 33:1 ¶ And the Lord said to Mosheh{gr.Moses}, Go forward, go up hence, thou and thy people, whom thou broughtest out of the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, into the land which I swore to Abraham{gr.Abraam}, and Isaac, and Jacob, saying, I will give it to your seed.

 33:1 ¶ And Yahwehº saidºº untoº Moses,º Depart,ººº [and] go upºº hence,ºº thouº and the peopleº whichº thou hast brought upºº out of the landºº of Egypt,º untoº the landº whichº I swareºº unto Abraham,º to Isaac,º and to Jacob,º saying,ºº Unto thy seedº will I giveºº it:

 33:2 And I will send at the same time my angel before thy face, and he shall cast out the Amorite and the Hittite{gr.Chettite}, and the Perizzite{gr.Pherezite} and Girgashite{gr.Gergesite}, and Hivite{gr.Evite}, and Jebusite, and Canaanite{gr.Chananite}.

 33:2 And I will sendºº an angelº beforeº thee; and I will drive outººº the Canaanite,º the Amorite,º and the Hittite,º and the Perizzite,º the Hivite,º and the Jebusite:º

 33:3 And I will bring thee into a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up with thee, because thou art a stiff-necked people, lest I consume thee by the way.

 33:3 Untoº a landº flowingºº with milkº and honey:º forº I will notº go upºº in the midstº of thee; forº thouº [art] a stiffneckedºº people:º lestº I consumeºº thee in the way.º

 33:4 ¶ And the people having heard this grievous saying, mourned in mourning apparel.

 33:4 ¶ And when the peopleº heardººº theseº evilº tidings,º they mourned:ºº and noº manº did putºº onº him his ornaments.º

 33:5 For the Lord said to the children of Israel, Ye are a stiff-necked people; take heed lest I bring on you another plague, and destroy you: now then put off your glorious apparel, and [your] ornaments, and I will shew thee what I will do to thee.

 33:5 For Yahwehº had saidºº untoº Moses,º Sayºº untoº the childrenº of Israel,º Yeº [are] a stiffneckedºº people:º I will come upºº into the midstº of thee in aº moment,º and consumeºº thee: therefore nowº put offºº thy ornamentsº fromºº thee, that I may knowºº whatº to doºº unto thee.

 33:6 So the sons of Israel took off their ornaments and their array at the mount of Horeb{gr.Choreb}.

 33:6 And the childrenº of Israelº strippedºº themselvesº ofº their ornamentsº by the mountºº Horeb.º

 33:7 And Mosheh{gr.Moses} took his tabernacle and pitched it without the camp, at a distance from the camp; and it was called the Tabernacle of Testimony: and it came to pass [that] every one that sought the Lord went forth to the tabernacle which was without the camp.

 33:7 And Mosesº tookººº the tabernacle,º and pitchedºº it withoutºº the camp,º afar offºº fromº the camp,º and calledºº it the Tabernacleº of the congregation.º And it came to pass,º [that] every oneº which soughtºº Yahwehº went outºº untoº the tabernacleº of the congregation,º whichº [was] withoutºº the camp.º

 33:8 And whenever Mosheh{gr.Moses} went into the tabernacle without the camp, all the people stood every one watching by the doors of his tent; and when Mosheh{gr.Moses} departed, they took notice until he entered into the tabernacle.

 33:8 And it came to pass,º when Mosesº went outºº untoº the tabernacle,º [that] allº the peopleº rose up,ºº and stoodºº every manº [at] his tentº door,º and lookedºº afterº Moses,º untilº he was goneºº into the tabernacle.º

 33:9 And when Mosheh{gr.Moses} entered into the tabernacle, the pillar of the cloud descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and [God] talked to Mosheh{gr.Moses}.

 33:9 And it came to pass,º as Mosesº enteredºº intoº the tabernacle,º the cloudyº pillarº descended,ºº and stoodºº [at] the doorº of the tabernacle,º and [Yahweh] talkedºº withº Moses.º

 33:10 And all the people saw the pillar of the cloud standing by the door of the tabernacle, and all the people stood and worshipped every one at the door of his tent.

 33:10 And allº the peopleº sawººº the cloudyº pillarº standºº [at] the tabernacleº door:º and allº the peopleº rose upºº and worshipped,ºº every manº [in] his tentº door.º

 33:11 And the Lord spoke to Mosheh{gr.Moses} face to face, as if one should speak to his friend; and he retired into the camp: but his servant Joshua{gr.Jesus} the son of Nun{gr.Naue}, a young man, departed not forth from the tabernacle.

