 29:1 ¶ Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon,

 29:1 ¶ Now theseº [are] the wordsº of the letterº thatº Jeremiahº the prophetº sentºº from Jerusalemºº untoº the residueº of the eldersº which were carried away captives,º and toº the priests,º and toº the prophets,º and toº allº the peopleº whomº Nebuchadnezzarº had carried away captiveºº from Jerusalemºº to Babylon;º

 29:2 (after that Jeconiah the king, and the queen-mother, and the eunuchs, [and] the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the craftsmen, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem,)

 29:2 (Afterº thatº Jeconiahº the king,º and the queen,º and the eunuchs,º the princesº of Judahº and Jerusalem,º and the carpenters,º and the smiths,º were departedºº from Jerusalem;)ºº

 29:3 by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon,) saying,

 29:3 By the handº of Elasahº the sonº of Shaphan,º and Gemariahº the sonº of Hilkiah,º (whomº Zedekiahº kingº of Judahº sentºº unto Babylonº toº Nebuchadnezzarº kingº of Babylon)º saying,ºº

 29:4 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all the captivity, whom I have caused to be carried away captive from Jerusalem unto Babylon:

 29:4 Thusº saithºº the LORDº of hosts,º the Godº of Israel,º unto allº that are carried away captives,º whomº I have caused to be carried awayºº from Jerusalemºº unto Babylon;º

 29:5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

 29:5 Buildºº ye houses,º and dwellºº [in them]; and plantºº gardens,º and eatººº the fruitº of them;

 29:6 Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; and multiply ye there, and be not diminished.

 29:6 Takeºº ye wives,º and begetºº sonsº and daughters;º and takeºº wivesº for your sons,º and giveºº your daughtersº to husbands,ºº that they may bearºº sonsº and daughters;ºº that ye may be increasedºº there,º and notº diminished.ºº

 29:7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray unto Jehovah for it; for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

 29:7 And seekººº the peaceº of the cityº whitherºº I have caused you to be carried away captives,ºº and prayºº untoº the LORDº forº it: forº in the peaceº thereof shall ye haveº peace.º

 29:8 ¶ For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Let not your prophets that are in the midst of you, and your diviners, deceive you; neither hearken ye to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

 29:8 ¶ Forº thusº saithºº the LORDº of hosts,º the Godº of Israel;º Let notº your prophetsº and your diviners,ºº thatº [be] in the midstº of you, deceiveºº you, neitherº hearkenºº toº your dreamsº whichº yeº cause to be dreamed.ºº

 29:9 For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith Jehovah.

 29:9 Forº theyº prophesyºº falselyº unto you in my name:º I have notº sentºº them, saithºº the LORD.º

 29:10 ¶ For thus saith Jehovah, After seventy years are accomplished for Babylon, I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

 29:10 ¶ Forº thusº saithºº the LORD,º Thatº afterº seventyº yearsº be accomplishedºº at Babylonº I will visitºº you, and performººº my goodº wordº towardº you, in causing you to returnººº toº thisº place.º

 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope in your latter end.

 29:11 Forº Iº knowººº the thoughtsº thatº Iº thinkºº towardº you, saithºº the LORD,º thoughtsº of peace,º and notº of evil,º to giveºº you an expectedº end.º

 29:12 And ye shall call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

 29:12 Then shall ye callºº uponº me, and ye shall goºº and prayºº untoº me, and I will hearkenºº untoº you.

 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

 29:13 And ye shall seekºº me, and findºº [me], whenº ye shall searchºº forº me with allº your heart.º

 29:14 And I will be found of you, saith Jehovah, and I will turn again your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places wither I have driven you, saith Jehovah; and I will bring you again unto the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

 29:14 And I will be foundºº of you, saithºº the LORD:º and I will turn awayººº your captivity,ºº and I will gatherºº you from allºº the nations,º and from allºº the placesº whitherºº I have drivenºº you, saithºº the LORD;º and I will bring you againººº intoº the placeº whenceººº I caused you to be carried away captive.ºº

 29:15 ¶ Because ye have said, Jehovah hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;

 29:15 ¶ Becauseº ye have said,ºº The LORDº hath raised us upºº prophetsº in Babylon;º

 29:16 thus saith Jehovah concerning the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and concerning all the people that dwell in this city, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

 29:16 [Know] thatº thusº saithºº the LORDº ofº the kingº that sittethºº uponº the throneº of David,º and ofº allº the peopleº that dwellethºº in thisº city,º [and] of your brethrenº thatº are notº gone forthºº withº you into captivity;º

 29:17 thus saith Jehovah of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so bad.

