoº
the landº
of Egypt.º |
 19:5
And she saw that he was driven away from her, [and] her hope [of him] perished, and she took another of her whelps; she made him a lion. |
 19:5
Now when she sawºº
thatº
she had waited,ºº
[and] her hopeº
was lost,ºº
then she tookºº
anotherº
of her whelps,ºº
[and] madeºº
him a young lion.º |
 19:6
And he went up and down in the midst of lions, he became a lion, and learned to take prey, he devoured men. |
 19:6
And he went up and downºº
amongº
the lions,º
he becameº
a young lion,º
and learnedºº
to catchºº
the prey,º
[and] devouredºº
men.º |
 19:7
And he prowled in his boldness and laid waste their cities, and made the land desolate, and the fullness of it, by the voice of his roaring. |
 19:7
And he knewºº
their desolate palaces,ºº
and he laid wasteºº
their cities;º
and the landº
was desolate,ºº
and the fulnessº
thereof, by the noiseºº
of his roaring.º |
 19:8
Then the nations set upon him from the countries round about, and they spread their nets upon him: he was taken in their pit. |
 19:8
Then the nationsº
setºº
againstº
him on every sideº
from the provinces,ºº
and spreadºº
their netº
overº
him: he was takenºº
in their pit.º |
 19:9
And they put him in chains and in a cage, [and] he came to the king of Babylon; and he cast him into prison, that his voice should not be heard on the mountains of Israel. |
 19:9
And they putºº
him in wardº
in chains,º
and broughtºº
him toº
the kingº
of Babylon:º
they broughtºº
him into holds,ºº
thatº
his voiceº
should noº
moreº
be heardºº
uponº
the mountainsº
of Israel.º |
 19:10 ¶
Thy mother was as a vine and as a blossom on a pomegranate tree, planted by water: her fruit and her shoot abounded by reason of much water. |
 19:10 ¶
Thy motherº
[is] like a vineº
in thy blood,ºº
plantedºº
byº
the waters:º
she wasº
fruitfulºº
and full of branchesº
by reason of manyº
waters.ºº |
 19:11
And she became a rod for a tribe of princes, and was elevated in her bulk in the midst of [other] trees, and she saw her bulk in the multitude of her branches. |
 19:11
And she hadº
strongº
rodsº
forº
the sceptresº
of them that bare rule,ºº
and her statureº
was exaltedºº
amongºº
the thick branches,º
and she appearedºº
in her heightº
with the multitudeº
of her branches.º |
 19:12
But she was broken down in wrath, she was cast upon the ground, and the east wind dried up her choice [branches]: vengeance came upon them, and the rod of her strength was withered; fire consumed it. |
 19:12
But she was plucked upºº
in fury,º
she was cast downºº
to the ground,º
and the eastº
windº
dried upºº
her fruit:º
her strongº
rodsº
were brokenºº
and withered;ºº
the fireº
consumedºº
them. |
 19:13
And now they have planted her in the wilderness, in a dry land. |
 19:13
And nowº
she [is] plantedºº
in the wilderness,º
in a dryº
and thirstyº
ground.º |
 19:14
And fire is gone out of a rod of her choice [boughs], and has devoured her; and there was no rod of strength in her. Her race is become a parable of lamentation, and it shall be for a lamentation. |
 19:14
And fireº
is gone outºº
of a rodºº
of her branches,º
[which] hath devouredºº
her fruit,º
so that she hathº
noº
strongº
rodº
[to be] a sceptreº
to rule.ºº
Thisº
[is] a lamentation,º
and shall beº
for a lamentation.º |
