 11:1 ¶ The word that came to Jeremiah{gr.Jeremias} from the Lord, saying,

 11:1 ¶ The wordº thatº cameº toº Jeremiahº fromºº Yahweh,º saying,ºº

 11:2 Hear ye the words of this covenant, and thou shalt speak to the men of Judah{gr.Juda}, and to the dwellers in Jerusalem;

 11:2 Hearºº yeº the wordsº of thisº covenant,º and speakºº untoº the menº of Judah,º and toº the inhabitantsºº of Jerusalem;º

 11:3 and thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Cursed is the man, who shall not hearken to the words of this covenant,

 11:3 And sayºº thou untoº them, Thusº saithºº Yahwehº Elohimº of Israel;º Cursedºº [be] the manº thatº obeyethºº notºº the wordsº of thisº covenant,º

 11:4 which I commanded your fathers, in the day wherein I brought them up out of the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, out of the iron furnace, saying, Hearken to my voice, and do all things that I shall command you; so shall ye be to me a people, and I will be to you a God;

 11:4 Whichº I commandedººº your fathersº in the dayº [that] I brought them forthººº out of the landºº of Egypt,º from the ironº furnace,ºº saying,ºº Obeyºº my voice,º and doºº them, according to allº whichº I commandºº you: so shall ye beº my people,º and Iº will beº your Elohim:º

 11:5 that I may confirm mine oath, which I sware to your fathers, to give them a land flowing [with] milk and honey, as [it is] this day. Then I answered and said, So be it, O Lord.

 11:5 Thatº I may performººº the oathº whichº I have swornºº unto your fathers,º to giveºº them a landº flowingºº with milkº and honey,º as [it is] thisº day.º Then answeredºº I, and said,ºº So be it,º O Yahweh.º

 11:6 And the Lord said to me, Read these words in the cities of Judah{gr.Juda}, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.

 11:6 Then Yahwehº saidºº untoº me, Proclaimººº allº theseº wordsº in the citiesº of Judah,º and in the streetsº of Jerusalem,º saying,ºº Hearºº yeº the wordsº of thisº covenant,º and doºº them.

 11:7 Forº I earnestlyºº protestedºº unto your fathersº in the dayº [that] I brought them upººº out of the landºº of Egypt,º [even] untoº thisº day,º rising earlyºº and protesting,ºº saying,ºº Obeyºº my voice.º

 11:8 But they did [them] not.

 11:8 Yet they obeyedºº not,º norº inclinedººº their ear,º but walkedººº every oneº in the imaginationº of their evilº heart:º therefore I will bringºº uponº themº allº the wordsº of thisº covenant,º whichº I commandedºº [them] to do;ºº but they didºº [them] not.º

 11:9 And the Lord said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah{gr.Juda}, and among the dwellers in Jerusalem.

 11:9 And Yahwehº saidºº untoº me, A conspiracyº is foundºº among the menº of Judah,º and among the inhabitantsºº of Jerusalem.º

 11:10 They are turned [aside] to the iniquities of their fathers that were of old, who would not hearken to my words: and, behold, they go after strange gods, to serve them: and the house of Israel and the house of Judah{gr.Juda} have broken my covenant, which I made with their fathers.

 11:10 They are turned backºº toº the iniquitiesº of their forefathers,ºº whichº refusedºº to hearººº my words;º and theyº wentºº afterº otherº elohimº to serveºº them: the houseº of Israelº and the houseº of Judahº have brokenººº my covenantº whichº I madeºº withº their fathers.º

 11:11 ¶ Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I bring evils upon this people, out of which they shall not be able to come forth; and they shall presently cry to me, but I will not hearken to them.

 11:11 ¶ Thereforeº thusº saithºº Yahweh,º Behold,º I will bringºº evilº uponº them, whichº they shall notº be ableºº to escape;ººº and though they shall cryºº untoº me, I will notº hearkenºº untoº them.

 11:12 And the cities of Judah{gr.Juda} and the dwellers in Jerusalem shall go, and cry to the gods to whom they burn incense; which shall not deliver them in the time of their troubles.

 11:12 Then shall the citiesº of Judahº and inhabitantsºº of Jerusalemº go,ºº and cryºº untoº the elohimº unto whomº theyº offer incense:ºº but they shall notº saveºº them at allºº in the timeº of their trouble.º

 11:13 For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah{gr.Juda}; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to burn incense to Baal.

