 20:1 ¶ And the Lord spoke all these words, saying:

 20:1 ¶ And Elohimº spakeººº allº theseº words,º saying,ºº

 20:2 I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, out of the house of bondage.

 20:2 Iº [am] Yahwehº thy Elohim,º whichº have broughtºº thee outº of the landºº of Egypt,º out of the houseºº of bondage.º

 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods beside me.

 20:3 Thou shalt haveº noº otherº elohimº beforeºº me.º

 20:4 Thou shalt not make to thyself an idol, nor likeness of anything, whatever things are in the heaven above, and whatever are in the earth beneath, and whatever are in the waters under the earth.

 20:4 Thou shalt notº makeºº unto thee any graven image,º or anyº likenessº [of any thing] thatº [is] in heavenº above,ºº or thatº [is] in the earthº beneath,ºº or thatº [is] in the waterº underºº the earth:º

 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down to them, nor serve them; for I am the Lord thy God, a jealous God, recompensing the sins of the fathers upon the children, to the third and fourth generation to them that hate me,

 20:5 Thou shalt notº bow downºº thyselfº to them, norº serveºº them: forº Iº Yahwehº thy Elohimº [am] a jealousº El,º visitingºº the iniquityº of the fathersº uponº the childrenº untoº the thirdº and fourthº [generation] of them that hateºº me;

 20:6 and bestowing mercy on them that love me to thousands [of them], and on them that keep my commandments.

 20:6 And shewingºº mercyº unto thousandsº of them that loveºº me, and keepºº my commandments.º

 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord thy God will not acquit him that takes his name in vain.

 20:7 Thou shalt notº takeººº the nameº of Yahwehº thy Elohimº in vain;º forº Yahwehº will notº hold him guiltlessººº thatº takethººº his nameº in vain.º

 20:8 Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy.

 20:8 Rememberºº theº sabbathº day,º to keep it holy.ºº

 20:9 Six days thou shalt labour, and shalt perform all thy work.

 20:9 Sixº daysº shalt thou labour,ºº and doºº allº thy work:º

 20:10 But on the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God; on it thou shalt do no work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy servant nor thy maidservant, thine ox nor thine ass, nor any cattle of thine, nor the stranger that sojourns with thee.

 20:10 But the seventhº dayº [is] the sabbathº of Yahwehº thy Elohim:º [in it] thou shalt notº doºº anyº work,º thou,º nor thy son,º nor thy daughter,º thy manservant,º nor thy maidservant,º nor thy cattle,º nor thy strangerº thatº [is] within thy gates:º

 20:11 For in six days the Lord made the heaven and the earth, and the sea and all things in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it.

 20:11 Forº [in] sixº daysº Yahwehº madeººº heavenº and earth,ºº the sea,º and allº thatº in them [is], and restedºº the seventhº day:º whereforeºº Yahwehº blessedºº theº sabbathº day,º and hallowedºº it.

 20:12 ¶ Honour thy father and thy mother, that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest live long on the good land, which the Lord thy God gives to thee.

 20:12 ¶ Honourººº thy fatherº and thy mother:º thatº thy daysº may be longºº uponº the landº whichº Yahwehº thy Elohimº givethºº thee.

 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.

 20:13 Thou shalt notº kill.ºº

 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

 20:14 Thou shalt notº commit adultery.ºº

 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.

 20:15 Thou shalt notº steal.ºº

 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

 20:16 Thou shalt notº bearºº falseº witnessº against thy neighbour.º

 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife; thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house; nor his field, nor his servant, nor his maid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any of his cattle, nor whatever belongs to thy neighbour.

 20:17 Thou shalt notº covetºº thy neighbour'sº house,º thou shalt notº covetºº thy neighbour'sº wife,º nor his manservant,º nor his maidservant,º nor his ox,º nor his ass,º nor any thingº thatº [is] thy neighbour's.º

 20:18 ¶ And all the people perceived the thundering, and the flashes, and the voice of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and all the people feared and stood afar off,

 20:18 ¶ And allº the peopleº sawººº the thunderings,º and the lightnings,º and the noiseº of the trumpet,º and the mountainº smoking:º and when the peopleº sawºº [it], they removed,ºº and stoodºº afar off.ºº

 20:19 and said to Mosheh{gr.Moses}, Speak thou to us, and let not God speak to us, lest we die.

 20:19 And they saidºº untoº Moses,º Speakºº thouº withº us, and we will hear:ºº but let notº Elohimº speakºº withº us, lestº we die.ºº

 20:20 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} says to them, Be of good courage, for God is come to you to try you, that his fear may be among you, that ye sin not.

 20:20 And Mosesº saidºº untoº the people,º Fearºº not:º forº Elohimº is comeºº toº proveºº you, and thatº his fearº may beº beforeº your faces,º that ye sinºº not.º

 20:21 And the people stood afar off, and Mosheh{gr.Moses} went into the darkness where God was.

 20:21 And the peopleº stoodºº afar off,ºº and Mosesº drew nearºº untoº the thick darknessº whereºº Elohimº [was].

 20:22 ¶ And the Lord said to Mosheh{gr.Moses}, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and thou shalt report it to the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have spoken to you from heaven.

 20:22 ¶ And Yahwehº saidºº untoº Moses,º Thusº thou shalt sayºº untoº the childrenº of Israel,º Yeº have seenºº thatº I have talkedºº withº you fromº heaven.º

 20:23 Ye shall not make to yourselves gods of silver, and gods of gold ye shall not make to yourselves.

 20:23 Ye shall notº makeºº withº me elohimº of silver,º neitherº shall ye makeºº unto you elohimº of gold.º

 20:24 ¶ Ye shall make to me an altar of earth; and upon it ye shall sacrifice your whole burnt-offerings, and your peace-offerings, and your sheep and your calves in every place, where I shall record my name; and I will come to thee and bless thee.

 20:24 ¶ An altarº of earthº thou shalt makeºº unto me, and shalt sacrificeºº thereonºº thy burnt offerings,º and thy peace offerings,ºº thy sheep,º and thine oxen:º in allº placesº whereº I recordººº my nameº I will comeºº untoº thee, and I will blessºº thee.

 20:25 And if thou wilt make to me an altar of stones, thou shalt not build them hewn [stones]; for thou hast lifted up thy tool upon them, and they are defiled.

 20:25 And ifº thou wilt makeºº me an altarº of stone,º thou shalt notº buildºº it of hewn stone:º forº if thou lift upºº thy toolº uponº it, thou hast pollutedºº it.

 20:26 Thou shalt not go up to my altar by steps, that thou mayest not uncover thy nakedness upon it.

 20:26 Neitherº shalt thou go upºº by stepsº untoº mine altar,º thatº thy nakednessº be notº discoveredºº thereon.º
