 23:1 ¶
And the life of Sarah{gr.Sarrha} was an hundred and twenty-seven years. |
|
 23:1 ¶
And Sarahº
wasº
an hundredºº
and sevenºº
and twentyº
yearsº
old:º
[these were] the yearsº
of the lifeº
of Sarah.º |
 23:2
And Sarah{gr.Sarrha} died in the city of Arboc, which is in the valley, this is Hebron{gr.Chebron} in the land of Canaan{gr.Chanaan}; and Abraham{gr.Abraam} came to lament for Sarah{gr.Sarrha} and to mourn. |
|
 23:2
And Sarahº
diedºº
in Kirjatharba;º
the sameº
[is] Hebronº
in the landº
of Canaan:º
and Abrahamº
cameºº
to mournºº
for Sarah,º
and to weepºº
for her. |
 23:3 ¶
And Abraham{gr.Abraam} stood up from before his dead; and Abraham{gr.Abraam} spoke to the sons of Heth{gr.Chet}, saying, |
|
 23:3 ¶
And Abrahamº
stood upºº
from beforeººº
his dead,ºº
and spakeºº
untoº
the sonsº
of Heth,º
saying,ºº |
 23:4
I am a sojourner and a stranger among you, give me therefore possession of a burying-place among you, and I will bury my dead away from me. |
|
 23:4
Iº
[am] a strangerº
and a sojournerº
withº
you: giveºº
me a possessionº
of a buryingplaceº
withº
you, that I may buryºº
my deadºº
out of my sight.ºº |
 23:5
And the sons of Heth{gr.Chet} answered to Abraham{gr.Abraam}, saying, Not so, Sir, |
|
 23:5
And the childrenº
of Hethº
answeredººº
Abraham,º
sayingºº
unto him, |
 23:6
but hear us; thou art in the midst of us a king from God; bury thy dead in our choice sepulchres, for not one of us will by any means withhold his sepulchre from thee, so that thou shouldest not bury thy dead there. |
|
 23:6
Hearº
us,ºº
my adon:º
thouº
[art] a mightyº
princeº
amongº
us:º
in the choiceº
of our sepulchresº
buryººº
thy dead;ºº
noneºº
ofº
us shall withholdºº
fromº
theeº
his sepulchre,º
but that thou mayest buryººº
thy dead.ºº |
 23:7
And Abraham{gr.Abraam} rose up and did obeisance to the people of the land, to the sons of Heth{gr.Chet}. |
|
 23:7
And Abrahamº
stood up,ºº
and bowedºº
himselfº
to the peopleº
of the land,º
[even] to the childrenº
of Heth.º |
 23:8
And Abraham{gr.Abraam} spoke to them, saying, If ye have it in your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hearken to me, and speak for me to Ephron the son Saar. |
|
 23:8
And he communedºº
withº
them, saying,ºº
Ifº
it beºº
your mindº
that I should buryººº
my deadºº
out of my sight;ºº
hearºº
me, and intreatºº
for me to Ephronº
the sonº
of Zohar,º |
 23:9
And let him give me the double cave which he has, which is in a part of his field, let him give it me for the money it is worth for possession of a burying-place among you. |
|
 23:9
That he may giveºº
meº
the caveº
of Machpelah,º
whichº
he hath, whichº
[is] in the endº
of his field;º
for as muchºº
moneyº
as it is worthº
he shall giveº
itºº
me for a possessionº
of a buryingplaceº
amongstº
you.º |
 23:10
Now Ephron was sitting in the midst of the children of Heth{gr.Chet}, and Ephron the Hittite{gr.Chettite} answered Abraham{gr.Abraam} and spoke in the hearing of the sons of Heth{gr.Chet}, and of all who entered the city, saying, |
|
 23:10
And Ephronº
dweltºº
amongº
the childrenº
of Heth:º
and Ephronº
the Hittiteº
answeredººº
Abrahamº
in the audienceº
of the childrenº
of Heth,º
[even] of allº
that went inºº
at the gateº
of his city,º
saying,ºº |
 23:11
