 8:1 ¶
At that time, saith Jehovah, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves; |
|
 8:1 ¶
At thatº
time,º
saithºº
the LORD,º
they shall bring outººº
the bonesº
of the kingsº
of Judah,º
and the bonesº
of his princes,º
and the bonesº
of the priests,º
and the bonesº
of the prophets,º
and the bonesº
of the inhabitantsºº
of Jerusalem,º
out of their graves:ºº |
 8:2
and they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, which they have loved, and which they have served, and after which they have walked, and which they have sought, and which they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried, they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth. |
|
 8:2
And they shall spreadºº
them before the sun,º
and the moon,º
and allº
the hostº
of heaven,º
whomº
they have loved,ºº
and whomº
they have served,ºº
and afterº
whomº
they have walked,ºº
and whomº
they have sought,ºº
and whomº
they have worshipped:ºº
they shall notº
be gathered,ºº
norº
be buried;ºº
they shall beº
for dungº
uponº
the faceº
of the earth.º |
 8:3
And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue that remain of this evil family, that remain in all the places whither I have driven them, saith Jehovah of hosts. |
|
 8:3
And deathº
shall be chosenºº
rather than lifeºº
by allº
the residueº
of them that remainºº
ofº
thisº
evilº
family,º
which remainºº
in allº
the placesº
whitherºº
I have drivenºº
them, saithºº
the LORDº
of hosts.º |
 8:4 ¶
Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah: Shall men fall, and not rise up again? Shall one turn away, and not return? |
|
 8:4 ¶
Moreover thou shalt sayºº
untoº
them, Thusº
saithºº
the LORD;º
Shall they fall,ºº
and notº
arise?ºº
shall he turn away,ºº
and notº
return?ºº |
 8:5
Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return. |
|
 8:5
Whyº
[then] is thisº
peopleº
of Jerusalemº
slidden backºº
by a perpetualºº
backsliding?º
they holdºº
fastº
deceit,º
they refuseºº
to return.ºº |
 8:6
I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repenteth him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turneth to his course, as a horse that rusheth headlong in the battle. |
|
 8:6
I hearkenedºº
and heard,ºº
[but] they spakeº
notº
aright:ººº
noº
manº
repentedºº
him ofº
his wickedness,º
saying,ºº
Whatº
have I done?ºº
every oneº
turnedºº
to his course,º
as the horseº
rushethºº
into the battle.º |
 8:7
Yea, the stork in the heavens knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle-dove and the swallow and the crane observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the law of Jehovah. |
|
 8:7
Yea,º
the storkº
in the heavenº
knowethºº
her appointed times;º
and the turtleº
and the craneº
and the swallowº
observeººº
the timeº
of their coming;ºº
but my peopleº
knowºº
notºº
the judgmentº
of the LORD.º |
 8:8
How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of Jehovah is with us? But, behold, the false pen of the scribes hath wrought falsely. |
|
 8:8
Howº
do ye say,ºº
Weº
[are] wise,º
and the lawº
of the LORDº
[is] withº
us? Lo,º
certainlyº
in vainº
madeºº
he [it]; the penº
of the scribesºº
[is] in vain.º |
 8:9
The wise men are put to shame, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of Jehovah; and what manner of wisdom is in them? |
|
 8:9
The wiseº
[men] are ashamed,ººº
they are dismayedºº
and taken:ºº
lo,º
they have rejectedºº
the wordº
of the LORD;º
and whatº
wisdomº
[is] in them? |
 8:10
Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall possess them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness; from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely. |
|
 8:10
Thereforeº
will I giveººº
their wivesº
unto others,º
[and] their fieldsº
to them that shall inheritºº
[them]: forº
every oneº
from the leastºº
even untoº
the greatestº
is givenºº
to covetousness,ºº
from the prophetºº
even untoº
the priestº
