 28:1 ¶
And Isaac having called for Jacob, blessed him, and charged him, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of the Canaanites{gr.Chananites}. |
|
 28:1 ¶
And Isaacº
calledººº
Jacob,º
and blessedºº
him, and chargedºº
him, and saidºº
unto him, Thou shalt notº
takeºº
a wifeº
of the daughtersºº
of Canaan.º |
 28:2
Rise and depart quickly into Padanaram{gr.Mesopotamia}, to the house of Bethuel{gr.Bathuel} the father of thy mother, and take to thyself thence a wife of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother. |
|
 28:2
Arise,ºº
goººº
to Padanaram,º
to the houseº
of Bethuelº
thy mother'sº
father;º
and takeºº
thee a wifeº
from thenceºº
of the daughtersºº
of Labanº
thy mother'sº
brother.º |
 28:3
And may my God bless thee, and increase thee, and multiply thee, and thou shalt become gatherings of nations. |
|
 28:3
And Elº
Shaddaiº
blessºº
thee, and make thee fruitful,ºº
and multiplyºº
thee, that thou mayest beº
a multitudeº
of people;º |
 28:4
And may he give thee the blessing of my father Abraham{gr.Abraam}, even to thee and to thy seed after thee, to inherit the land of thy sojourning, which God gave to Abraham{gr.Abraam}. |
|
 28:4
And giveºº
theeº
the blessingº
of Abraham,º
to thee, and to thy seedº
withº
thee; that thou mayest inheritººº
the landº
wherein thou art a stranger,º
whichº
Elohimº
gaveºº
unto Abraham.º |
 28:5
So Isaac sent away Jacob, and he went into Padanaram{gr.Mesopotamia} to Laban the son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah{gr.Rebecca} the mother of Jacob and Esau. |
|
 28:5
And Isaacº
sent awayººº
Jacob:º
and he wentººº
to Padanaramº
untoº
Laban,º
sonº
of Bethuelº
the Syrian,º
the brotherº
of Rebekah,º
Jacob'sº
and Esau'sº
mother.º |
 28:6 ¶
And Esau saw that Isaac blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram{gr.Mesopotamia} of Syria as he blessed him, to take to himself a wife thence, and [that] he charged him, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of the Canaanites{gr.Chananites}; |
|
 28:6 ¶
When Esauº
sawºº
thatº
Isaacº
had blessedººº
Jacob,º
and sent him awayººº
to Padanaram,º
to takeºº
him a wifeº
from thence;ºº
and that as he blessedºº
him he gave him a charge,ººº
saying,ºº
Thou shalt notº
takeºº
a wifeº
of the daughtersºº
of Canaan;º |
 28:7
and [that] Jacob hearkened to his father and his mother, and went to Padanaram{gr.Mesopotamia} of Syria. |
|
 28:7
And that Jacobº
obeyedººº
his fatherº
and his mother,º
and was goneººº
to Padanaram;º |
 28:8
And Esau also having seen that the daughters of Canaan{gr.Chanaan} were evil before his father Isaac, |
|
 28:8
And Esauº
seeingºº
thatº
the daughtersº
of Canaanº
pleasedº
notºº
Isaacº
his father;º |
 28:9
Esau went to Ishmael{gr.Ismael}, and took Maeleth the daughter of Ishmael{gr.Ismael}, the son of Abraham{gr.Abraam}, the sister of Nabeoth, a wife in addition to his [other] wives. |
|
 28:9
Then wentººº
Esauº
untoº
Ishmael,º
and tookºº
untoº
the wivesº
which he hadº
Mahalathº
the daughterº
of Ishmaelº
Abraham'sº
son,º
the sisterº
of Nebajoth,º
to be his wife.º |
 28:10 ¶
And Jacob went forth from the well of the oath, and departed into Haran{gr.Charrhan}. |
|
 28:10 ¶
And Jacobº
went outºº
from Beersheba,ºº
and wentººº
toward Haran.º |
 28:11
And came to a certain place and slept there, for the sun had gone down; and he took [one] of the stones of the place, and put it at his head, and lay down to sleep in that place, |
|
 28:11
And he lightedºº
upon a certain place,º
and tarried there all night,ººº
becauseº
the sunº
was set;ºº
and he tookºº
of the stonesºº
of that place,º
and putºº
[them for] his pillows,º
and lay downºº
in thatº
placeº
to sleep.ºº |
 28:12