Attend to me, my lord, and hear me, I give to thee the field and the cave which is in it; I have given it thee before all my country men; bury thy dead. |
|
 23:11
Nay,º
my adon,º
hearº
me:ºº
the fieldº
giveº
Iºº
thee, and the caveº
thatº
[is] therein, I giveº
itºº
thee; in the presenceº
of the sonsº
of my peopleº
giveºº
I it thee: buryºº
thy dead.ºº |
 23:12
And Abraham{gr.Abraam} did obeisance before the people of the land. |
|
 23:12
And Abrahamº
bowed downºº
himselfº
beforeº
the peopleº
of the land.º |
 23:13
And he said in the ears of Ephron before the people of the land, Since thou art on my side, hear me; take the price of the field from me, and I will bury my dead there. |
|
 23:13
And he spakeºº
untoº
Ephronº
in the audienceº
of the peopleº
of the land,º
saying,ºº
Butº
ifº
thouº
[wilt give it], I pray thee,º
hearºº
me: I will giveºº
thee moneyº
for the field;º
takeºº
[it] ofº
me, and I will buryººº
my deadºº
there.º |
 23:14
But Ephron answered Abraham{gr.Abraam}, saying, |
|
 23:14
And Ephronº
answeredººº
Abraham,º
sayingºº
unto him, |
 23:15
Nay, my lord, I have heard indeed, the land [is worth] four hundred silver didrachms, but what can this be between me and thee? nay, do thou bury thy dead. |
|
 23:15
My adon,º
hearkenºº
unto me: the landº
[is worth] fourº
hundredº
shekelsº
of silver;º
whatº
[is] thatº
betwixtº
me and thee? buryºº
therefore thy dead.ºº |
 23:16
And Abraham{gr.Abraam} hearkened to Ephron, and Abraham{gr.Abraam} rendered to Ephron the money, which he mentioned in the ears of the sons of Heth{gr.Chet}, four hundred didrachms of silver approved with merchants. |
|
 23:16
And Abrahamº
hearkenedºº
untoº
Ephron;º
and Abrahamº
weighedºº
to Ephronºº
the silver,º
whichº
he had namedºº
in the audienceº
of the sonsº
of Heth,º
fourº
hundredº
shekelsº
of silver,º
currentºº
[money] with the merchant.ºº |
 23:17 ¶
And the field of Ephron, which was in Double Cave, which is opposite Mamre{gr.Mambre}, the field and the cave, which was in it, and every tree which was in the field, and whatever is in its borders round about, were made sure in its borders round about, were made sure |
|
 23:17 ¶
And the fieldº
of Ephron,º
whichº
[was] in Machpelah,º
whichº
[was] beforeº
Mamre,º
the field,º
and the caveº
whichº
[was] therein, and allº
the treesº
thatº
[were] in the field,º
thatº
[were] in allº
the bordersº
round about,º
were made sureºº |
 23:18
to Abraham{gr.Abraam} for a possession, before the sons of Heth{gr.Chet}, and all that entered into the city. |
|
 23:18
Unto Abrahamº
for a possessionº
in the presenceº
of the childrenº
of Heth,º
before allº
that went inºº
at the gateº
of his city.º |
 23:19
After this Abraham{gr.Abraam} buried Sarah{gr.Sarrha} his wife in the Double Cave of the field, which is opposite Mamre{gr.Mambre}, this is Hebron{gr.Chebron} in the land of Canaan{gr.Chanaan}. |
|
 23:19
And afterº
this,º
Abrahamº
buriedººº
Sarahº
his wifeº
inº
the caveº
of the fieldº
of Machpelahº
beforeºº
Mamre:º
the sameº
[is] Hebronº
in the landº
of Canaan.º |
 23:20
So the field and the cave which was in it were made sure to Abraham{gr.Abraam} for possession of a burying place, by the sons of Heth{gr.Chet}. |
|
 23:20
And the field,º
and the caveº
thatº
[is] therein, were made sureºº
unto Abrahamº
for a possessionº
of a buryingplaceº
byºº
the sonsº
of Heth.º |
