 40:1 ¶ And it came to pass after these things, that the chief cupbearer of the king of Mizraim{gr.Egypt} and the chief baker trespassed against their lord the king of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}.

 40:1 ¶ And it came to passº afterº theseº things,º [that] the butlerººº of the kingº of Egyptº and [his] bakerºº had offendedºº their adonº the kingº of Egypt.º

 40:2 And Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} was wroth with his two eunuchs, with his chief cupbearer, and with his chief baker.

 40:2 And Pharaohº was wrothºº againstº twoº [of] his officers,º againstº the chiefº of the butlers,ººº and againstº the chiefº of the bakers.ºº

 40:3 And he put them in ward, into the prison, into the place whereinto Joseph had been led.

 40:3 And he putºº them in wardº in the houseº of the captainº of the guard,º intoº the prison,ºº the placeº whereºº Josephº [was] bound.ºº

 40:4 And the chief keeper of the prison committed them to Joseph, and he stood by them; and they were [some] days in the prison.

 40:4 And the captainº of the guardº chargedººº Josephº withº them, and he servedºº them: and they continuedº a seasonº in ward.º

 40:5 ¶ And they both had a dream in one night; and the vision of the dream of the chief cupbearer and chief baker, who belonged to the king of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, who were in the prison, was this.

 40:5 ¶ And they dreamedºº a dreamº bothº of them,º each manº his dreamº in oneº night,º each manº according to the interpretationº of his dream,º the butlerººº and the bakerºº of the kingº of Egypt,º whichº [were] boundºº in the prison.ºº

 40:6 Joseph went in to them in the morning, and saw them, and they had been troubled.

 40:6 And Josephº came inºº untoº them in the morning,º and lookedºº uponº them, and, behold,º they [were] sad.ºº

 40:7 And he asked the eunuchs of Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} who were with him in the prison with his master, saying, Why is it that your countenances are sad to-day?

 40:7 And he askedººº Pharaoh'sº officersº thatº [were] withº him in the wardº of his adon'sº house,º saying,ºº Whereforeº lookº ye [so] sadlyº to day?º

 40:8 And they said to him, We have seen a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said to them, Is not the interpretation of them through god? tell [them] than to me.

 40:8 And they saidºº untoº him, We have dreamedºº a dream,º and [there is] noº interpreterºº of it. And Josephº saidºº untoº them, [Do] notº interpretationsº [belong] to Elohim?º tellº meºº [them], I pray you.º

 40:9 And the chief cupbearer related his dream to Joseph, and said, In my dream a vine was before me.

 40:9 And the chiefº butlerººº toldººº his dreamº to Joseph,º and saidºº to him, In my dream,º behold,º a vineº [was] beforeº me;º

 40:10 And in the vine [were] three stems; and it budding shot forth blossoms; the clusters of grapes were ripe.

 40:10 And in the vineº [were] threeº branches:º and it [was] as though it budded,ºº [and] herº blossomsº shot forth;ºº and the clustersº thereof brought forthº ripeºº grapes:º

 40:11 And the cup of Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} was in my hand; and I took the bunch of grapes, and squeezed it into the cup, and gave the cup into Pharaoh's{gr.Pharao} hand.

 40:11 And Pharaoh'sº cupº [was] in my hand:º and I tookººº the grapes,º and pressedºº them intoº Pharaoh'sº cup,º and I gaveººº the cupº intoº Pharaoh'sº hand.º

 40:12 And Joseph said to him, This is the interpretation of it. The three stems are three days.

 40:12 And Josephº saidºº unto him, Thisº [is] the interpretationº of it: The threeº branchesº [are] threeº days:º

 40:13 Yet three days and Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} shall remember thy office, and he shall restore thee to thy place of chief cupbearer, and thou shalt give the cup of Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} into his hand, according to thy former high place, as thou wast wont to be cupbearer.

 40:13 Yetº within threeº daysº shall Pharaohº lift upººº thine head,º and restoreºº thee untoº thy place:º and thou shalt deliverºº Pharaoh'sº cupº into his hand,º after the formerº mannerº whenº thou wastº his butler.ººº

 40:14 But remember me of thyself, when it shall be well with thee, and thou shalt deal mercifully with me, and thou shalt make mention of me to Pharaoh{gr.Pharao}, and thou shalt bring me forth out of this dungeon.

 40:14 Butºº thinkºº onº me whenº it shall be wellºº with thee, and shewºº kindness,º I pray thee,º untoº me, and make mentionºº of me untoº Pharaoh,º and bring meºº outº ofº thisº house:º

 40:15 For surely I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews, and here I have done nothing, but they have cast me into this pit.

 40:15 Forº indeed I was stolen awayºº out of the landºº of the Hebrews:º and hereº alsoº have I doneºº nothingºº thatº they should putºº me into the dungeon.º

 40:16 And the chief baker saw that he interpreted aright; and he said to Joseph, I also saw a dream, and methought I took up on my head three baskets of mealy food.

 40:16 When the chiefº bakerºº sawºº thatº the interpretationºº was good,º he saidºº untoº Joseph,º Iº alsoº [was] in my dream,º and, behold,º [I had] threeº whiteº basketsº onº my head:º

 40:17 And in the upper basket there was the work of the baker of every kind which Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} eats; and the fowls of the air ate them out of the basket that was on my head.

 40:17 And in the uppermostº basketº [there was] of all mannerººº of bakemeatsºººº for Pharaoh;º and the birdsº did eatºº them out ofº the basketº uponºº my head.º

 40:18 And Joseph answered and said to him, This is the interpretation of it; The three baskets are three days.

 40:18 And Josephº answeredºº and said,ºº Thisº [is] the interpretationº thereof: The threeº basketsº [are] threeº days:º

 40:19 Yet three days, and Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} shall take away thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree, and the birds of the sky shall eat thy flesh from off thee.

 40:19 Yetº within threeº daysº shall Pharaohº lift upººº thy headº from offºº thee, and shall hangºº thee onº a tree;º and the birdsº shall eatººº thy fleshº from offºº thee.

 40:20 ¶ And it came to pass on the third day that it was Pharaoh's{gr.Pharao} birth-day, and he made a banquet for all his servants, and he remembered the office of the cupbearer and the office of the baker in the midst of his servants.

 40:20 ¶ And it came to passº the thirdº day,º [which was]º Pharaoh'sº birthday,ººº that he madeºº a feastº unto allº his servants:º and he lifted upººº the headº of the chiefº butlerººº and of the chiefº bakerºº amongº his servants.º

 40:21 And he restored the chief cupbearer to his office, and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's{gr.Pharao} hand.

 40:21 And he restoredººº the chiefº butlerººº untoº his butlershipº again;ºº and he gaveºº the cupº intoº Pharaoh'sº hand:º

 40:22 And he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph, interpreted to them.

 40:22 But he hangedºº the chiefº baker:ºº asº Josephº had interpretedºº to them.

 40:23 Yet did not the chief cupbearer remember Joseph, but forgot him.

 40:23 Yet did notº the chiefº butlerººº rememberººº Joseph,º but forgatºº him.
