 16:1 ¶
And they departed from Elim{gr.Aelim}, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim{gr.Aelim} and Sinai{gr.Sina}; and on the fifteenth day, in the second month after their departure from the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, |
|
 16:1 ¶
And they took their journeyºº
from Elim,ºº
and allº
the congregationº
of the childrenº
of Israelº
cameºº
untoº
the wildernessº
of Sin,º
whichº
[is] betweenº
Elimº
and Sinai,º
on the fifteenthººº
dayº
of the secondº
monthº
after their departing outºº
of the landºº
of Egypt.º |
 16:2
all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Mosheh{gr.Moses} and Aaron. |
|
 16:2
And the wholeº
congregationº
of the childrenº
of Israelº
murmuredºº
againstº
Mosesº
and Aaronº
in the wilderness:º |
 16:3
And the children of Israel said to them, Would we had died smitten by the Lord in the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, when we sat by the flesh-pots, and ate bread to satiety! for ye have brought us out into this wilderness, to slay all this congregation with hunger. |
|
 16:3
And the childrenº
of Israelº
saidºº
untoº
them, Would to Godººº
we had diedºº
by the handº
of Yahwehº
in the landº
of Egypt,º
when we satºº
byº
the fleshº
pots,º
[and] when we did eatºº
breadº
to the full;º
forº
ye have brought us forthººº
intoº
thisº
wilderness,º
to killººº
thisº
wholeº
assemblyº
with hunger.º |
 16:4 ¶
And the Lord said to Mosheh{gr.Moses}, Behold, I [will] rain bread upon you out of heaven: and the people shall go forth, and they shall gather their daily portion for the day, that I may try them whether they will walk in my law or not. |
|
 16:4 ¶
Then saidºº
Yahwehº
untoº
Moses,º
Behold,º
I will rainºº
breadº
fromº
heavenº
for you; and the peopleº
shall go outºº
and gatherºº
a certain rateº
every day,ºº
thatº
I may proveºº
them, whether they will walkººº
in my law,º
orº
no.º |
 16:5
And it shall come to pass on the sixth day that they shall prepare whatsoever they have brought in, and it shall be double of what they shall have gathered for the day, daily. |
|
 16:5
And it shall come to pass,º
that on the sixthº
dayº
they shall prepareººº
[that] whichº
they bring in;ºº
and it shall beº
twiceº
as much asºº
they gatherºº
daily.º |
 16:6
And Mosheh{gr.Moses} and Aaron said to all the congregation of the children of Israel, At even ye shall know that the Lord has brought you out of the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}; |
|
 16:6
And Mosesº
and Aaronº
saidºº
untoº
allº
the childrenº
of Israel,º
At even,º
then ye shall knowºº
thatº
Yahwehº
hath brought you outººº
from the landºº
of Egypt:º |
 16:7
and in the morning ye shall see the glory of the Lord, inasmuch as he hears your murmuring against God; and who are we, that ye continue to murmur against us? |
|
 16:7
And in the morning,º
then ye shall seeººº
the gloryº
of Yahweh;º
for that he hearethººº
your murmuringsº
againstº
Yahweh:º
and whatº
[are] we,º
thatº
ye murmurºººº
againstº
us? |
 16:8
And Mosheh{gr.Moses} said, [This shall be] when the Lord gives you in the evening flesh to eat, and bread in the morning to satiety, because the Lord has heard your murmuring, which ye murmur against us: and what are we? for your murmuring is not against us, but against God. |
|
 16:8
And Mosesº
said,ºº
[This shall be], when Yahwehº
shall giveºº
you in the eveningº
fleshº
to eat,ºº
and in the morningº
breadº
to the full;ºº
for that Yahwehº
hearethººº
your murmuringsº
whichº
yeº
murmurºº
againstº
him: and whatº
[are] we?º
your murmuringsº
[are] notº
againstº
us, butº
againstº
Yahweh.º |
 16:9 ¶
And Mosheh{gr.Moses} said to Aaron, Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before God; for he has heard your murmuring. |
|
 16:9 ¶
And Mosesº
spakeºº
untoº
Aaron,º
Sayºº
untoº
allº
the congregationº
of the childrenº
of Israel,º
Come nearºº
beforeº
Yahweh:º
forº
he hath heardººº
your murmurings.º |
 16:10
And when Aaron spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and they turned toward the wilderness, then the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloud. |
|
 16:10
And it came to pass,º
as Aaronº
spakeºº
untoº
the wholeº
congregationº
