 5:1 ¶ And afterwardº Möšè מֹשֶׁהº and ´Ahárön אַהֲרֹןº went in,ºº and toldººº Par`ò פַּרעֹה,º Thusº saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º Letº my peopleº go,ºº that they may hold a feastºº unto me in the wilderness.º

 5:1 ¶ And afterward Mosheh and Aharon went in, and told Paroh, Thus saith Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.

 5:2 And Par`ò פַּרעֹהº said,ºº Whoº [is] Yähwè יָהוֶה,º thatº I should obeyºº his voiceº to letº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº go?ºº I knowºº notºº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º neitherºº will I letº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº go.ºº

 5:2 And Paroh said, Who [is] Yahweh, that I should obey his voice to let Yisrael go? I know not Yahweh, neither will I let Yisrael go.

 5:3 And they said,ºº The ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº of the `Ivrîm עִברִיםº hath metºº withº us: let us go,ººº we pray thee,º threeº days'º journeyº into the desert,º and sacrificeºº unto Yähwè יָהוֶהº our ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים;º lestº he fallºº uponº us with pestilence,º orº with the sword.º

 5:3 And they said, The Elohim of the Ivrim hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto Yahweh our Elohim; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

 5:4 And the kingº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִםº saidºº untoº them, Whereforeº do ye, Möšè מֹשֶׁהº and ´Ahárön אַהֲרֹן,º letººº the peopleº from their works?ºº getººº you unto your burdens.º

 5:4 And the king of Mitzrayim said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Mosheh and Aharon, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.

 5:5 And Par`ò פַּרעֹהº said,ºº Behold,º the peopleº of the landº nowº [are] many,º and ye make them restººº from their burdens.ºº

 5:5 And Paroh said, Behold, the people of the land now [are] many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.

 5:6 And Par`ò פַּרעֹהº commandedºº the sameº dayºº the taskmastersºº of the people,º and their officers,ºº saying,ºº

 5:6 And Paroh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,

 5:7 Ye shall noº moreºº giveºº the peopleº strawº to makeºº brick,º as heretofore:ºº let themº goººº and gatherºº strawº for themselves.

 5:7 Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.

 5:8 And the taleº of the bricks,º whichº theyº did makeºº heretofore,ºº ye shall layºº uponº them; ye shall notº diminishºº [ought] thereof:º forº theyº [be] idle;ºº thereforeºº theyº cry,ºº saying,ºº Let us goººº [and] sacrificeºº to our ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים.º

 5:8 And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish [ought] thereof: for they [be] idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go [and] sacrifice to our Elohim.

 5:9 Let there more workº be laidººº uponº the men,ºº that they may labourºº therein; and let them notº regardºº vainº words.º

 5:9 Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.

 5:10 ¶ And the taskmastersºº of the peopleº went out,ºº and their officers,ºº and they spakeºº toº the people,º saying,ºº Thusº saithºº Par`ò פַּרעֹה,º I will notº giveºº you straw.º

 5:10 ¶ And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Paroh, I will not give you straw.

 5:11 Goººº ye,º getºº you strawº whereºº ye can findºº it: yetº notº oughtº of your workºº shall be diminished.ºº

 5:11 Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.

 5:12 So the peopleº were scattered abroadºº throughout allº the landº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִםº to gatherºº stubbleº instead of straw.º

 5:12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Mitzrayim to gather stubble instead of straw.

 5:13 And the taskmastersºº hastedºº [them], saying,ºº Fulfilºº your works,º [your] dailyº tasks,º as whenº there wasºº straw.º

 5:13 And the taskmasters hasted [them], saying, Fulfil your works, [your] daily tasks, as when there was straw.

 5:14 And the officersºº of the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º whichº Par`ò's פַּרעֹהº taskmastersºº had setºº overº them, were beaten,ºº [and] demanded,ºº Whereforeº have ye notº fulfilledºº your taskº in making brickºº bothº yesterdayº andº to day,º as heretofore?ºº

 5:14 And the officers of the children of Yisrael, which Paroh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, [and] demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?

 5:15 ¶ Then the officersºº of the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº cameºº and criedºº untoº Par`ò פַּרעֹה,º saying,ºº Whereforeº dealestºº thou thusº with thy servants?º

 5:15 ¶ Then the officers of the children of Yisrael came and cried unto Paroh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?

 5:16 There is noº strawº givenºº unto thy servants,º and they sayºº to us, Makeºº brick:º and, behold,º thy servantsº [are] beaten;ºº but the faultºº [is] in thine own people.º

 5:16 There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants [are] beaten; but the fault [is] in thine own people.

 5:17 But he said,ºº Yeº [are] idle,ºº [ye are] idle:ºº thereforeºº yeº say,ºº Let us goººº [and] do sacrificeºº to Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 5:17 But he said, Ye [are] idle, [ye are] idle: therefore ye say, Let us go [and] do sacrifice to Yahweh.

 5:18 Goººº therefore now,º [and] work;ºº for there shall noº strawº be givenºº you, yet shall ye deliverºº the taleº of bricks.º

 5:18 Go therefore now, [and] work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.

 5:19 And the officersºº of the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº did seeºº [that] they [were] in evilº [case], after it was said,ºº Ye shall notº minishºº [ought] from your bricksºº of your dailyº task.º

 5:19 And the officers of the children of Yisrael did see [that] they [were] in evil [case], after it was said, Ye shall not minish [ought] from your bricks of your daily task.

 5:20 ¶ And they metººº Möšè מֹשֶׁהº and ´Ahárön אַהֲרֹן,º who stoodºº in the way,ºº as they came forthºº fromºº Par`ò פַּרעֹה:º

 5:20 ¶ And they met Mosheh and Aharon, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Paroh:

 5:21 And they saidºº untoº them, Yähwè יָהוֶהº lookºº uponº you, and judge;ºº becauseº ye have madeº our savourº to be abhorredºº in the eyesº of Par`ò פַּרעֹה,º and in the eyesº of his servants,º to putºº a swordº in their handº to slayºº us.

 5:21 And they said unto them, Yahweh look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Paroh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

 5:22 And Möšè מֹשֶׁהº returnedºº untoº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º and said,ºº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º whereforeº hast thou [so] evil entreatedºº thisº people?º whyº [is] itº [that] thou hast sentºº me?

 5:22 And Mosheh returned unto Yahweh, and said, Yahweh, wherefore hast thou [so] evil entreated this people? why [is] it [that] thou hast sent me?

 5:23 For sinceºº I cameºº toº Par`ò פַּרעֹהº to speakºº in thy name,º he hath done evilºº to thisº people;º neitherº hast thou deliveredººº thy peopleº at all.ºº

 5:23 For since I came to Paroh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.
