after their journeys,º

the commandmentº

יָהוֶה,º
and pitchedºº
in
Ræfîðîm
רְפִידִים:º
and [there was] noº
waterº
for the peopleº
to drink.ºº |

17:1 ¶
And all the congregation of the children of Yisrael journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of Yahweh, and pitched in Refidim: and [there was] no water for the people to drink. |

17:2
Wherefore the peopleº
did chideºº
withº
Möšè
מֹשֶׁה,º
and said,ºº
Giveºº
us waterº
that we may drink.ºº
And
Möšè
מֹשֶׁהº
saidºº
unto them, Whyº
chideºº
ye withº
me? whereforeº
do ye temptººº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה?º |

17:2
Wherefore the people did chide with Mosheh, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Mosheh said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt Yahweh? |

17:3
And the peopleº
thirstedºº
thereº
for water;º
and the peopleº
murmuredºº
againstº
Möšè
מֹשֶׁה,º
and said,ºº
Whereforeº
[is] thisº
[that] thou hast broughtºº
us upº
out of
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִם,ºº
to killºº
us and our childrenº
and our cattleº
with thirst?º |

And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Mosheh, and said, Wherefore [is] this [that] thou hast brought us up out of Mitzrayim, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst? |

17:4
And

Whatº
shall I doºº
unto thisº
people?º
they be almostº
readyº
to stoneºº

And Mosheh cried unto Yahweh, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me. |

And

מֹשֶׁה,º
Go onºº
beforeº
the people,º
and takeºº
withº
thee of the eldersºº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל;º
and thy rod,º
wherewithº
thou smotestººº
the river,º
takeºº
in thine hand,º
and go.ºº |

And Yahweh said unto Mosheh, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Yisrael; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go. |

17:6
Behold,º
I will standºº
beforeº
thee thereº
uponº
the rockº
in
Çörëv
חֹרֵב;º
and thou shalt smiteºº
the rock,º
and there shall comeºº
waterº
out ofº
it, that the peopleº
may drink.ºº
And

didºº
soº
in the sightº
of the eldersº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.º |

17:6
Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Chorev; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Mosheh did so in the sight of the elders of Yisrael. |

17:7
And he calledºº
the nameº
of the placeº
Massà
מַסָּה,º
and
Mærîvà
מְרִיבָה,º
because ofº
the chidingº
of the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
and becauseº
they temptedººº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
saying,ºº
Isº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
amongº
us, orº
not?º |

17:7
And he called the name of the place Massah, and Merivah, because of the chiding of the children of Yisrael, and because they tempted Yahweh, saying, Is Yahweh among us, or not? |
|
17:8 ¶
Then cameºº
`Ámälëk
עֲמָלֵק,º
and foughtºº
withº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
in
Ræfîðîm
רְפִידִים.º |

17:8 ¶
Then came Amaleq, and fought with Yisrael in Refidim. |
|
17:9
And
Möšè
מֹשֶׁהº
saidºº
untoº
Yæhôšuå`
יְהוֹשֻׁעַ,º
Choose us outºº
men,ºº
and go out,ºº
fightºº
with
`Ámälëk
עֲמָלֵק:º
to morrowº
Iº
will standºº
onº
the topº
of the hillº
with the rodº
of
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
in mine hand.º |

17:9
And Mosheh said unto Yehoshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amaleq: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of Elohim in mine hand. |
|
17:10
So

had saidºº
to him, and foughtºº
with
`Ámälëk
עֲמָלֵק:º
and
Möšè

went upºº
to the topº
of the hill.º |

17:10
So Yehoshua did as Mosheh had said to him, and fought with Amaleq: and Mosheh, Aharon, and Chur went up to the top of the hill. |
|
17:11
And it came to pass,º
whenº
Möšè
מֹשֶׁהº
held upºº
his hand,º
that
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
prevailed:ºº
and whenº
he let downºº
his hand,º
`Ámälëk
עֲמָלֵקº
prevailed.ºº |

And it came to pass, when Mosheh held up his hand, that Yisrael prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amaleq prevailed. |
|
17:12
But
Möšè's
מֹשֶׁהº
handsº
[were] heavy;º
and they tookºº
a stone,º
and putºº
[it] underº
him, and he satºº
thereon;º
and
´Ahárön
אַהֲרֹןº
and
Çûr
חוּרº
stayed upºº
his hands,º
the oneº
on the one side,ººº
and the otherº
on the other side;ººº
and his handsº
wereº
steadyº
untilº
the going downºº
of the sun.º |

17:12
But Mosheh's hands [were] heavy; and they took a stone, and put [it] under him, and he sat thereon; and Aharon and Chur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. |
|
17:13
And

discomfitedººº

עֲמָלֵקº
and his peopleº
with the edgeº
of the sword.º |

And Yehoshua discomfited Amaleq and his people with the edge of the sword. |

17:14
And

saidºº
untoº

מֹשֶׁה,º
Writeºº
thisº
[for] a memorialº
in a book,º
and rehearseºº
[it] in the earsº
of
Yæhôšuå`
יְהוֹשֻׁעַ:º
forº
I will utterlyºº
put outººº
the remembranceº
of
`Ámälëk
עֲמָלֵקº
from underºº
heaven.º |

17:14
And Yahweh said unto Mosheh, Write this [for] a memorial in a book, and rehearse [it] in the ears of Yehoshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amaleq from under heaven. |
|
17:15
And

an altar,º
and calledºº
the nameº
of it
Yähwè
יָהוֶה
Nissî
נִסִּי:º |

17:15
And Mosheh built an altar, and called the name of it Yahweh Nissi: |

17:16
For he said,ºº
Becauseº
Yäh
יָהº
hath swornººº
[that]
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
[will have] warº
with
`Ámälëk
עֲמָלֵקº
from generationºº
to generation.º |

17:16
For he said, Because Yah hath sworn [that] Yahweh [will have] war with Amaleq from generation to generation. |