of the childrenº
of Israel,º
that they lookedºº
towardº
the wilderness,º
and, behold,º
the gloryº
of Yahwehº
appearedºº
in the cloud.º |
 16:11 ¶
And the Lord spoke to Mosheh{gr.Moses}, saying, |
|
 16:11 ¶
And Yahwehº
spakeºº
untoº
Moses,º
saying,ºº |
 16:12
I have heard the murmuring of the children of Israel: speak to them, saying, Towards evening ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be satisfied with bread; and ye shall know that I am the Lord your God. |
|
 16:12
I have heardººº
the murmuringsº
of the childrenº
of Israel:º
speakºº
untoº
them, saying,ºº
Atº
evenºº
ye shall eatºº
flesh,º
and in the morningº
ye shall be filledºº
with bread;º
and ye shall knowºº
thatº
Iº
[am] Yahwehº
your Elohim.º |
 16:13
And it was evening, and quails came up and covered the camp: |
|
 16:13
And it came to pass,º
that at evenº
the quailsº
came up,ºº
and coveredººº
the camp:º
and in the morningº
the dewº
layºº
round aboutº
the host.º |
 16:14
in the morning it came to pass as the dew ceased round about the camp, that, behold, on the face of the wilderness [was] a small thing like white coriander seed, as frost upon the earth. |
|
 16:14
And when the dewº
that layº
was gone up,ºº
behold,º
uponº
the faceº
of the wildernessº
[there lay] a smallº
round thing,ºº
[as] smallº
as the hoar frostº
onº
the ground.º |
 16:15
And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, What is this? for they knew not what it was; and Mosheh{gr.Moses} said to them, |
|
 16:15
And when the childrenº
of Israelº
sawºº
[it], they saidºº
oneº
toº
another,º
Itº
[is] manna:º
forº
they wistºº
notº
whatº
itº
[was]. And Mosesº
saidºº
untoº
them, Thisº
[is] the breadº
whichº
Yahwehº
hath givenºº
you to eat.º |
 16:16 ¶
This [is] the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. This is that which the Lord has appointed: gather of it each man for his family, a homer for each person, according to the number of your souls, gather each of you with his fellow-lodgers. |
|
 16:16 ¶
Thisº
[is] the thingº
whichº
Yahwehº
hath commanded,ºº
Gatherºº
ofº
it every manº
accordingº
toº
his eating,º
an omerº
for every man,º
[according to] the numberº
of your persons;º
takeºº
ye every manº
for [them] whichº
[are] in his tents.º |
 16:17
And the children of Israel did so, and gathered some much and some less. |
|
 16:17
And the childrenº
of Israelº
didºº
so,º
and gathered,ºº
some more,ºº
some less.ºº |
 16:18
And having measured the homer [full], he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that had gathered less had no lack; each gathered according to the need of those who belonged to him. |
|
 16:18
And when they did meteºº
[it] with an omer,º
he that gathered muchºº
had nothing over,ººº
and he that gathered littleºº
had noº
lack;ºº
they gatheredºº
every manº
accordingº
toº
his eating.º |
 16:19
And Mosheh{gr.Moses} said to them, Let no man leave of it till the morning. |
|
 16:19
And Mosesº
said,ºº
Let noº
manº
leaveºº
ofº
it tillº
the morning.º |
 16:20
But they did not hearken to Mosheh{gr.Moses}, but some left of it till the morning; and it bred worms and stank: and Mosheh{gr.Moses} was irritated with them. |
|
 16:20
Notwithstanding they hearkenedºº
notº
untoº
Moses;º
but someºº
of them leftºº
ofº
it untilº
the morning,º
and it bredºº
worms,º
and stank:ºº
and Mosesº
was wrothºº
withº
them. |
 16:21
And they gathered it every morning, each man what he needed, and when the sun waxed hot it melted. |
|
 16:21
And they gatheredºº
it every morning,º
every manº
accordingº
toº
his eating:º
and when the sunº
waxed hot,ºº
it melted.ºº |
 16:22 ¶
And it came to pass on the sixth day, they gathered double what was needed, two homers for one [man]; and all the chiefs of the synagogue went in and reported it to Mosheh{gr.Moses}. |
|
 16:22 ¶
And it came to pass,º
[that] on the sixthº
dayº
they gatheredºº
twiceº
as muchº
bread,º
twoº
omersº
for oneº
[man]: and allº
the rulersº
of the congregationº
cameºº
and toldºº
Moses.º |
 16:23
And Mosheh{gr.Moses} said to them, Is not this the word which the Lord spoke? To-morrow [is] the sabbath, a holy rest to the Lord: bake that ye will bake, and seethe that ye will seethe, and all that is over leave to be laid by for the morrow. |