 11:13 Forº [according to] the numberº of thy citiesº wereº thy elohim,º O Judah;º and [according to] the numberº of the streetsº of Jerusalemº have ye set upºº altarsº to [that] shameful thing,º [even] altarsº to burn incenseºº unto Baal.º

 11:14 And thou, pray not for this people, and intercede not for them in supplication and prayer: for I will not hear in the day in which they call upon me, in the day of their affliction.

 11:14 Therefore prayºº notº thouº forº thisº people,º neitherº lift upºº a cryº or prayerº forº them: forº Iº will notº hearºº [them] in the timeº that they cryºº untoº me forº their trouble.º

 11:15 Why has [my] beloved wrought abomination in my house? will prayers and holy offerings take away thy wickedness from thee, or shalt thou escape by these things?

 11:15 Whatº hath my belovedº to do in mine house,º [seeing] she hath wroughtºº lewdnessº with many,º and the holyº fleshº is passedºº fromºº thee? whenº thou doest evil,º thenº thou rejoicest.ºº

 11:16 The Lord called thy name a fair olive tree, of a goodly shade in appearance, at the noise of its being lopped, fire was kindled against it; great is the affliction [coming] upon thee: her branches are become good for nothing.

 11:16 Yahwehº calledºº thy name,º A greenº olive tree,º fair,º [and] of goodlyº fruit:º with the noiseº of a greatº tumultº he hath kindledºº fireº uponº it, and the branchesº of it are broken.ºº

 11:17 And the Lord that planted thee has pronounced evils against thee, because of the iniquity of the house of Israel and the house of Judah{gr.Juda}, whatsoever they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger by burning incense to Baal.

 11:17 For Yahwehº Sabaoth,º that plantedºº thee, hath pronouncedºº evilº againstº thee, forºº the evilº of the houseº of Israelº and of the houseº of Judah,º whichº they have doneºº against themselves to provoke me to angerºº in offering incenseºº unto Baal.º

 11:18 ¶ O Lord, teach me, and I shall know: then I saw their practices.

 11:18 ¶ And Yahwehº hath given me knowledgeºº [of it], and I knowºº [it]: thenº thou shewedstºº me their doings.º

 11:19 But I as an innocent lamb led to the slaughter, knew not: against me they devised an evil device, saying, Come and let us put wood into his bread, and let us utterly destroy him from off the land of the living, and let his name not be remembered any more.

 11:19 But Iº [was] like a lambº [or] an oxº [that] is broughtºº to the slaughter;ºº and I knewºº notº thatº they had devisedºº devicesº againstº me, [saying], Let us destroyºº the treeº with the fruitº thereof, and let us cut him offºº from the landºº of the living,º that his nameº may be noº moreº remembered.ºº

 11:20 O Lord, that judgest righteously, trying the reins and hearts, let me see thy vengeance [taken] upon them, for to thee I have declared my cause.

 11:20 But, O Yahwehº Sabaoth,º that judgestºº righteously,º that triestºº the reinsº and the heart,º let me seeºº thy vengeanceº onº them: forº untoº thee have I revealedººº my cause.º

 11:21 Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the men of Anathoth, that seek my life, that say, Thou shalt not prophesy at all in the name of the Lord, but if thou dost, thou shalt die by our hands:

 11:21 Thereforeº thusº saithºº Yahwehº ofº the menºº of Anathoth,º that seekººº thy life,º saying,ºº Prophesyºº notº in the nameº of Yahweh,º that thou dieºº notº by our hand:º

 11:22 behold, I will visit them: their young men shall die by the sword; and their sons and their daughters shall die of famine:

 11:22 Thereforeº thusº saithºº Yahwehº Sabaoth,º Behold,º I will punishººº them: the young menº shall dieºº by the sword;º their sonsº and their daughtersº shall dieºº by famine:º

 11:23 and there shall be no remnant [left] of them; for I will bring evil upon the dwellers in Anathoth, in the year of their visitation.

 11:23 And there shall beº noº remnantº of them: forº I will bringºº evilº uponº the menºº of Anathoth,º [even] the yearº of their visitation.º
