 27:1 ¶ And it came to pass after Isaac was old, that his eyes were dimmed so that he could not see; and he called Esau, his elder son, and said to him, My son; and he said, Behold, I [am here].

 27:1 ¶ And it came to pass,ºº thatº when Isaacº was old,ºº and his eyesº were dim,ºº so that he could not see,ººº he calledººº Esauº his eldestº son,º and saidºº untoº him, My son:º and he saidºº untoº him, Behold,º [here am] I.

 27:2 And he said, Behold, I am grown old, and know not the day of my death.

 27:2 And he said,ºº Beholdº now,º I am old,ºº I knowºº notº the dayº of my death:º

 27:3 Now then take the weapons, both thy quiver and thy bow, and go into the plain, and get me venison,

 27:3 Nowº therefore take,ºº I pray thee,º thy weapons,º thy quiverº and thy bow,º and go outºº to the field,º and takeºº me [some] venison;ººº

 27:4 and make me meats, as I like them, and bring them to me that I may eat, that my soul may bless thee, before I die.

 27:4 And makeºº me savoury meat,º such asº I love,ºº and bringºº [it] to me, that I may eat;ºº thatº my soulº may blessºº thee beforeº I die.ºº

 27:5 And Rebekah{gr.Rebecca} heard Isaac speaking to Esau his son; and Esau went to the plain to procure venison for his father.

 27:5 And Rebekahº heardºº when Isaacº spakeºº toº Esauº his son.º And Esauº wentººº to the fieldº to huntºº [for] venison,º [and] to bringºº [it].

 27:6 ¶ And Rebekah{gr.Rebecca} said to Jacob her younger son, Behold, I heard thy father speaking to Esau thy brother, saying,

 27:6 ¶ And Rebekahº spakeºº untoº Jacobº her son,º saying,ºº Behold,º I heardººº thy fatherº speakºº untoº Esauº thy brother,º saying,ºº

 27:7 Bring me venison, and prepare me meats, that I may eat and bless thee before the Lord before I die.

 27:7 Bringºº me venison,º and makeºº me savoury meat,º that I may eat,ºº and blessºº thee beforeº Yahwehº beforeº my death.º

 27:8 Now then, my son, hearken to me, as I command thee.

 27:8 Nowº therefore, my son,º obeyºº my voiceº according to that whichº Iº commandºº thee.

 27:9 And go to the cattle and take for me thence two kids, tender and good, and I will make them meats for thy father, as he likes.

 27:9 Goººº nowº toº the flock,º and fetchºº me from thenceºº twoº goodº kidsº of the goats;º and I will makeºº them savoury meatº for thy father,º such asº he loveth:ºº

 27:10 And thou shalt bring them in to thy father, and he shall eat, that thy father may bless thee before he dies.

 27:10 And thou shalt bringºº [it] to thy father,º that he may eat,ºº and thatºº he may blessºº thee beforeº his death.º

 27:11 And Jacob said to his mother Rebekah{gr.Rebecca}, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I a smooth man.

 27:11 And Jacobº saidºº toº Rebekahº his mother,º Behold,º Esauº my brotherº [is] a hairyº man,º and Iº [am] a smoothº man:º

 27:12 Peradventure my father may feel me, and I shall be before him as one ill-intentioned, and I shall bring upon me a curse, and not a blessing.

 27:12 My fatherº peradventureº will feelºº me, and I shall seemºº to himº as a deceiver;ºº and I shall bringºº a curseº uponº me, and notº a blessing.º

 27:13 And his mother said to him, On me be thy curse, son; only hearken to my voice, and go and bring [them] me.

 27:13 And his motherº saidºº unto him, Uponº me [be] thy curse,º my son:º onlyº obeyºº my voice,º and goººº fetchºº me [them].

 27:14 So he went and took and brought them to his mother; and his mother made meats, as his father liked [them].

 27:14 And he went,ººº and fetched,ºº and broughtºº [them] to his mother:º and his motherº madeºº savoury meat,º such asº his fatherº loved.ºº

 27:15 And Rebekah{gr.Rebecca} having taken the fine raiment of her elder son Esau which was with her in the house, put it on Jacob her younger son.

 27:15 And Rebekahº tookººº goodlyºº raimentº of her eldestº sonº Esau,º whichº [were] withº her in the house,º and put them uponººº Jacobº her youngerº son:º

 27:16 And she put on his arms the skins of the kids, and on the bare parts of his neck.

 27:16 And she putºº the skinsº of the kidsº of the goatsº uponº his hands,º and uponº the smoothº of his neck:º

 27:17 And she gave the meats, and the loaves which she had prepared, into the hands of Jacob her son.

 27:17 And she gaveººº the savoury meatº and the bread,º whichº she had prepared,ºº into the handº of her sonº Jacob.º

 27:18 ¶ And he brought [them] to his father, and said, Father; and he said, Behold I [am here]; who art thou, son?