|
 16:23
And he saidºº
untoº
them, Thisº
[is that] whichº
Yahwehº
hath said,ºº
To morrowº
[is] the restº
of the holyº
sabbathº
unto Yahweh:º
bakeºº
[that]º
whichº
ye will bakeºº
[to day], and seetheºº
thatº
ye will seethe;ºº
and that whichº
remaineth overºº
lay upººº
for you to be keptº
untilº
the morning.º |
 16:24
And they left of it till the morning, as Mosheh{gr.Moses} commanded them; and it stank not, neither was there a worm in it. |
|
 16:24
And they laid it upºººº
tillº
the morning,º
asº
Mosesº
bade:ºº
and it did notº
stink,ºº
neitherº
wasº
there any wormº
therein. |
 16:25
And Mosheh{gr.Moses} said, Eat [that] to-day, for to-day is a sabbath to the Lord: [it] shall not be found in the plain. |
|
 16:25
And Mosesº
said,ºº
Eatºº
that to day;º
forº
to dayº
[is] a sabbathº
unto Yahweh:º
to dayº
ye shall notº
findºº
it in the field.º |
 16:26
Six days ye shall gather it, and on the seventh day is a sabbath, for there shall be none on that [day]. |
|
 16:26
Sixº
daysº
ye shall gatherºº
it; but on the seventhº
day,º
[which is] the sabbath,º
in it there shall beº
none.º |
 16:27 ¶
And it came to pass on the seventh day [that] some of the people went forth to gather, and found none. |
|
 16:27 ¶
And it came to pass,º
[that] there went outºº
[some] ofº
the peopleº
on the seventhº
dayº
for to gather,ºº
and they foundºº
none.º |
 16:28
And the Lord said to Mosheh{gr.Moses}, How long are ye unwilling to hearken to my commands and my law? |
|
 16:28
And Yahwehº
saidºº
untoº
Moses,º
How longºº
refuseºº
ye to keepºº
my commandmentsº
and my laws?º |
 16:29
See, for the Lord has given you this day [as] the sabbath, therefore he has given you on the sixth day the bread of two days: ye shall sit each of you in your houses; let no one go forth from his place on the seventh day. |
|
 16:29
See,ºº
forº
that Yahwehº
hath givenºº
you the sabbath,º
thereforeºº
heº
givethºº
you on the sixthº
dayº
the breadº
of two days;º
abideºº
ye every manº
in his place,º
let noº
manº
go outºº
of his placeºº
on the seventhº
day.º |
 16:30
And the people kept sabbath on the seventh day. |
|
 16:30
So the peopleº
restedºº
on the seventhº
day.º |
 16:31
And the children of Israel called the name of it Man; and it was as white coriander seed, and the taste of it as a wafer with honey. |
|
 16:31
And the houseº
of Israelº
calledººº
the nameº
thereof Manna:º
and itº
[was] like corianderº
seed,º
white;º
and the tasteº
of it [was] like wafersº
[made] with honey.º |
 16:32 ¶
And Mosheh{gr.Moses} said, This [is] the thing which the Lord hath commanded, Fill an homer with manna, to be laid up for your generations; that they may see the bread which ye ate in the wilderness, when the Lord led you forth out of the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}. |
|
 16:32 ¶
And Mosesº
said,ºº
Thisº
[is] the thingº
whichº
Yahwehº
commandeth,ºº
Fillº
an omerº
ofº
it to be keptº
for your generations;º
thatº
they may seeººº
the breadº
wherewithº
I have fedºº
you in the wilderness,º
when I brought you forthººº
from the landºº
of Egypt.º |
 16:33
And Mosheh{gr.Moses} said to Aaron, Take a golden pot, and cast into it one full homer of manna; and thou shalt lay it up before God, to be kept for your generations, |
|
 16:33
And Mosesº
saidºº
untoº
Aaron,º
Takeºº
aº
pot,º
and putºº
an omerº
fullº
of mannaº
therein,º
and lay it upºººº
beforeº
Yahweh,º
to be keptº
for your generations.º |
 16:34
as the Lord commanded Mosheh{gr.Moses}: and Aaron laid it up before the testimony to be kept. |
|
 16:34
Asº
Yahwehº
commandedººº
Moses,º
so Aaronº
laid it upººº
beforeº
the Testimony,º
to be kept.º |
 16:35
And the children of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to the land they ate the manna, until they came to the region of Zidon{gr.Phoenicia}. |
|
 16:35
And the childrenº
of Israelº
did eatººº
mannaº
fortyº
years,º
untilº
they cameºº
toº
a landº
inhabited;ºº
they did eatººº
manna,º
untilº
they cameºº
untoº
the bordersº
of the landº
of Canaan.º |
 16:36
Now the homer was the tenth part of three measures. |
|
 16:36
Now an omerº
[is] the tenthº
[part] of an ephah.º |
