Job 31

Job maketh a solemn protestation of his integrity in several duties.

 31:1 “I have made 3772 a covenant 1285 with my eyes 5869; How 4100 then could I gaze 995 at a virgin 1330?

 31:2 “And what 4100 is the portion 2506 of God 433 from above 4605 Or the heritage 5159 of the Almighty 7706b from on high 4791?

 31:3 “Is it not calamity 343 to the unjust 5767a And disaster 5235b to those who work 6466 iniquity 205?

 31:4 “Does He not see 7200 my ways 1870 And number 5608 all 3605 my steps 6806?

 31:5 ¶ “If 518 I have walked 1980 with falsehood 7723, And my foot 7272 has hastened 2363a after 5921 deceit 4820,

 31:6 Let Him weigh 8254 me with accurate 6664 scales 3976, And let God 433 know 3045 my integrity 8538.

 31:7 “If 518 my step 838 has turned 5186 from the way 1870, Or my heart 3820 followed 310 1980 my eyes 5869, Or if any spot 3971 has stuck 1692 to my hands 3709,

 31:8 Let me sow 2232 and another 312 eat 398, And let my crops 6631 be uprooted 8327.

 31:9 ¶ “If 518 my heart 3820 has been enticed 6601b by a woman 802, Or I have lurked 693 at my neighbor’s 7453 doorway 6607,

 31:10 May my wife 802 grind 2912 for another 312, And let others 312 kneel 3766 down 3766 over 5921 her.

 31:11 “For that would be a lustful 2154 crime 2154; Moreover, it would be an iniquity 5771 [punishable by] judges 6414.

 31:12 “For it would be fire 784 that consumes 398 to Abaddon 11, And would uproot 8327 all 3605 my increase 8393.

 31:13 ¶ “If 518 I have despised 3988a the claim 4941 of my male 5650 or female 519 slaves 519 5650 When they filed 7378 a complaint 7379 against 5973 me,

 31:14 What 4100 then could I do 6213a when 3588 God 410 arises 6965? And when 3588 He calls 6485 me to account 6485, what 4100 will I answer 7725 Him?

 31:15 “Did not He who made 6213a me in the womb 990 make 6213a him, And the same 259 one 259 fashion 3559 us in the womb 990?

 31:16 ¶ “If 518 I have kept 4513 the poor 1800b from [their] desire 2656, Or have caused the eyes 5869 of the widow 490 to fail 3615,

 31:17 Or have eaten 398 my morsel 6595 alone 905, And the orphan 3490 has not shared 398 4480 it

 31:18 (But from my youth 5271 he grew 1431 up with me as with a father 1, And from infancy 517 990 I guided 5148 her),

 31:19 If 518 I have seen 7200 anyone perish 6 for lack 1097 of clothing 3830, Or that the needy 34 had 369 no 369 covering 3682,

 31:20 If 518 his loins 2504 have not thanked 1288 me, And if he has not been warmed 2552 with the fleece 1488 of my sheep 3532,

 31:21 If 518 I have lifted 5130 up my hand 3027 against 5921 the orphan 3490, Because 3588 I saw 7200 I had support 5833 in the gate 8179,

 31:22 Let my shoulder 3802 fall 5307 from the socket 7926, And my arm 248 be broken 7665 off 7665 at the elbow 7070.

 31:23 “For calamity 343 from God 410 is a terror 6343 to me, And because 4480 of His majesty 7613 I can 3201 do 3201 nothing 3808.

 31:24 ¶ “If 518 I have put 7760 my confidence 3689 [in] gold 2091, And called 559 fine 3800 gold 3800 my trust 4009,

 31:25 If 518 I have gloated 8055 because 3588 my wealth 2428 was great 7227a, And because 3588 my hand 3027 had secured 4672 [so] much 3524;

 31:26 If 518 I have looked 7200 at the sun 216 when 3588 it shone 1984a Or the moon 3394 going 1980 in splendor 3368,

 31:27 And my heart 3820 became 6601b secretly 5643a enticed 6601b, And my hand 3027 threw 5401a a kiss 5401a from my mouth 6310,

 31:28 That too 1571 would have been an iniquity 5771 [calling for] judgment 6416, For I would have denied 3584 God 410 above 4480 4605.

 31:29 ¶ “Have I rejoiced 8055 at the extinction 6365 of my enemy 8130, Or exulted 5782 when 3588 evil 7451b befell 4672 him?

 31:30 “No 3808, I have not allowed 5414 my mouth 2441 to sin 2398 By asking 7592 for his life 5315 in a curse 423.

 31:31 “Have the men 4962 of my tent 168 not said 559, ‘Who 4310 can find 5414 one who has not been satisfied 7646 with his meat 1320’?

 31:32 “The alien 1616 has not lodged 3885a outside 2351, [For] I have opened 6605a my doors 1817 to the traveler 734.

 31:33 “Have I covered 3680 my transgressions 6588 like Adam 121, By hiding 2934 my iniquity 5771 in my bosom 2243,

 31:34 Because 3588 I feared 6206 the great 7227a multitude 1995, And the contempt 937 of families 4940 terrified 2865 me, And kept 1826a silent 1826a and did not go 3318 out of doors 6607?

 31:35 “Oh 4310 5414 that I had 5414 one to hear 8085 me! Behold 2005, here 2005 is my signature 8420a; Let the Almighty 7706b answer 6030a me! And the indictment 5612 which my adversary 7379 has written 3789,

 31:36 Surely 518 3808 I would carry 5375 it on my shoulder 7926, I would bind 6029 it to myself like a crown 5850.

 31:37 “I would declare 5608 to Him the number 4557 of my steps 6806; Like 3644 a prince 5057 I would approach 7126 Him.

 31:38 ¶ “If 518 my land 127 cries 2199 out against 5921 me, And its furrows 8525 weep 1058 together 3162;

 31:39 If 518 I have eaten 398 its fruit 3581b without 1097 money 3701, Or have caused its owners 1167 to lose 5301 their lives 5315,

 31:40 Let briars 2336 grow 3318 instead 8478 of wheat 2406, And stinkweed 890 instead 8478 of barley 8184.” The words 1697 of Job 347 are ended 8552.
