 1:1 ¶ In the beginning God made the heaven and the earth.

 1:1 ¶ In the beginningº Elohimº createdººº the heavenº andº the earth.º

 1:2 But the earth was unsightly and unfurnished, and darkness was over the deep, and the Spirit of God moved over the water.

 1:2 And the earthº wasºº without form,º and void;º and darknessº [was] uponº the faceº of the deep.º And the Spiritº of Elohimº movedºº uponº the faceº of the waters.º

 1:3 And God said, Let there be light, and there was light.

 1:3 And Elohimº said,ºº Let there beºº light:º and there wasº light.º

 1:4 And God saw the light that it was good, and God divided between the light and the darkness.

 1:4 And Elohimº sawººº the light,º thatº [it was] good:º and Elohimº dividedººº the lightº fromº the darkness.º

 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night, and there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

 1:5 And Elohimº calledºº the lightº Day,º and the darknessº he calledºº Night.º And the eveningº and the morningº wereº the firstº day.º

 1:6 ¶ And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the water, and let it be a division between water and water, and it was so.

 1:6 ¶ And Elohimº said,ºº Let there beº a firmamentº in the midstº of the waters,º and letº it divideººº the watersº from the waters.º

 1:7 And God made the firmament, and God divided between the water which was under the firmament and the water which was above the firmament.

 1:7 And Elohimº madeººº the firmament,º and dividedººº the watersº whichº [were] underºº the firmamentº fromº the watersº whichº [were] aboveºº the firmament:º and it wasº so.º

 1:8 And God called the firmament Heaven, and God saw that it was good, and there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

 1:8 And Elohimº calledºº the firmamentº Heaven.º And the eveningº and the morningº wereº the secondº day.º

 1:9 ¶ And God said, Let the water which is under the heaven be collected into one place, and let the dry land appear, and it was so. And the water which was under the heaven was collected into its places, and the dry land appeared.

 1:9 ¶ And Elohimº said,ºº Let the watersº underºº the heavenº be gathered togetherºº untoº oneº place,º and let the dryº [land] appear:ºº and it wasº so.º

 1:10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gatherings of the waters he called Seas, and God saw that it was good.

 1:10 And Elohimº calledºº the dryº [land] Earth;º and the gathering togetherº of the watersº calledºº he Seas:º and Elohimº sawºº thatº [it was] good.º

 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the herb of grass bearing seed according to its kind and according to its likeness, and the fruit-tree bearing fruit whose seed is in it, according to its kind on the earth, and it was so.

 1:11 And Elohimº said,ºº Let the earthº bring forthºº grass,º the herbº yieldingºº seed,º [and] the fruitº treeº yieldingºº fruitº after his kind,º whoseº seedº [is] in itself, uponº the earth:º and it wasº so.º

 1:12 And the earth brought forth the herb of grass bearing seed according to its kind and according to its likeness, and the fruit tree bearing fruit whose seed is in it, according to its kind on the earth, and God saw that it was good.

 1:12 And the earthº brought forthºº grass,º [and] herbº yieldingºº seedº after his kind,º and the treeº yieldingºº fruit,º whoseº seedº [was] in itself, after his kind:º and Elohimº sawºº thatº [it was] good.º

 1:13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

 1:13 And the eveningº and the morningº wereº the thirdº day.º

 1:14 ¶ And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, to divide between day and night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and for years.

 1:14 ¶ And Elohimº said,ºº Let there beº lightsº in the firmamentº of the heavenº to divideººº the dayº fromº the night;º and let them beº for signs,º and for seasons,º and for days,º and years:º

 1:15 And let them be for light in the firmament of the heaven, so as to shine upon the earth, and it was so.

 1:15 And let them beº for lightsº in the firmamentº of the heavenº to give lightºº uponº the earth:º and it wasº so.º

 1:16 And God made the two great lights, the greater light for regulating the day and the lesser light for regulating the night, the stars also.

 1:16 And Elohimº madeººº twoº greatº lights;ºº the greaterº lightº to ruleº the day,º and the lesserº lightº to ruleº the night:º [he made] the starsº also.

 1:17 And God placed them in the firmament of the heaven, so as to shine upon the earth,

 1:17 And Elohimº setºº them in the firmamentº of the heavenº to give lightºº uponº the earth,º

 1:18 and to regulate day and night, and to divide between the light and the darkness. And God saw that it was good.

