|
 21:1 ¶
And these [are] the ordinances which thou shalt set before them. |
|
 21:1 ¶
Now theseº
[are] the judgmentsº
whichº
thou shalt setºº
beforeº
them. |
|
 21:2
If thou buy a Hebrew servant, six years shall he serve thee, and in the seventh year he shall go forth free for nothing. |
 21:2
Ifº
thou buyºº
an Hebrewº
servant,º
sixº
yearsº
he shall serve:ºº
and in the seventhº
he shall go outºº
freeº
for nothing.º |
|
 21:3
If he should have come in alone, he shall also go forth alone; and if his wife should have gone in together with him, his wife also shall go out. |
 21:3
Ifº
he came inºº
by himself,º
he shall go outºº
by himself:º
ifº
heº
were married,ºº
then his wifeº
shall go outºº
withº
him. |
|
 21:4
Moreover, if his master give him a wife, and she have [born] him sons or daughters, the wife and the children shall be his master's; and he shall go forth alone. |
 21:4
Ifº
his adonº
have givenºº
him a wife,º
and she have bornºº
him sonsº
orº
daughters;º
the wifeº
and her childrenº
shall beº
her adon's,º
and heº
shall go outºº
by himself.º |
|
 21:5
And if the servant should answer and say, I love my master and wife and children, I will not go away free; |
 21:5
And ifº
the servantº
shall plainlyºº
say,ºº
I loveººº
my adon,ºº
my wife,º
and my children;º
I will notº
go outºº
free:º |
|
 21:6
his master shall bring him to the judgment-seat of God, and then shall he bring him to the door,-- to the door-post, and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall serve him for ever. |
 21:6
Then his adonº
shall bringºº
him untoº
the elohim;º
he shall also bringºº
him toº
the door,º
orº
untoº
the door post;º
and his adonº
shall boreºº
his earº
throughººº
with an aul;º
and he shall serveºº
him for ever.º |
|
 21:7 ¶
And if any one sell his daughter as a domestic, she shall not depart as the maid-servants depart. |
 21:7 ¶
And ifº
a manº
sellººº
his daughterº
to be a maidservant,º
she shall notº
go outºº
as the menservantsº
do.ºº |
|
 21:8
If she be not pleasing to her master, after she has betrothed herself to him, he shall let her go free; but he is not at liberty to sell her to a foreign nation, because he has trifled with her. |
 21:8
Ifº
she pleaseºº
notºº
her adon,º
whoº
hath betrothedººº
her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed:ºº
to sellºº
her unto a strangeº
nationº
he shall have noº
power,ºº
seeing he hath dealt deceitfullyºº
with her. |
|
 21:9
And if he should have betrothed her to his son, he shall do to her according to the right of daughters. |
 21:9
And ifº
he have betrothedºº
her unto his son,º
he shall dealºº
with her after the mannerº
of daughters.º |
|
 21:10
And if he take another to himself, he shall not deprive her of necessaries and her apparel, and her companionship [with him]. |
 21:10
Ifº
he takeºº
him anotherº
[wife]; her food,º
her raiment,º
and her duty of marriage,º
shall he notº
diminish.ºº |
|
 21:11
And if he will not do these three things to her, she shall go out free without money. |
 21:11
And ifº
he doºº
notº
theseº
threeº
unto her, then shall she go outºº
freeº
withoutº
money.º |
|
 21:12 ¶
And if any man smite another and he die, let him be certainly put to death. |
 21:12 ¶
He that smitethºº
a man,º
so that he die,ºº
shall be surelyºº
put to death.ºº |
|
 21:13
But as for him that did it not willingly, but God delivered him into his hands, I will give thee a place whither the slayer may flee. |
 21:13
And ifº
a man lie not in wait,ººº
but Elohimº
deliverºº