 27:18 ¶ And he cameºº untoº his father,º and said,ºº My father:º and he said,ºº Hereº [am] I; whoº [art] thou,º my son?º

 27:19 And Jacob said to his father, I, Esau thy first-born, have done as thou toldest me; rise, sit, and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.

 27:19 And Jacobº saidºº untoº his father,º Iº [am] Esauº thy firstborn;º I have doneºº according asº thou badestººº me: arise,ºº I pray thee,º sitºº and eatºº of my venison,ºº thatº thy soulº may blessºº me.

 27:20 And Isaac said to his son, What is this which thou hast quickly found? And he said, That which the Lord thy God presented before me.

 27:20 And Isaacº saidºº untoº his son,º Howº [is it]º that thou hast foundºº [it] so quickly,ºº my son?º And he said,ºº Becauseº Yahwehº thy Elohimº broughtºº [it] toº me.º

 27:21 And Isaac said to Jacob, Draw night to me, and I will feel thee, son, if thou art my son Esau or not.

 27:21 And Isaacº saidºº untoº Jacob,º Come near,ºº I pray thee,º that I may feelºº thee, my son,º whether thouº [be] my veryº sonº Esauº orº not.º

 27:22 And Jacob drew night to his father Isaac, and he felt him, and said, The voice [is] Jacob's voice, but the hands [are] the hands of Esau.

 27:22 And Jacobº went nearºº untoº Isaacº his father;º and he feltºº him, and said,ºº The voiceº [is] Jacob'sº voice,º but the handsº [are] the handsº of Esau.º

 27:23 And he knew him not, for his hands were as the hands of his brother Esau, hairy; and he blessed him,

 27:23 And he discernedºº him not,º becauseº his handsº wereº hairy,º as his brotherº Esau'sº hands:º so he blessedºº him.

 27:24 and he said, Art thou my son Esau? and he said, I [am].

 27:24 And he said,ºº [Art] thouº my veryº sonº Esau?º And he said,ºº Iº [am].

 27:25 And he said, Bring hither, and I will eat of thy venison, son, that my soul may bless thee; and he brought [it] near to him, and he ate, and he brought him wine, and he drank.

 27:25 And he said,ºº Bring [it] nearºº to me, and I will eatºº of my son'sº venison,ºº thatº my soulº may blessºº thee. And he brought [it] nearºº to him, and he did eat:ºº and he broughtºº him wine,º and he drank.ºº

 27:26 And Isaac his father said to him, Draw nigh to me, and kiss me, son.

 27:26 And his fatherº Isaacº saidºº untoº him, Come nearºº now,º and kissºº me, my son.º

 27:27 And he drew nigh and kissed him, and smelled the smell of his garments, and blessed him, and said, Behold, the smell of my son is as the smell of an abundant field, which the Lord has blessed.

 27:27 And he came near,ºº and kissedºº him: and he smelledººº the smellº of his raiment,º and blessedºº him, and said,ºº See,ºº the smellº of my sonº [is] as the smellº of a fieldº whichº Yahwehº hath blessed:ºº

 27:28 And may God give thee of the dew of heaven, and of the fatness of the earth, and abundance of corn and wine.

 27:28 Therefore Elohimº giveºº thee of the dewºº of heaven,º and the fatnessº of the earth,º and plentyº of cornº and wine:º

 27:29 And let nations serve thee, and princes bow down to thee, and be thou lord of thy brother, and the sons of thy father shall do thee reverence; accursed is he that curses thee, and blessed is he that blesses thee.

 27:29 Let peopleº serveºº thee, and nationsº bow downºº to thee: beºº lordº over thy brethren,º and let thy mother'sº sonsº bow downºº to thee: cursedºº [be] every one that cursethºº thee, and blessedºº [be] he that blessethºº thee.

 27:30 ¶ And it came to pass after Isaac had ceased blessing his son Jacob, it even came to pass, just when Jacob had gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

 27:30 ¶ And it came to pass,º as soon asº Isaacº had made an endºº of blessingººº Jacob,º and Jacobº wasº yetº scarceºº gone outºº fromºº the presenceº of Isaacº his father,º that Esauº his brotherº came inºº from his hunting.ºº

 27:31 And he also had made meats and brought them to his father; and he said to his father, Let my father arise and eat of his son's venison, that thy soul may bless me.

 27:31 And heº alsoº had madeºº savoury meat,º and broughtº itºº unto his father,º and saidºº unto his father,º Let my fatherº arise,ºº and eatºº of his son'sº venison,ºº thatº thy soulº may blessºº me.

 27:32 And Isaac his father said to him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy first-born son Esau.

 27:32 And Isaacº his fatherº saidºº unto him, Whoº [art] thou?º And he said,ºº Iº [am] thy son,º thy firstbornº Esau.º

 27:33 And Isaac was amazed with very great amazement, and said, Who then is it that has procured venison for me and brought it to me? and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and I have blessed him, and he shall be blessed.