 1:18 And to ruleºº over the dayº and over the night,º and to divideººº the lightº fromº the darkness:º and Elohimº sawºº thatº [it was] good.º

 1:19 And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

 1:19 And the eveningº and the morningº wereº the fourthº day.º

 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth reptiles having life, and winged creatures flying above the earth in the firmament of heaven, and it was so.

 1:20 And Elohimº said,ºº Let the watersº bring forth abundantlyºº the moving creatureº that hathº life,ºº and fowlº [that] may flyºº aboveº the earthº inº the openº firmamentº of heaven.º

 1:21 And God made great whales, and every living reptile, which the waters brought forth according to their kinds, and every creature that flies with wings according to its kind, and God saw that they were good.

 1:21 And Elohimº createdººº greatº whales,º and everyº livingº creatureº that moveth,ºº whichº the watersº brought forth abundantly,ºº after their kind,º and everyº wingedº fowlº after his kind:º and Elohimº sawºº thatº [it was] good.º

 1:22 And God blessed them saying, Increase and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let the creatures that fly be multiplied on the earth.

 1:22 And Elohimº blessedºº them, saying,ºº Be fruitful,ºº and multiply,ºº and fillººº the watersº in the seas,º and let fowlº multiplyºº in the earth.º

 1:23 And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

 1:23 And the eveningº and the morningº wereº the fifthº day.º

 1:24 ¶ And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind, quadrupeds and reptiles and wild beasts of the earth according to their kind, and it was so.

 1:24 ¶ And Elohimº said,ºº Let the earthº bring forthºº the livingº creatureº after his kind,º cattle,º and creeping thing,º and beastº of the earthº after his kind:º and it wasº so.º

 1:25 And God made the wild beasts of the earth according to their kind, and cattle according to their kind, and all the reptiles of the earth according to their kind, and God saw that they were good.

 1:25 And Elohimº madeººº the beastº of the earthº after his kind,º and cattleº after their kind,º and every thingº that creepethº upon the earthº after his kind:º and Elohimº sawºº thatº [it was] good.º

 1:26 ¶ And God said, Let us make man according to our image and likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the flying creatures of heaven, and over the cattle and all the earth, and over all the reptiles that creep on the earth.

 1:26 ¶ And Elohimº said,ºº Let us makeºº manº in our image,º after our likeness:º and let them have dominionºº over the fishº of the sea,º and over the fowlº of the air,º and over the cattle,º and over allº the earth,º and over everyº creeping thingº that creepethºº uponº the earth.º

 1:27 And God made man, according to the image of God he made him, male and female he made them.

 1:27 So Elohimº createdººº manº in his [own] image,º in the imageº of Elohimº createdºº he him; maleº and femaleº createdºº he them.

 1:28 And God blessed them, saying, Increase and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the seas and flying creatures of heaven, and all the cattle and all the earth, and all the reptiles that creep on the earth.

 1:28 And Elohimº blessedºº them, and Elohimº saidºº unto them, Be fruitful,ºº and multiply,ºº and replenishººº the earth,º and subdueº it:ºº and have dominionºº over the fishº of the sea,º and over the fowlº of the air,º and over everyº living thingº that movethºº uponº the earth.º

 1:29 ¶ And God said, Behold I have given to you every seed-bearing herb sowing seed which is upon all the earth, and every tree which has in itself the fruit of seed that is sown, to you it shall be for food.

 1:29 ¶ And Elohimº said,ºº Behold,º I have givenºº youº everyº herbº bearingºº seed,º whichº [is] uponº the faceº of allº the earth,º and everyº tree,º in the whichº [is] the fruitº of a treeº yieldingºº seed;º to you it shall beºº for meat.º

 1:30 And to all the wild beasts of the earth, and to all the flying creatures of heaven, and to every reptile creeping on the earth, which has in itself the breath of life, even every green plant for food; and it was so.

 1:30 And to everyº beastº of the earth,º and to everyº fowlº of the air,º and to every thingº that creepethºº uponº the earth,º whereinº [there is] life,ºº [I have given]º everyº greenº herbº for meat:º and it wasº so.º

 1:31 And God saw all the things that he had made, and, behold, they were very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

 1:31 And Elohimº sawººº every thingº thatº he had made,ºº and, behold,º [it was] veryº good.º And the eveningº and the morningº wereº the sixthº day.º
