 35:1 ¶ The word which came unto Jeremiah from Jehovah in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,

 35:1 ¶ The wordº whichº cameº untoº Jeremiahº fromºº the LORDº in the daysº of Jehoiakimº the sonº of Josiahº kingº of Judah,º saying,ºº

 35:2 Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of Jehovah, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.

 35:2 Goºº untoº the houseº of the Rechabites,º and speakºº untoº them, and bringºº them into the houseº of the LORD,º intoº oneº of the chambers,º and give them wineº to drink.ºº

 35:3 Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

 35:3 Then I tookººº Jaazaniahº the sonº of Jeremiah,º the sonº of Habaziniah,º and his brethren,º and allº his sons,º and the wholeº houseº of the Rechabites;º

 35:4 and I brought them into the house of Jehovah, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.

 35:4 And I broughtºº them into the houseº of the LORD,º intoº the chamberº of the sonsº of Hanan,º the sonº of Igdaliah,º a manº of God,º whichº [was] byº the chamberº of the princes,º whichº [was] aboveºº the chamberº of Maaseiahº the sonº of Shallum,º the keeperºº of the door:º

 35:5 And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.

 35:5 And I setºº beforeº the sonsº of the houseº of the Rechabitesº potsº fullº of wine,º and cups,º and I saidºº untoº them, Drinkºº ye wine.º

 35:6 But they said, We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons, for ever:

 35:6 But they said,ºº We will drinkºº noº wine:º forº Jonadabº the sonº of Rechabº our fatherº commandedººº us, saying,ºº Ye shall drinkºº noº wine,º [neither ye],º nor your sonsº forº ever:ºº

 35:7 neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any; but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land wherein ye sojourn.

 35:7 Neitherº shall ye buildºº house,º norº sowºº seed,º norº plantºº vineyard,º norº haveº [any]: butº allº your daysº ye shall dwellºº in tents;º thatº ye may liveºº manyº daysº inºº the landº whereºº yeº [be] strangers.ºº

 35:8 And we have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters;

 35:8 Thus have we obeyedºº the voiceº of Jonadabº the sonº of Rechabº our fatherº in allº thatº he hath chargedºº us, to drinkºº noº wineº allº our days,º we,º our wives,º our sons,º nor our daughters;º

 35:9 nor to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

 35:9 Norº to buildºº housesº for us to dwellº in:ºº neitherº haveº we vineyard,º nor field,º nor seed:º

 35:10 but we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

 35:10 But we have dweltº inºº tents,º and have obeyed,ºº and doneºº according to allº thatº Jonadabº our fatherº commandedºº us.

 35:11 But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians; so we dwell at Jerusalem.

 35:11 But it came to pass,º when Nebuchadrezzarº kingº of Babylonº came upºº intoº the land,º that we said,ºº Come,ºº and let us goºº to Jerusalemº for fearºº of the armyº of the Chaldeans,º and for fearºº of the armyº of the Syrians:º so we dwellºº at Jerusalem.º

 35:12 ¶ Then came the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah, saying,

 35:12 ¶ Then cameº the wordº of the LORDº untoº Jeremiah,º saying,ºº

 35:13 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Go, and say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to my words? saith Jehovah.

 35:13 Thusº saithºº the LORDº of hosts,º the Godº of Israel;º Goºº and tellºº the menº of Judahº and the inhabitantsºº of Jerusalem,º Will ye notº receiveºº instructionº to hearkenºº toº my words?º saithºº the LORD.º

 35:14 The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; and unto this day they drink none, for they obey their father's commandment: but I have spoken unto you, rising up early and speaking; and ye have not hearkened unto me.

 35:14 º The wordsº of Jonadabº the sonº of Rechab,º thatº he commandedººº his sonsº notº to drinkºº wine,º are performed;ºº for untoº thisº dayº they drinkºº none,º butº obeyººº their father'sº commandment:º notwithstanding Iº have spokenºº untoº you, rising earlyºº and speaking;ºº but ye hearkenedºº notº untoº me.

 35:15 I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.

 35:15 I have sentºº also untoº youº allº my servantsº the prophets,º rising up earlyºº and sendingºº [them], saying,ºº Returnºº ye nowº every manº from his evilº way,ºº and amendºº your doings,º and goººº notº afterº otherº godsº to serveºº them, and ye shall dwellº inººº the landº whichº I have givenºº to you and to your fathers:º but ye have notº inclinedººº your ear,º norº hearkenedºº untoº me.

 35:16 Forasmuch as the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people hath not hearkened unto me;

 35:16 Becauseº the sonsº of Jonadabº the sonº of Rechabº have performedººº the commandmentº of their father,º whichº he commandedºº them; but thisº peopleº hath notº hearkenedºº untoº me:

 35:17 therefore thus saith Jehovah, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.

 35:17 Thereforeº thusº saithºº the LORDº Godº of hosts,º the Godº of Israel;º Behold,º I will bringºº uponº Judahº and uponº allº the inhabitantsºº of Jerusalemºº allº the evilº thatº I have pronouncedºº againstº them: becauseº I have spokenºº untoº them, but they have notº heard;ºº and I have calledºº unto them, but they have notº answered.ºº

 35:18 ¶ And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he commanded you;

 35:18 ¶ And Jeremiahº saidºº unto the houseº of the Rechabites,º Thusº saithºº the LORDº of hosts,º the Godº of Israel;º Becauseºº ye have obeyedººº the commandmentº of Jonadabº your father,º and keptººº allº his precepts,º and doneºº according unto allº thatº he hath commandedºº you:

 35:19 therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.

 35:19 Thereforeº thusº saithºº the LORDº of hosts,º the Godº of Israel;º Jonadabº the sonº of Rechabº shall notº wantºº a manº to standºº beforeº me for ever.ºº