 29:17 Thusº saithºº the LORDº of hosts;º Behold,º I will sendºº upon themº the sword,ºº the famine,º and the pestilence,º and will makeºº them like vileº figs,º thatº cannotº be eaten,ºº they are so evil.ºº

 29:18 And I will pursue after them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth, to be an execration, and an astonishment, and a hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them;

 29:18 And I will persecuteººº themº with the sword,º with the famine,º and with the pestilence,º and will deliverºº them to be removedººº to allº the kingdomsº of the earth,º to be a curse,º and an astonishment,º and an hissing,º and a reproach,º among allº the nationsº whitherºº I have drivenºº them:

 29:19 because they have not hearkened to my words, saith Jehovah, wherewith I sent unto them my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith Jehovah.

 29:19 Becauseºº they have notº hearkenedºº toº my words,º saithºº the LORD,º whichº I sentºº untoº them byº my servantsº the prophets,º rising up earlyºº and sendingºº [them]; but ye would notº hear,ºº saithºº the LORD.º

 29:20 ¶ Hear ye therefore the word of Jehovah, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.

 29:20 ¶ Hearºº yeº therefore the wordº of the LORD,º allº ye of the captivity,º whomº I have sentºº from Jerusalemºº to Babylon:º

 29:21 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie unto you in my name: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;

 29:21 Thusº saithºº the LORDº of hosts,º the Godº of Israel,º ofº Ahabº the sonº of Kolaiah,º and ofº Zedekiahº the sonº of Maaseiah,º which prophesyºº a lieº unto you in my name;º Behold,º I will deliverºº them into the handº of Nebuchadrezzarº kingº of Babylon;º and he shall slayºº them before your eyes;º

 29:22 and of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captives of Judah that are in Babylon, saying, Jehovah make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

 29:22 And ofº them shall be taken upºº a curseº by allº the captivityº of Judahº whichº [are] in Babylon,º saying,ºº The LORDº makeºº thee like Zedekiahº and like Ahab,º whomº the kingº of Babylonº roastedºº in the fire;º

 29:23 because they have wrought folly in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, and have spoken words in my name falsely, which I commanded them not; and I am he that knoweth, and am witness, saith Jehovah.

 29:23 Becauseºº they have committedºº villanyº in Israel,º and have committedºº adulteryºº withº their neighbours'º wives,º and have spokenºº lyingº wordsº in my name,º whichº I have notº commandedºº them; even Iº know,ºº and [am] a witness,º saithºº the LORD.º

 29:24 ¶ And concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite thou shalt speak, saying,

 29:24 ¶ [Thus] shalt thou also speakºº toº Shemaiahº the Nehelamite,º saying,ºº

 29:25 Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thine own name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

 29:25 Thusº speakethºº the LORDº of hosts,º the Godº of Israel,º saying,ºº Becauseºº thouº hast sentºº lettersº in thy nameº untoº allº the peopleº thatº [are] at Jerusalem,º and toº Zephaniahº the sonº of Maaseiahº the priest,º and toº allº the priests,º saying,ºº

 29:26 Jehovah hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that there may be officers in the house of Jehovah, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in the stocks and in shackles.

 29:26 The LORDº hath madeºº thee priestº in the stead ofº Jehoiadaº the priest,º that ye should beº officersº in the houseº of the LORD,º for everyº manº [that is] mad,ºº and maketh himself a prophet,ºº that thou shouldest putºº him inº prison,º and inº the stocks.º

 29:27 Now therefore, why hast thou not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who maketh himself a prophet to you,

 29:27 Nowº therefore whyº hast thou notº reprovedºº Jeremiahº of Anathoth,º which maketh himself a prophetºº to you?

 29:28 forasmuch as he hath sent unto us in Babylon, saying, [The captivity] is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them?

 29:28 Forº thereforeºº he sentºº untoº us [in] Babylon,º saying,ºº Thisº [captivity is] long:º buildºº ye houses,º and dwellºº [in them]; and plantºº gardens,º and eatººº the fruitº of them.

 29:29 And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

 29:29 And Zephaniahº the priestº readººº thisº letterº in the earsº of Jeremiahº the prophet.º

 29:30 ¶ Then came the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah, saying,

 29:30 ¶ Then cameº the wordº of the LORDº untoº Jeremiah,º saying,ºº

 29:31 Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith Jehovah concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he hath caused you to trust in a lie;

 29:31 Sendºº toº allº them of the captivity,º saying,ºº Thusº saithºº the LORDº concerningº Shemaiahº the Nehelamite;º Becauseºº that Shemaiahº hath prophesiedºº unto you, and Iº sentºº him not,º and he caused you to trustººº inº a lie:º

 29:32 therefore thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed; he shall not have a man to dwell among this people, neither shall he behold the good that I will do unto my people, saith Jehovah, because he hath spoken rebellion against Jehovah.

 29:32 Thereforeº thusº saithºº the LORD;º Behold,º I will punishººº Shemaiahº the Nehelamite,º and his seed:º he shall notº haveº a manº to dwellºº amongº thisº people;º neitherº shall he beholdºº the goodº thatº Iº will doºº for my people,º saithºº the LORD;º becauseº he hath taughtºº rebellionº againstº the LORD.º