 27:33 And Isaacº trembledºº veryº exceedingly,ºººº and said,ºº Who?º whereº [is] heº that hath takenºº venison,º and broughtºº [it] me, and I have eatenºº of allºº beforeº thou camest,ºº and have blessedºº him? yea,º [and] he shall beº blessed.ºº

 27:34 And it came to pass when Esau heard the words of his father Isaac, he cried out with a great and very bitter cry, and said, Bless, I pray thee, me also, father.

 27:34 And when Esauº heardººº the wordsº of his father,º he criedºº with a greatº andº exceedingº bitterº cry,º and saidºº unto his father,º Blessºº me, [even] meº also,º O my father.º

 27:35 And he said to him, Thy brother has come with subtlety, and taken thy blessing.

 27:35 And he said,ºº Thy brotherº cameºº with subtilty,º and hath taken awayºº thy blessing.º

 27:36 And he said, Rightly was his name called Jacob, for lo! this second time has he supplanted me; he has both taken my birthright, and now he has taken my blessing; and Esau said to his father, Hast thou not left a blessing for me, father?

 27:36 And he said,ºº Is not he rightlyº namedººº Jacob?º for he hath supplantedº meºº theseº two times:º he took awayººº my birthright;º and, behold,º nowº he hath taken awayºº my blessing.º And he said,ºº Hast thou notº reservedºº a blessingº for me?

 27:37 And Isaac answered and said to Esau, If I have made him thy lord, and have made all his brethren his servants, and have strengthened him with corn and wine, what then shall I do for thee, son?

 27:37 And Isaacº answeredºº and saidºº unto Esau,º Behold,º I have madeºº him thy lord,º and allº his brethrenº have I givenºº to him for servants;º and with cornº and wineº have I sustainedºº him: and whatº shall I doºº nowº unto thee, my son?º

 27:38 And Esau said to his father, Hast thou [only] one blessing, father? Bless, I pray thee, me also, father. And Isaac being troubled, Esau cried aloud and wept.

 27:38 And Esauº saidºº untoº his father,º Hast thou but oneº blessing,º my father?º blessºº me, [even] meº also,º O my father.º And Esauº lifted upºº his voice,º and wept.ºº

 27:39 And Isaac his father answered and said to him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be of the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above.

 27:39 And Isaacº his fatherº answeredºº and saidºº untoº him, Behold,º thy dwellingº shall beº the fatnessºº of the earth,º and of the dewºº of heavenº from above;ºº

 27:40 And thou shalt live by thy sword, and shalt serve thy brother; and there shall be [a time] when thou shalt break and loosen his yoke from off thy neck.

 27:40 And byº thy swordº shalt thou live,ºº and shalt serveºº thy brother;º and it shall come to passº whenº thou shalt have the dominion,ºº that thou shalt breakºº his yokeº from offºº thy neck.º

 27:41 ¶ And Esau was angry with Jacob because of the blessing, with which his father blessed him; and Esau said in his mind, Let the days of my father's mourning draw nigh, that I may slay my brother Jacob.

 27:41 ¶ And Esauº hatedººº Jacobº becauseº ofº the blessingº wherewithº his fatherº blessedº him:ºº and Esauº saidºº in his heart,º The daysº of mourningº for my fatherº are at hand;ºº then will I slayººº my brotherº Jacob.º

 27:42 And the words of Esau her elder son were reported to Rebekah{gr.Rebecca}, and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him, Behold, Esau thy brother threatens thee to kill thee.

 27:42 Andº these wordsº of Esauº her elderº sonº were toldºº to Rebekah:º and she sentºº and calledºº Jacobº her youngerº son,º and saidºº untoº him, Behold,º thy brotherº Esau,º as touching thee, doth comfortºº himself,º [purposing] to killºº thee.

 27:43 Now then, my son, hear my voice, and rise and depart quickly into Padanaram{gr.Mesopotamia} to Laban my brother into Haran{gr.Charran}.

 27:43 Nowº therefore, my son,º obeyºº my voice;º and arise,ºº fleeºº thou toº Labanº my brotherº to Haran;º

 27:44 And dwell with him certain days, until thy brother's anger

 27:44 And tarryºº withº him a fewº days,º untilºº thy brother'sº furyº turn away;ºº

 27:45 and rage depart from thee, and he forget what thou hast done to him; and I will send and fetch thee thence, lest at any time I should be bereaved of you both in one day.

 27:45 Untilº thy brother'sº angerº turn awayºº fromº thee, and he forgetººº [that] whichº thou hast doneºº to him: then I will send,ºº and fetchºº thee from thence:ºº whyº should I be deprivedºº alsoº of you bothº in oneº day?º

 27:46 And Rebekah{gr.Rebecca} said to Isaac, I am weary of my life, because of the daughters of the sons of Heth{gr.Chet}; if Jacob shall take a wife of the daughters of this land, wherefore should I live?

 27:46 And Rebekahº saidºº toº Isaac,º I am wearyºº of my lifeº becauseºº of the daughtersº of Heth:º ifº Jacobº takeºº a wifeº of the daughtersºº of Heth,º such as theseº [which are] of the daughtersºº of the land,º what goodº shall my lifeº do me?
