 18:1 ¶ Woe to you, ye wings of the land of ships, beyond the rivers of Ethiopia.

 18:1 ¶ Woeº to the landº shadowingº with wings,º whichº [is] beyondºº the riversº of Ethiopia:º

 18:2 He sends messengers by the sea, and paper letters on the water: for swift messengers shall go to a lofty nation, and to a strange and harsh people. Who is beyond it? a nation not looked for, and trodden down.

 18:2 That sendethºº ambassadorsº by the sea,º even in vesselsº of bulrushesº uponºº the waters,º [saying], Go,ººº ye swiftº messengers,º toº a nationº scatteredºº and peeled,ºº toº a peopleº terribleºº fromº their beginningº hitherto;º a nationº meted outºº and trodden down,º whoseº landº the riversº have spoiled!ºº

 18:3 Now all the rivers of the land shall be inhabited as an inhabited country; their land shall be as when a signal is raised from a mountain; it shall be audible as the sound of a trumpet.

 18:3 Allº ye inhabitantsºº of the world,º and dwellersºº on the earth,º seeºº ye, when he lifteth upºº an ensignº on the mountains;º and when he blowethºº a trumpet,º hearºº ye.

 18:4 For thus said the Lord to me, There shall be security in my city, as the light of noonday heat, and it shall be as a cloud of dew in the day of harvest.

 18:4 Forº soº Yahwehº saidºº untoº me, I will take my rest,ºº and I will considerºº in my dwelling placeº like a clearº heatº uponº herbs,º [and] like a cloudº of dewº in the heatº of harvest.º

 18:5 Before the reaping time, when the flower has been completely formed, and the unripe grape has put forth its flower and blossomed, then shall he take away the little clusters with pruning-hooks, and shall take away the small branches, and cut them off;

 18:5 Forº aforeº the harvest,º when the budº is perfect,ºº and the sour grapeº isº ripeningºº in the flower,º he shall both cut offºº the sprigsº with pruning hooks,º and take awayºº [and] cut downºº the branches.º

 18:6 And he shall leave [them] together to the birds of the sky, and to the wild beasts of the earth: and the fowls of the sky shall be gathered upon them, and all the beasts of the land shall come upon him.

 18:6 They shall be leftºº togetherº unto the fowlsº of the mountains,º and to the beastsº of the earth:º and the fowlsº shall summerºº uponº them, and allº the beastsº of the earthº shall winterºº uponº them.

 18:7 ¶ In that time shall presents be brought to the Lord of hosts from a people afflicted and peeled, and from a people great from henceforth and for ever; a nation hoping and [yet] trodden down, which is in a part of a river of his land, to the place where is the name of the Lord of hosts, the mount Zion{gr.Sion}.

 18:7 ¶ In thatº timeº shall the presentº be broughtºº unto Yahwehº Sabaothº of a peopleº scatteredºº and peeled,ºº and from a peopleºº terribleºº fromº their beginningº hitherto;º a nationº meted outºº and trodden under foot,º whoseº landº the riversº have spoiled,ºº toº the placeº of the nameº of Yahwehº Sabaoth,º the mountº Zion.º