[him] into his hand;º
then I will appointºº
thee a placeº
whitherºº
he shall flee.ºº |
|
 21:14
And if any one lie in wait for his neighbour to slay him by craft, and he go for refuge, thou shalt take him from my altar to put him to death. |
 21:14
But ifº
a manº
come presumptuouslyºº
uponº
his neighbour,º
to slayºº
him with guile;º
thou shalt takeºº
him fromºº
mine altar,º
that he may die.ºº |
|
 21:15 ¶
Whoever smites his father or his mother, let him be certainly put to death. |
 21:15 ¶
And he that smitethºº
his father,º
or his mother,º
shall be surelyºº
put to death.ºº |
|
 21:16 ¶
Whosoever shall steal one of the children of Israel, and prevail over him and sell him, and he be found with him, let him certainly die. |
 21:16 ¶
And he that stealethºº
a man,º
and sellethºº
him, or if he be foundºº
in his hand,º
he shall surelyºº
be put to death.ºº |
|
 21:17 ¶
He that reviles his father or his mother shall surely die. |
 21:17 ¶
And he that cursethºº
his father,º
or his mother,º
shall surelyºº
be put to death.ºº |
|
 21:18 ¶
And if two men revile each other and smite the one the other with a stone or his fist, and he die not, but be laid upon his bed; |
 21:18 ¶
And ifº
menºº
striveºº
together,º
and oneº
smiteººº
anotherº
with a stone,º
orº
with [his] fist,º
and he dieºº
not,º
but keepethºº
[his] bed:º |
|
 21:19
if the man arise and walk abroad on his staff, he that smote him shall be clear; only he shall pay for his loss of time, and for his healing. |
 21:19
Ifº
he rise again,ºº
and walkºº
abroadº
uponº
his staff,º
then shall he that smoteºº
[him] be quit:ºº
onlyº
he shall payºº
[for] the loss of his time,º
and shall cause [him] to be thoroughlyºº
healed.ºº |
|
 21:20 ¶
And if a man smite his man-servant or his maid-servant, with a rod, and [the party] die under his hands, he shall be surely punished. |
 21:20 ¶
And ifº
a manº
smiteººº
his servant,º
orºº
his maid,º
with a rod,º
and he dieºº
underº
his hand;º
he shall be surelyºº
punished.ºº |
|
 21:21
But if [the servant] continue to live a day or two, let not [the master] be punished; for he is his money. |
 21:21
Notwithstanding,º
ifº
he continueºº
a dayº
orº
two,ºº
he shall notº
be punished:ºº
forº
heº
[is] his money.º |
|
 21:22 ¶
And if two men strive and smite a woman with child, and her child be born imperfectly formed, he shall be forced to pay a penalty: as the woman's husband may lay upon him, he shall pay with a valuation. |
 21:22 ¶
Ifº
menºº
strive,ºº
and hurtºº
a womanº
with child,º
so that her fruitº
departºº
[from her], and yet noº
mischiefº
follow:ºº
he shall be surelyºº
punished,ºº
according asº
the woman'sº
husbandº
will layºº
uponº
him; and he shall payºº
as the judgesº
[determine]. |
|
 21:23
But if it be perfectly formed, he shall give life for life, |
 21:23
And ifº
[any] mischiefº
follow,ºº
then thou shalt giveºº
lifeº
forº
life,º |

 21:29
But ifº
the oxº
were wont to push with his hornº
in time past,ººº
and it hath been testifiedºº
to his owner,º
and he hath notº
keptºº
him in,º
but that he hath killedºº
a manº
orº
a woman;º
the oxº
shall be stoned,ºº
and his ownerº
alsoº
shall be put to death.ºº |
|
 21:30
And if a ransom should be imposed on him, he shall pay for the ransom of his soul as much as they shall lay upon him. |
 21:30

him a sum of money,º
then he shall giveºº
for the ransomº

whatsoeverºº

the owner of the pit shall make compensation; he shall give money to their owner, and the dead shall be his own. |
 21:34
The ownerº
