 41:1 ¶ Now it came to pass in the seventh month that Ishmael{gr.Ismael} the son of Nethaniah{gr.Nathanias} the son of Eleasa of the seed royal, came, and ten men with him, to Gedaliah{gr.Godolias} to Mizpeh{gr.Massepha}: and they ate bread there together.

 41:1 ¶ Now it came to passº in the seventhº month,º [that] Ishmaelº the sonº of Nethaniahº the sonº of Elishama,º of the seedºº royal,º and the princesº of the king,º even tenº menºº withº him, cameºº untoº Gedaliahº the sonº of Ahikamº to Mizpah;ºº and thereº they did eatºº breadº togetherº in Mizpah.ºº

 41:2 And Ishmael{gr.Ismael} rose up, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah{gr.Godolias}, whom the king of Babylon had appointed [governor] over the land,

 41:2 Then aroseºº Ishmaelº the sonº of Nethaniah,º and the tenº menºº thatº wereº withº him, and smoteººº Gedaliahº the sonº of Ahikamº the sonº of Shaphanº with the sword,º and slewºº him, whomº the kingº of Babylonº had made governorºº over the land.º

 41:3 and all the Jews that were with him in Mizpeh{gr.Massepha}, and all the Chaldeans that were found there.

 41:3 Ishmaelº also slewºº allº the Jewsº thatº wereº withº him, [even] withº Gedaliah,º at Mizpah,º and the Chaldeansº thatº were foundºº there,º [and] the menºº of war.º

 41:4 And it came to pass on the second day after he had smitten Gedaliah{gr.Godolias}, and no man knew [of it],

 41:4 And it came to passº the secondº dayº after he had slainººº Gedaliah,º and noº manº knewºº [it],

 41:5 that there came men from Shechem{gr.Sychem}, and from Salem, and from Samaria, [even] eighty men, having their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and beating their breasts, and [they had] manna and frankincense in their hands, to bring [them] into the house of the Lord.

 41:5 That there cameºº certainºº from Shechem,ºº from Shiloh,ºº and from Samaria,ºº [even] fourscoreº men,º having their beardsº shaven,ºº and their clothesº rent,ºº and having cutºº themselves,º with offeringsº and incenseº in their hand,º to bringºº [them] to the houseº of Yahweh.º

 41:6 And Ishmael{gr.Ismael} went out to meet them; [and] they went on and wept: and he said to them, Come in to Gedaliah{gr.Godolias}.

 41:6 And Ishmaelº the sonº of Nethaniahº went forthºº fromº Mizpahº to meetºº them, weepingºº all alongºº as he went:ºº and it came to pass,º as he metºº them, he saidºº untoº them, Comeºº toº Gedaliahº the sonº of Ahikam.º

 41:7 And it came to pass, when they had entered into the midst of the city, [that] he slew them [and cast them] into a pit.

 41:7 And it wasº [so], when they cameºº intoº the midstº of the city,º that Ishmaelº the sonº of Nethaniahº slewºº them, [and cast them] intoº the midstº of the pit,º he,º and the menºº thatº [were] withº him.

 41:8 But ten men were found there, and they said to Ishmael{gr.Ismael}, Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, wheat and barley, honey and oil. So he passed by, and slew them not in the midst of their brethren.

 41:8 But tenº menºº were foundºº among them that saidºº untoº Ishmael,º Slayºº us not:º forº we haveº treasuresº in the field,º of wheat,º and of barley,º and of oil,º and of honey.º So he forbare,ºº and slewºº them notº amongº their brethren.º

 41:9 Now the pit into which Ishmael{gr.Ismael} cast all whom he smote, is the great pit, which king Asa had made for fear of Baasha{gr.Baasa} king of Israel: [even] this Ishmael{gr.Ismael} filled with slain men.