 33:11 And Yahwehº spakeºº untoº Mosesº faceº toº face,º asº a manº speakethºº untoº his friend.º And he turned againºº intoº the camp:º but his servantºº Joshua,º the sonº of Nun,º a young man,º departedºº notº outº ofºº the tabernacle.º

 33:12 ¶ And Mosheh{gr.Moses} said to the Lord, Lo! thou sayest to me, Lead on this people; but thou hast not shewed me whom thou wilt send with me, but thou hast said to me, I know thee above all, and thou hast favour with me.

 33:12 ¶ And Mosesº saidºº untoº Yahweh,º See,ºº thouº sayestºº untoº me, Bring upººº thisº people:º and thouº hast notº let me knowººº whomº thou wilt sendºº withº me. Yet thouº hast said,ºº I knowºº thee by name,º and thou hast alsoº foundºº graceº in my sight.º

 33:13 If then I have found favour in thy sight, reveal thyself to me, that I may evidently see thee; that I may find favour in thy sight, and that I may know that this great nation [is] thy people.

 33:13 Nowº therefore, I pray thee,º ifº I have foundºº graceº in thy sight,º shewºº me nowºº thy way,º thatº I may knowºº thee, that I may findºº graceº in thy sight:º and considerºº thatº thisº nationº [is] thy people.º

 33:14 And he says, I myself will go before thee, and give thee rest.

 33:14 And he said,ºº My presenceº shall goººº [with thee], and I will give thee rest.ºº

 33:15 And he says to him, If thou go not up with us thyself, bring me not up hence.

 33:15 And he saidºº untoº him, Ifº thy presenceº goºº notº [with me], carry us not upººº hence.ºº

 33:16 And how shall it be surely known, that both I and this people have found favour with thee, except only if thou go with us? So both I and thy people shall be glorified beyond all the nations, as many as are upon the earth.

 33:16 For whereinº shall it be knownºº hereº thatº Iº and thy peopleº have foundºº graceº in thy sight?º [is it] notº in that thou goestººº withº us? so shall we be separated,ºº Iº and thy people,º from allºº the peopleº thatº [are] uponº the faceº of the earth.º

 33:17 And the Lord said to Mosheh{gr.Moses}, I will also do for thee this thing, which thou hast spoken; for thou hast found grace before me, and I know thee above all.

 33:17 And Yahwehº saidºº untoº Moses,º I will doººº thisº thingº alsoº thatº thou hast spoken:ºº forº thou hast foundºº graceº in my sight,º and I knowºº thee by name.º

 33:18 And [Mosheh{gr.Moses}] says, Manifest thyself to me.

 33:18 And he said,ºº I beseech thee,º shewºº meº thy glory.º

 33:19 And [God] said, I will pass by before thee with my glory, and I will call by my name, the Lord, before thee; and I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and will have pity on whom I will have pity.

 33:19 And he said,ºº Iº will make allº my goodnessº passºº beforeºº thee, and I will proclaimºº the nameº of Yahwehº beforeº thee; and will be graciousººº to whomº I will be gracious,ºº and will shew mercyººº on whomº I will shew mercy.ºº

 33:20 And [God] said, Thou shalt not be able to see my face; for no man shall see my face, and live.

 33:20 And he said,ºº Thou canstºº notº seeººº my face:º forº there shall noº manº seeºº me, and live.ºº

 33:21 And the Lord said, Behold, [there is] a place by me: thou shalt stand upon the rock;

 33:21 And Yahwehº said,ºº Behold,º [there is] a placeº byº me, and thou shalt standºº uponº a rock:º

 33:22 and when my glory shall pass by, then I will put thee into a hole of the rock; and I will cover thee over with my hand, until I shall have passed by.

 33:22 And it shall come to pass,º while my gloryº passeth by,ºº that I will putºº thee in a cliftº of the rock,º and will coverººº thee with my handº whileº I pass by:ºº

 33:23 And I will remove my hand, and then shalt thou see my back parts; but my face shall not appear to thee.

 33:23 And I will takeºº awayºº mine hand,º and thou shalt seeººº my back parts:º but my faceº shall notº be seen.ºº
