 47:1 ¶ The word of Jehovah that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.

 47:1 ¶ The wordº of the LORDº thatº cameº toº Jeremiahº the prophetº againstº the Philistines,º beforeº that Pharaohº smoteººº Gaza.º

 47:2 Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall become an overflowing stream, and shall overflow the land and all that is therein, the city and them that dwell therein; and the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.

 47:2 Thusº saithºº the LORD;º Behold,º watersº rise upºº out of the north,ºº and shall beº an overflowingºº flood,º and shall overflowºº the land,º and allº that is therein;º the city,º and them that dwellºº therein: then the menº shall cry,ºº and allº the inhabitantsºº of the landº shall howl.ºº

 47:3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong ones, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers look not back to their children for feebleness of hands;

 47:3 At the noiseºº of the stampingº of the hoofsº of his strongº [horses], at the rushingºº of his chariots,º [and at] the rumblingº of his wheels,º the fathersº shall notº look backºº toº [their] childrenº for feeblenessºº of hands;º

 47:4 because of the day that cometh to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper that remaineth: for Jehovah will destroy the Philistines, the remnant of the isle of Caphtor.

 47:4 Because ofº the dayº that comethºº to spoilººº allº the Philistines,º [and] to cut offºº from Tyrusº and Zidonº everyº helperºº that remaineth:º forº the LORDº will spoilººº the Philistines,º the remnantº of the countryº of Caphtor.º

 47:5 Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is brought to nought, the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself?

 47:5 Baldnessº is comeºº uponº Gaza;º Ashkelonº is cut offºº [with] the remnantº of their valley:º how longºº wilt thou cutºº thyself?º

 47:6 O thou sword of Jehovah, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard; rest, and be still.

 47:6 Oº thou swordº of the LORD,º how longºº [will it be] ereº thou be quiet?ºº put upºº thyselfº intoº thy scabbard,º rest,ºº and be still.ºº

 47:7 How canst thou be quiet, seeing Jehovah hath given thee a charge? Against Ashkelon, and against the sea-shore, there hath he appointed it.

 47:7 Howº can it be quiet,ºº seeing the LORDº hath given it a chargeºº againstº Ashkelon,º and againstº the seaº shore?º thereº hath he appointedºº it.
