 14:1 ¶
And the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and they shall rest on their land: and the stranger shall be added to them, yea, shall be added to the house of Jacob. |
|
 14:1 ¶
Forº
Yahwehº
will have mercyºº
onº
Jacob,º
and will yetº
chooseºº
Israel,º
and setººº
them inº
their own land:º
and the strangersº
shall be joinedºº
withº
them, and they shall cleaveºº
toº
the houseº
of Jacob.º |
 14:2
And the Gentiles shall take them, and bring them into their place: and they shall inherit them, and they shall be multiplied upon the land for servants and handmaidens: and they that took them captives shall become captives [to them]; and they that had lordship over them shall be under [their] rule. |
|
 14:2
And the peopleº
shall takeºº
them, and bringºº
them toº
their place:º
and the houseº
of Israelº
shall possessºº
them inº
the landº
of Yahwehº
for servantsº
and handmaids:º
and they shall takeº
them captives,ºº
whose captivesºº
they were; and they shall ruleºº
overº
their oppressors.ºº |
 14:3
And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the Lord shall give thee rest from thy sorrow and vexation, [and from] thy hard servitude wherein thou didst serve them. |
|
 14:3
And it shall come to passº
in the dayº
that Yahwehº
shall give thee restºº
from thy sorrow,ºº
and from thy fear,ºº
and fromº
the hardº
bondageº
whereinº
thou wast made to serve,ºº |
 14:4 ¶
And thou shalt take up this lamentation against the king of Babylon, How has the extortioner ceased, and the taskmaster ceased! |
|
 14:4 ¶
That thou shalt take upºº
thisº
proverbº
againstº
the kingº
of Babylon,º
and say,ºº
Howº
hath the oppressorºº
ceased!ºº
the golden cityº
ceased!ºº |
 14:5
The Lord has broken the yoke of sinners, the yoke of princes. |
|
 14:5
Yahwehº
hath brokenºº
the staffº
of the wicked,º
[and] the sceptreº
of the rulers.ºº |
 14:6
Having smitten a nation in wrath, with an incurable plague, smiting a nation with a wrathful plague, which spared [them] not, he rested in quiet. |
|
 14:6
He who smoteºº
the peopleº
in wrathº
with a continualºº
stroke,ººº
he that ruledºº
the nationsº
in anger,º
is persecuted,º
[and] noneº
hindereth.ºº |
 14:7
All the earth cries aloud with joy: |
|
 14:7
The wholeº
earthº
is at rest,ºº
[and] is quiet:ºº
they break forthºº
into singing.º |
 14:8
the trees also of Lebanon{gr.Libanus} rejoice against thee, and the cedar of Lebanon{gr.Libanus}, [saying], From the time that thou hast been laid low, no one has come up to cut us down. |
|
 14:8
Yea,º
the fir treesº
rejoiceºº
at thee, [and] the cedarsº
of Lebanon,º
[saying], Sinceºº
thou art laid down,ºº
noº
fellerºº
is come upºº
againstº
us. |
 14:9
Hell from beneath is provoked to meet thee: all the great ones that have ruled over the earth have risen up together against thee, they that have raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. |
|
 14:9
Hellº
from beneathºº
is movedºº
for thee to meetººº
[thee] at thy coming:ºº
it stirreth upºº
the deadº
for thee, [even] allº
the chief onesº
of the earth;º
it hath raised upºº
from their thronesºº
allº
the kingsº
of the nations.º |
 14:10
All shall answer and say to thee, Thou also hast been taken, even as we; and thou art numbered amongst us. |
|
 14:10
Allº
they shall speakºº
and sayºº
unto thee, Art thouº
alsoº
become weakºº
as we? art thou become likeºº
untoº
us? |
 14:11
Thy glory has come down to the grave{gr.Hades}, and thy great mirth: under thee they shall spread corruption, and the worm shall be thy covering. |
|
 14:11
Thy pompº
is brought downºº
to the grave,º
[and] the noiseº
of thy viols:º
the wormº
is spreadºº
underº
thee, and the wormsº
coverº
thee. |
 14:12
How has Lucifer, that rose in the morning, fallen from heaven! He that sent [orders] to all the nations is crushed to the earth. |
|
 14:12
Howº
art thou fallenºº
from heaven,ºº
O Lucifer,º
sonº
of the morning!ºººº
[how] art thou cut downºº
to the ground,º
which didst weakenººº
the nations!º |
 14:13
But thou saidst in thine heart, I will go up to heaven, I will set my throne above the stars of heaven: I will sit on a lofty mount, on the lofty mountains toward the north: |
|
 14:13
For thouº
hast saidºº
in thine heart,º
I will ascendºº
into heaven,º
I will exaltºº
my throneº
aboveºº
the starsº
of El:º
I will sitºº
also upon the mountº
of the congregation,º
in the sidesº
of the north:º |
 14:14
I will go up above the clouds: I will be like the Most High. |
|
 14:14
I will ascendºº
aboveº
the heightsº
of the clouds;º
I will be likeºº
Elyon.º |
 14:15
But now thou shalt go down to hell, even to the foundations of the earth. |
|
 14:15
Yetº
thou shalt be brought downºº
toº
hell,º
toº
the sidesº
of the pit.º |
 14:16
They that see thee shall wonder at thee, and say, This is the man that troubled the earth, that made kings to shake; |
|
 14:16
They that seeºº
thee shall narrowly lookºº
uponº
thee, [and] considerºº
thee, [saying, Is] thisº
the manº
that made the earthº
to tremble,ºº
that did shakeºº
kingdoms;º |
 14:17