every oneº
dealethºº
falsely.º |
 8:11
And they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. |
|
 8:11
For they have healedººº
the hurtº
of the daughterº
of my peopleº
slightly,ºº
saying,ºº
Peace,º
peace;º
when [there is] noº
peace.º |
 8:12
Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall; in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith Jehovah. |
|
 8:12
Were they ashamedººº
whenº
they had committedºº
abomination?º
nay,º
they were notº
at allºº
ashamed,ºº
neitherº
couldºº
they blush:ºº
thereforeº
shall they fallºº
among them that fall:ºº
in the timeº
of their visitationº
they shall be cast down,ºº
saithºº
the LORD.º |
 8:13 ¶
I will utterly consume them, saith Jehovah: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig-tree, and the leaf shall fade; and [the things that] I have given them shall pass away from them. |
|
 8:13 ¶
I will surelyºº
consumeºº
them, saithºº
the LORD:º
[there shall be] noº
grapesº
on the vine,º
norº
figsº
on the fig tree,º
and the leafº
shall fade;ºº
and [the things that] I have givenºº
them shall pass awayºº
from them. |
 8:14
Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fortified cities, and let us be silent there; for Jehovah our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against Jehovah. |
|
 8:14
Whyºº
do weº
sitº
still?ºº
assembleºº
yourselves,º
and let us enterºº
intoº
the defencedº
cities,º
and let us be silentºº
there:º
forº
the LORDº
our Godº
hath put us to silence,ºº
and given us waterº
of gallº
to drink,ºº
becauseº
we have sinnedºº
against the LORD.º |
 8:15
We looked for peace, but no good came; [and] for a time of healing, and, behold, dismay! |
|
 8:15
We lookedºº
for peace,º
but noº
goodº
[came; and] for a timeº
of health,º
and beholdº
trouble!º |
 8:16
The snorting of his horses is heard from Dan: at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones the whole land trembleth; for they are come, and have devoured the land and all that is in it; the city and those that dwell therein. |
|
 8:16
The snortingº
of his horsesº
was heardºº
from Dan:ºº
the wholeº
landº
trembledºº
at the soundºº
of the neighingº
of his strong ones;º
for they are come,ºº
and have devouredºº
the land,º
and allº
that is in it; the city,º
and those that dwellºº
therein. |
 8:17
For, behold, I will send serpents, adders, among you, which will not be charmed; and they shall bite you, saith Jehovah. |
|
 8:17
For,º
behold,º
I will sendºº
serpents,º
cockatrices,º
among you, whichº
[will] notº
[be] charmed,º
and they shall biteºº
you, saithºº
the LORD.º |
 8:18 ¶
Oh that I could comfort myself against sorrow! my heart is faint within me. |
|
 8:18 ¶
[When] I would comfortº
myself againstº
sorrow,º
my heartº
[is] faintº
inº
me. |
 8:19
Behold, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people from a land that is very far off: is not Jehovah in Zion? is not her King in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with foreign vanities? |
|
 8:19
Beholdº
the voiceº
of the cryº
of the daughterº
of my peopleº
because of them that dwell in a farº
country:ºº
[Is] notº
the LORDº
in Zion?º
[is] notº
her kingº
in her? Whyº
have they provoked me to angerºº
with their graven images,º
[and] with strangeº
vanities?º |
 8:20
The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. |
|
 8:20
The harvestº
is past,ºº
the summerº
is ended,ºº
and weº
are notº
saved.ºº |
 8:21
For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt: I mourn; dismay hath taken hold on me. |
|
 8:21
Forº
the hurtº
of the daughterº
of my peopleº
am I hurt;ºº
I am black;ºº
astonishmentº
hath taken holdºº
on me. |
 8:22
Is there no balm in Gilead? is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered? |
|
 8:22
[Is there] noº
balmº
in Gilead;º
[is there] noº
physicianºº
there?º
whyº
thenº
is notº
the healthº
of the daughterº
of my peopleº
recovered?ºº |
