 15:1 ¶
And after these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram, I shield thee, thy reward shall be very great. |
|
 15:1 ¶
Afterº
theseº
thingsº
the wordº
of Yahwehº
cameºº
untoº
Abramº
in a vision,º
saying,ºº
Fearºº
not,º
Abram:º
Iº
[am] thy shield,º
[and] thy exceedingº
greatºº
reward.º |
 15:2
And Abram said, Master [and] Lord, what wilt thou give me? whereas I am departing without a child, but the son of Masek my home-born female slave, this Eliezer of Damascus [is mine heir]. |
|
 15:2
And Abramº
said,ºº
Adonaiº
Yahweh,º
whatº
wilt thou giveºº
me, seeing Iº
goºº
childless,º
and the stewardºº
of my houseº
[is] thisº
Eliezerº
of Damascus?º |
 15:3
And Abram said, [I am grieved] since thou hast given me no seed, but my home-born [servant] shall succeed me. |
|
 15:3
And Abramº
said,ºº
Behold,º
to me thou hast givenºº
noº
seed:º
and, lo,º
one bornº
in my houseº
is mine heir.ºº |
 15:4
And immediately there was a voice of the Lord to him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come out of thee shall be thine heir. |
|
 15:4
And, behold,º
the wordº
of Yahwehº
[came] untoº
him, saying,ºº
Thisº
shall notº
be thine heir;ºº
butºº
he thatº
shall come forthºº
out of thine own bowelsºº
shall be thine heir.ºº |
 15:5
And he brought him out and said to him, Look up now to heaven, and count the stars, if thou shalt be able to number them fully, and he said, Thus shall thy seed be. |
|
 15:5
And he brought him forthººº
abroad,º
and said,ºº
Lookºº
nowº
toward heaven,º
and tellºº
the stars,º
ifº
thou be ableºº
to numberºº
them: and he saidºº
unto him, Soº
shall thy seedº
be.º |
 15:6
And Abram believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness. |
|
 15:6
And he believedºº
in Yahweh;º
and he countedºº
it to him for righteousness.º |
 15:7
And he said to him, I am God that brought thee out of the land of the Chaldeans, so as to give thee this land to inherit. |
|
 15:7
And he saidºº
untoº
him, Iº
[am] Yahwehº
thatº
broughtº
thee outºº
of Urºº
of the Chaldees,º
to giveºº
theeº
thisº
landº
to inheritºº
it. |
 15:8
And he said, Master [and] Lord, how shall I know that I shall inherit it? |
|
 15:8
And he said,ºº
Adonaiº
Yahweh,º
wherebyº
shall I knowºº
thatº
I shall inheritº
it?ºº |
 15:9
And he said to him, Take for me an heifer in her third year, and a she-goat in her third year, and a ram in his third year, and a dove and a pigeon. |
|
 15:9
And he saidºº
untoº
him, Takeºº
me an heiferº
of three years old,ºº
and a she goatº
of three years old,ºº
and a ramº
of three years old,ºº
and a turtledove,º
and a young pigeon.º |
 15:10
So he took to him all these, and divided them in the midst, and set them opposite to each other, but the birds he did not divide. |
|
 15:10
And he tookºº
unto himº
allº
these,º
and dividedºº
them in the midst,º
and laidºº
eachº
pieceº
one againstºº
another:º
but the birdsº
dividedºº
he not.º |
 15:11
And birds came down upon the bodies, [even] upon the divided parts of them, and Abram sat down by them. |
|
 15:11
And when the fowlsº
came downºº
uponº
the carcases,º
Abramº
drove them away.ººº |
 15:12
And about sunset a trance fell upon Abram, and lo! a great gloomy terror falls upon him. |
|
 15:12
And when the sunº
was going down,ºº
a deep sleepº
fellºº
uponº
Abram;º
and, lo,º
an horrorº
of greatº
darknessº
fellºº
uponº
him. |
 15:13
And it was said to Abram, Thou shalt surely know that thy seed shall be a sojourner in a land not their won, and they shall enslave them, and afflict them, and humble them four hundred years. |
|
 15:13
And he saidºº
unto Abram,º
Knowºº
of a suretyºº
thatº
thy seedº
shall beº
a strangerº
in a landº
[that is] notº
theirs, and shall serveºº
them; and they shall afflictºº
them fourº
hundredº
years;º |
 15:14
And the nation whomsoever they shall serve I will judge; and after this, they shall come forth hither with much property. |
|
 15:14
And alsoºº
that nation,º
whomº
they shall serve,ºº
will Iº
judge:ºº
and afterwardºº
shall they come outºº
with greatº
substance.º |
 15:15
But thou shalt depart to thy fathers in peace, nourished in a good old age. |
|
 15:15
And thouº
shalt goºº
toº
thy fathersº
in peace;º
thou shalt be buriedºº
in a goodº
old age.º |
 15:16
And in the fourth generation they shall return hither, for the sins of the Amorites are not yet filled up, even until now. |
|
 15:16
But in the fourthº
generationº
they shall come hitherº
again:ººº
forº
the iniquityº
of the Amoritesº
[is] notº
yetºº
full.º |
 15:17
And when the sun was about to set, there was a flame, and behold a smoking furnace and lamps of fire, which passed between these divided pieces. |
|
 15:17
And it came to pass,º
that, when the sunº
went down,ºº
and it wasº
dark,º
beholdº
a smokingº
furnace,º
and a burningº
lampº
thatº
passedºº
betweenº
thoseº
pieces.º |
 15:18
In that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, To thy seed I will give this land, from the river of Mizraim{gr.Egypt} to the great river Euphrates. |
|
 15:18
In the sameº
dayº
Yahwehº
madeºº
a covenantº
withº
Abram,º
saying,ºº
Unto thy seedº
have I givenºº
thisºº
land,º
from the riverºº
of Egyptº
untoº
the greatº
river,º
the riverº
Euphrates:º |
 15:19
The Kenites, and the Kenezites, and the Kedmoneans, |
|
 15:19
º
The Kenites,º

and the Kadmonites,º |
 15:20
and the Hittites{gr.Chettites}, and the Perizzites{gr.Pherezites}, and the Raphaim, |

and the Girgashites,º
and the Jebusites.º |