that made the whole world desolate, and destroyed its cities; he loosed not those who were in captivity. |
|
 14:17
[That] madeºº
the worldº
as a wilderness,º
and destroyedºº
the citiesº
thereof; [that] openedºº
notº
the houseº
of his prisoners?º |
 14:18
All the kings of the nations lie in honour, [every] man in his house. |
|
 14:18
Allº
the kingsº
of the nations,º
[even] allº
of them, lieºº
in glory,º
every oneº
in his own house.º |
 14:19
But thou shalt be cast forth on the mountains, as a loathed carcase, with many dead who have been pierced with swords, going down to the grave. |
|
 14:19
But thouº
art castº
outºº
of thy graveºº
like an abominableºº
branch,º
[and as] the raimentº
of those that are slain,ºº
thrust throughºº
with a sword,º
that go downºº
toº
the stonesº
of the pit;º
as a carcaseº
trodden under feet.ºº |
 14:20
As a garment defiled with blood shall not be pure, so neither shalt thou be pure; because thou hast destroyed my land, and hast slain my people: thou shalt not endure for ever,-- [thou] an evil seed. |
|
 14:20
Thou shalt notº
be joinedºº
withº
them in burial,º
becauseº
thou hast destroyedºº
thy land,º
[and] slainºº
thy people:º
the seedº
of evildoersºº
shall neverºº
be renowned.ºº |
 14:21
Prepare thy children to be slain for the sins of their father; that they arise not, and inherit the earth, nor fill the earth with wars. |
|
 14:21
Prepareºº
slaughterº
for his childrenº
for the iniquityº
of their fathers;º
that they do notº
rise,ºº
nor possessºº
the land,º
nor fillºº
the faceº
of the worldº
with cities.ººº |
 14:22
And I will rise up against them, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will destroy their name, and remnant, and seed: thus saith the Lord. |
|
 14:22
For I will rise upºº
againstº
them, saithºº
Yahwehº
Sabaoth,º
and cut offºº
from Babylonº
the name,º
and remnant,º
and son,º
and nephew,º
saithºº
Yahweh.º |
 14:23
And I will make the region of Babylon desert, so that hedgehogs shall dwell [there], and it shall come to nothing: and I will make it a pit of clay for destruction. |
|
 14:23
I will also makeºº
it a possessionº
for the bittern,º
and poolsº
of water:º
and I will sweepºº
it with the besomº
of destruction,ºº
saithºº
Yahwehº
Sabaoth.º |
 14:24 ¶
Thus saith the Lord of hosts, As I have said, so it shall be: and as I have purposed, so [the matter] shall remain: |
|
 14:24 ¶
Yahwehº
Sabaothº
hath sworn,ºº
saying,ºº
Surelyºº
asº
I have thought,ºº
soº
shall it come to pass;º
and asº
I have purposed,ºº
[so] shall itº
stand:ºº |
 14:25
[even] to destroy the Assyrians upon my land, and upon my mountains: and they shall be for trampling; and their yoke shall be taken away from them, and their glory shall be taken away from their shoulders. |
|
 14:25
That I will breakºº
the Assyrianº
in my land,º
and uponº
my mountainsº
tread him under foot:ºº
then shall his yokeº
departºº
from offºº
them, and his burdenº
departºº
from offºº
their shoulders.º |
 14:26
This is the purpose which the Lord has purposed upon the whole earth: and this the hand that is uplifted against all the nations. |
|
 14:26
Thisº
[is] the purposeº
that is purposedºº
uponº
the wholeº
earth:º
and thisº
[is] the handº
that is stretched outºº
uponº
allº
the nations.º |
 14:27
For what the Holy God has purposed, who shall frustrate? and who shall turn back his uplifted hand? |
|
 14:27
Forº
Yahwehº
Sabaothº
hath purposed,ºº
and whoº
shall disannulºº
[it]? and his handº
[is] stretched out,ºº
and whoº
shall turn it back?ºº |
 14:28
In the year in which king Ahaz{gr.Achaz} died this word came. |
|
 14:28
In the yearº
that kingº
Ahazº
diedº
wasº
thisº
burden.º |
 14:29 ¶
Rejoice not, all ye Philistines, because the yoke of him that smote you is broken: for out of the seed of the serpent shall come forth the young asps, and their young shall come forth flying serpents, |
|
 14:29 ¶
Rejoiceºº
notº
thou, wholeº
Palestina,º
becauseº
the rodº
of him thatº
smoteºº
thee is broken:ºº
for out of the serpent'sº
rootººº
shall come forthºº
a cockatrice,º
and his fruitº
[shall be] a fieryºº
flyingºº
serpent.ºº |
 14:30
And the poor shall be fed by him, and poor men shall rest in peace: but he shall destroy thy seed with hunger, and shall destroy thy remnant. |
|
 14:30
And the firstbornº
of the poorº
shall feed,ºº
and the needyº
shall lie downºº
in safety:º
and I will killºº
thy rootº
with famine,º
and he shall slayºº
thy remnant.º |
 14:31
Howl, ye gates of cities; let the cities be troubled and cry, [even] all the Philistines: for smoke is coming from the north, and there is no [possibility] of living. |
|
 14:31
Howl,ºº
O gate;º
cry,ºº
O city;º
thou, wholeº
Palestina,º
[art] dissolved:ºº
forº
there shall comeºº
from the northºº
a smoke,º
and noneº
[shall be] aloneºº
in his appointed times.º |
 14:32
And what shall the kings of the nations answer? That the Lord has founded Zion{gr.Sion}, and by him the poor of the people shall be saved. |
|
 14:32
Whatº
shall [one] then answerºº
the messengersº
of the nation?º
Thatº
Yahwehº
hath foundedºº
Zion,º
and the poorº
of his peopleº
shall trustºº
in it. |