 41:9 Now the pitº whereinºº Ishmaelº had castººº allº the dead bodiesº of the men,ºº whomº he had slainºº becauseº of Gedaliah,º [was] itº whichº Asaº the kingº had madeºº for fearºº of Baashaº kingº of Israel:º [and] Ishmaelº the sonº of Nethaniahº filledºº it with [them that were] slain.º

 41:10 And Ishmael{gr.Ismael} brought back all the people that were left in Mizpeh{gr.Massepha}, and the king's daughter, whom the captain of the guard had committed in charge to Gedaliah{gr.Godolias} the son of Ahikam{gr.Achicam}: and he went away beyond the children of Ammon.

 41:10 Then Ishmaelº carried away captiveººº allº the residueº of the peopleº thatº [were] in Mizpah,º [even]º the king'sº daughters,º and allº the peopleº that remainedºº in Mizpah,º whomº Nebuzaradanº the captainº of the guardº had committedºº toº Gedaliahº the sonº of Ahikam:º and Ishmaelº the sonº of Nethaniahº carried them away captive,ºº and departedººº to go overºº toº the Ammonites.ºº

 41:11 ¶ And Johanan{gr.Joanan} the son of Caree, and all the leaders of the host that were with him, heard of all the evil deeds which Ishmael{gr.Ismael} had done.

 41:11 ¶ But when Johananº the sonº of Kareah,º and allº the captainsº of the forcesº thatº [were] withº him, heardºº ofº allº the evilº thatº Ishmaelº the sonº of Nethaniahº had done,ºº

 41:12 And they brought all their army, and went to fight against him, and found him near much water in Gibeon{gr.Gabaon}.

 41:12 Then they tookººº allº the men,ºº and wentººº to fightºº withº Ishmaelº the sonº of Nethaniah,º and foundºº him byº the greatº watersº thatº [are] in Gibeon.º

 41:13 And it came to pass, when all the people that was with Ishmael{gr.Ismael} saw Johanan{gr.Joanan}, and the leaders of the host that was with him,

 41:13 Now it came to pass,º [that] when allº the peopleº whichº [were] withº Ishmaelº sawººº Johananº the sonº of Kareah,º and allº the captainsº of the forcesº thatº [were] withº him, then they were glad.ºº

 41:14 that they returned to Johanan{gr.Joanan}.

 41:14 So allº the peopleº thatº Ishmaelº had carried away captiveºº fromº Mizpahº cast aboutºº and returned,ºº and wentººº untoº Johananº the sonº of Kareah.º

 41:15 But Ishmael{gr.Ismael} escaped with eight men and went to the children of Ammon.

 41:15 But Ishmaelº the sonº of Nethaniahº escapedºº fromºº Johananº with eightº men,ºº and wentººº toº the Ammonites.ºº

 41:16 And Johanan{gr.Joanan}, and all the leaders of the host that were with him, took all the remnant of the people, whom he [had] brought back from Ishmael{gr.Ismael}, mighty men in war, and the women, and the other [property], and the eunuchs, whom they [had] brought back from Gibeon{gr.Gabaon}:

 41:16 Then tookºº Johananº the sonº of Kareah,º and allº the captainsº of the forcesº thatº [were] withº him,º allº the remnantº of the peopleº whomº he had recoveredºº fromºº Ishmaelº the sonº of Nethaniah,º fromº Mizpah,º afterº [that] he had slainººº Gedaliahº the sonº of Ahikam,º [even] mightyº menºº of war,º and the women,º and the children,º and the eunuchs,º whomº he had brought againºº from Gibeon:ºº

 41:17 and they departed, and dwelt in Gaberoch-amaa, that is by Bethlehem{gr.Bethleem}, to go into Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, for fear of the Chaldeans:

 41:17 And they departed,ººº and dweltº inºº the habitationº of Chimham,º whichº is byº Bethlehem,º to goººº to enterºº intoº Egypt,º

 41:18 for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael{gr.Ismael} had smitten Gedaliah{gr.Godolias}, whom the king of Babylon made [governor] in the land.

 41:18 Becauseºº of the Chaldeans:º forº they were afraidºº ofºº them, becauseº Ishmaelº the sonº of Nethaniahº had slainººº Gedaliahº the sonº of Ahikam,º whomº the kingº of Babylonº made governorºº in the land.º
