 13:1 ¶ Thus saith Jehovah unto me, Go, and buy thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

 13:1 ¶ Thusº saithºº the LORDº untoº me, Goºº and getºº thee a linenº girdle,º and putºº it uponº thy loins,º and putºº it notº in water.º

 13:2 So I bought a girdle according to the word of Jehovah, and put it upon my loins.

 13:2 So I gotººº a girdleº according to the wordº of the LORD,º and putºº [it] onº my loins.º

 13:3 And the word of Jehovah came unto me the second time, saying,

 13:3 And the wordº of the LORDº cameº untoº me the second time,º saying,ºº

 13:4 Take the girdle that thou hast bought, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock.

 13:4 Takeººº the girdleº thatº thou hast got,ºº whichº [is] uponº thy loins,º and arise,ºº goººº to Euphrates,º and hideºº it thereº in a holeº of the rock.º

 13:5 So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as Jehovah commanded me.

 13:5 So I went,ººº and hidºº it by Euphrates,º asº the LORDº commandedºº me.

 13:6 And it came to pass after many days, that Jehovah said unto me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

 13:6 And it came to passº afterºº manyº days,º that the LORDº saidºº untoº me, Arise,ºº goººº to Euphrates,º and takeººº the girdleº from thence,ºº whichº I commandedºº thee to hideºº there.º

 13:7 Then I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

 13:7 Then I wentººº to Euphrates,º and digged,ºº and tookººº the girdleº fromº the placeº whereºº I had hidºº it: and, behold,º the girdleº was marred,ºº it was profitableºº for nothing.ºº

 13:8 Then the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

 13:8 Then the wordº of the LORDº cameº untoº me, saying,ºº

 13:9 Thus saith Jehovah, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

 13:9 Thusº saithºº the LORD,º After this mannerº will I marºº the prideº of Judah,º and the greatº prideº of Jerusalem.º

 13:10 This evil people, that refuse to hear my words, that walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and are gone after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is profitable for nothing.

 13:10 Thisº evilº people,º which refuseº to hearººº my words,º which walkºº in the imaginationº of their heart,º and walkººº afterº otherº gods,º to serveºº them, and to worshipºº them, shall even beº as thisº girdle,º whichº is goodºº for nothing.ºº

 13:11 For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith Jehovah; that they may be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

 13:11 Forº asº the girdleº cleavethºº toº the loinsº of a man,º soº have I caused to cleaveºº untoº meº the wholeº houseº of Israelº and the wholeº houseº of Judah,º saithºº the LORD;º that they might beº unto me for a people,º and for a name,º and for a praise,º and for a glory:º but they would notº hear.ºº

 13:12 ¶ Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word: Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

 13:12 ¶ Therefore thou shalt speakºº untoº themº thisº word;º Thusº saithºº the LORDº Godº of Israel,º Everyº bottleº shall be filledºº with wine:º and they shall sayºº untoº thee, Do we notº certainlyºº knowºº thatº everyº bottleº shall be filledºº with wine?º

 13:13 Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

 13:13 Then shalt thou sayºº untoº them, Thusº saithºº the LORD,º Behold,º I will fillººº allº the inhabitantsºº of thisº land,º even the kingsº that sitºº uponº David'sº throne,º and the priests,º and the prophets,º and allº the inhabitantsºº of Jerusalem,º with drunkenness.º

 13:14 And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith Jehovah: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have compassion, that I should not destroy them.

 13:14 And I will dashºº them oneº againstº another,º even the fathersº and the sonsº together,º saithºº the LORD:º I will notº pity,ºº norº spare,ºº norº have mercy,ºº but destroyººº them.

 13:15 ¶ Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud; for Jehovah hath spoken.

 13:15 ¶ Hearºº ye, and give ear;ºº be notº proud:ºº forº the LORDº hath spoken.ºº

 13:16 Give glory to Jehovah your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

 13:16 Giveºº gloryº to the LORDº your God,º beforeº he cause darkness,ºº and beforeº your feetº stumbleºº uponº the darkº mountains,º and, while ye lookºº for light,º he turnºº it into the shadow of death,º [and] makeºººº [it] gross darkness.º

 13:17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret for [your] pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because Jehovah's flock is taken captive.

 13:17 But ifº ye will notº hearºº it, my soulº shall weepºº in secret placesº forºº [your] pride;º and mine eyeº shall weepºº sore,ºº and run downºº with tears,º becauseº the LORD'Sº flockº is carried away captive.ºº

 13:18 Say thou unto the king and to the queen-mother, Humble yourselves, sit down; for your headtires are come down, even the crown of your glory.

 13:18 Sayºº unto the kingº and to the queen,º Humbleºº yourselves,º sit down:ºº forº your principalitiesº shall come down,ºº [even] the crownº of your glory.º

 13:19 The cities of the South are shut up, and there is none to open them: Judah is carried away captive, all of it; it is wholly carried away captive.

 13:19 The citiesº of the southº shall be shut up,ºº and noneº shall openºº [them]: Judahº shall be carried away captiveºº allº of it, it shall be whollyº carried away captive.ºº

 13:20 Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

 13:20 Lift upºº your eyes,º and beholdºº them that comeºº from the north:ºº whereº [is] the flockº [that] was givenºº thee, thy beautifulº flock?º

 13:21 What wilt thou say, when he shall set over thee as head those whom thou hast thyself taught to be friends to thee? shall not sorrows take hold of thee, as of a woman in travail?

 13:21 Whatº wilt thou sayºº whenº he shall punishººº thee? for thouº hast taughtºº them [to be] captains,º [and] as chiefº overº thee: shall notº sorrowsº takeºº thee, asº a womanº in travail?ºº

 13:22 ¶ And if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore are these things come upon me? for the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts uncovered, and thy heels suffer violence.

 13:22 ¶ And ifº thou sayºº in thine heart,º Whereforeº comeºº these thingsº upon me? For the greatnessº of thine iniquityº are thy skirtsº discovered,ºº [and] thy heelsº made bare.ºº

 13:23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

 13:23 Can the Ethiopianº changeºº his skin,º or the leopardº his spots?º [then] mayºº yeº alsoº do good,ºº that are accustomedº to do evil.ºº

 13:24 Therefore will I scatter them, as the stubble that passeth away, by the wind of the wilderness.

 13:24 Therefore will I scatterºº them as the stubbleº that passeth awayºº by the windº of the wilderness.º

 13:25 This is thy lot, the portion measured unto thee from me, saith Jehovah; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

 13:25 Thisº [is] thy lot,º the portionº of thy measuresº fromºº me, saithºº the LORD;º becauseº thou hast forgottenºº me, and trustedºº in falsehood.º

 13:26 Therefore will I also uncover thy skirts upon thy face, and thy shame shall appear.

 13:26 Thereforeº will Iº discoverºº thy skirtsº uponº thy face,º that thy shameº may appear.ºº

 13:27 I have seen thine abominations, even thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, on the hills in the field. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! thou wilt not be made clean; how long shall it yet be?

 13:27 I have seenºº thine adulteries,º and thy neighings,º the lewdnessº of thy whoredom,º [and] thine abominationsº onº the hillsº in the fields.º Woeº unto thee, O Jerusalem!º wilt thou notº be made clean?ºº whenº [shall it] onceºº [be]?