and dreamed, and behold a ladder fixed on the earth, whose top reached to heaven, and the angels of God ascended and descended on it. |
|
 28:12
And he dreamed,ºº
and beholdº
a ladderº
set upºº
on the earth,º
and the topº
of itº
reachedºº
to heaven:º
and beholdº
the angelsº
of Elohimº
ascendingºº
and descendingºº
on it. |
 28:13
And the Lord stood upon it, and said, I am the God of thy father Abraham{gr.Abraam}, and the God of Isaac; fear not, the land on which thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed. |
|
 28:13
And, behold,º
Yahwehº
stoodºº
aboveº
it, and said,ºº
Iº
[am] Yahwehº
Elohimº
of Abrahamº
thy father,º
and the Elohimº
of Isaac:º
the landº
whereonºº
thouº
liest,ºº
to thee will I giveº
it,ºº
and to thy seed;º |
 28:14
And thy seed shall be as the sand of the earth; and it shall spread abroad to the sea, and the south, and the north, and to the east; and in thee and in thy seed shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed. |
|
 28:14
And thy seedº
shall beº
as the dustº
of the earth,º
and thou shalt spread abroadºº
to the west,º
and to the east,º
and to the north,º
and to the south:º
and in thee and in thy seedº
shall allº
the familiesº
of the earthº
be blessed.ºº |
 28:15
And behold I am with thee to preserve thee continually in all the way wherein thou shalt go; and I will bring thee back to this land; for I will not desert thee, until I have done all that I have said to thee. |
|
 28:15
And, behold,º
Iº
[am] withº
thee, and will keepºº
thee in allº
[places] whitherº
thou goest,ººº
and will bring thee againºº
intoº
thisº
land;º
forº
I will notº
leaveºº
thee, untilººº
I have doneººº
[that] whichº
I have spokenºº
to thee of. |
 28:16 ¶
And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and said, The Lord is in this place, and I knew it not. |
|
 28:16 ¶
And Jacobº
awakedºº
out of his sleep,ºº
and he said,ºº
Surelyº
Yahwehº
isº
in thisº
place;º
and Iº
knewºº
[it] not.º |
 28:17
And he was afraid, and said, How fearful is this place! this is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. |
|
 28:17
And he was afraid,ºº
and said,ºº
Howº
dreadfulºº
[is] thisº
place!º
thisº
[is] noneº
other butºº
the houseº
of Elohim,º
and thisº
[is] the gateº
of heaven.º |
 28:18
And Jacob rose up in the morning, and took the stone he [had] laid there by his head, and he set it up [as] a pillar, and poured oil on the top of it. |
|
 28:18
And Jacobº
rose up earlyºº
in the morning,º
and tookººº
the stoneº
thatº
he had putºº
[for] his pillows,º
and set it upººº
[for] a pillar,º
and pouredºº
oilº
uponº
the topº
of it.º |
 28:19
And he called the name of that place, the House of God; and the name of the city before was Ulam-luz. |
|
 28:19
And he calledººº
the nameº
of thatº
placeº
Bethel:º
butº
the nameº
of that cityº
[was called] Luzº
at the first.º |
 28:20
And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If the Lord God will be with me, and guard me throughout on this journey, on which I am going, and give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, |
|
 28:20
And Jacobº
vowedºº
a vow,º
saying,ºº
Ifº
Elohimº
will beº
withº
me, and will keepº
meºº
in thisº
wayº
thatº
Iº
go,ºº
and will giveºº
me breadº
to eat,ºº
and raimentº
to put on,ºº |
 28:21
and bring me back in safety to the house of my father, then shall the Lord be for a God to me. |
|
 28:21
So that I come againºº
toº
my father'sº
houseº
in peace;º
then shall Yahwehº
beº
my Elohim:º |
 28:22
And this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be to me a house of God; and of all whatsoever thou shalt give me, I will tithe a tenth for thee. |
|
 28:22
And thisº
stone,º
whichº
I have setºº
[for] a pillar,º
shall beº
Elohim'sº
house:º
and of allº
thatº
thou shalt giveºº
me I will surelyºº
give the tenthºº
unto thee. |
