 31:1 ¶ Woe to them that go down to Mizraim{gr.Egypt} for help, who trust in horses and chariots, for they are many; and in horses, [which are] a great multitude; and have not trusted in the Holy One of Israel, and have not sought the Lord.

 31:1 ¶ Woeº to them that go downºº to Egyptº for help;º and stayºº onº horses,º and trustºº inº chariots,º becauseº [they are] many;º and inº horsemen,º becauseº they are veryº strong;ººº but they lookºº notº untoº the Holy Oneº of Israel,º neitherº seekºº Yahweh!º

 31:2 Therefore he has wisely brought evils upon them, and his word shall not be frustrated; and he shall rise up against the houses of wicked men, and against their vain hope,

 31:2 Yet heº alsoº [is] wise,º and will bringºº evil,º and will notº call backºº his words:º but will ariseºº againstº the houseº of the evildoers,ºº and againstº the helpº of them that workºº iniquity.º

 31:3 [even] a Mizraimite{gr.Egyptian}, a man, and not God; the flesh of horses, and there is no help [in them]: but the Lord shall bring his hand upon them, and the helpers shall fail, and all shall perish together.

 31:3 Now the Egyptiansº [are] men,º and notº El;º and their horsesº flesh,º and notº spirit.º When Yahwehº shall stretch outºº his hand,º both he that helpethºº shall fall,ºº and he that is holpenºº shall fall down,ºº and they allº shall failºº together.º

 31:4 For thus said the Lord to me, As a lion would roar, or a lion's whelp over prey which he has taken, and cry over it, until the mountains are filled with his voice, and [the animals] are awe-struck and tremble at the fierceness of his wrath: so the Lord of hosts shall descend to fight upon the mount Zion{gr.Sion}, [even] upon her mountains.

 31:4 Forº thusº hath Yahwehº spokenºº untoº me, Like asº the lionº and the young lionº roaringºº onº his prey,º whenº a multitudeº of shepherdsºº is called forthºº againstº him, [he] will notº be afraidºº of their voice,ºº norº abaseºº himself for the noiseºº of them: soº shall Yahwehº Sabaothº come downºº to fightºº forº mountº Zion,º and forº the hillº thereof.

 31:5 As birds flying, so shall the Lord of hosts defend; he shall defend Jerusalem, and he shall rescue, and save and deliver.

 31:5 As birdsº flying,ºº soº will Yahwehº Sabaothº defendººº Jerusalem;º defendingºº also he will deliverºº [it; and] passing overºº he will preserveºº it.

 31:6 ¶ Turn, ye children of Israel, who devise a deep and sinful counsel.

 31:6 ¶ Turnºº ye unto [him from] whomº the childrenº of Israelº have deeplyºº revolted.º

 31:7 For in that day men shall renounce their silver idols and [their] golden idols, which their hands made.

 31:7 Forº in thatº dayº every manº shall cast awayºº his idolsº of silver,º and his idolsº of gold,º whichº your own handsº have madeºº unto you [for] a sin.º

 31:8 ¶ And the Assyrian shall fall: not the sword of a great man, nor the sword of a mean man shall devour him; neither shall he flee from the face of the sword: but the young men shall be overthrown:

 31:8 ¶ Then shall the Assyrianº fallºº with the sword,º notº of a mighty man;º and the sword,º notº of a mean man,º shall devourºº him: but he shall fleeºº fromºº the sword,º and his young menº shall beº discomfited.º

 31:9 for they shall be compassed with rocks as with a trench, and shall be worsted; and he that flees shall be taken. Thus saith the Lord, Blesses is he that has a seed in Zion{gr.Sion}, and household friends in Jerusalem.

 31:9 And he shall pass overºº to his strong holdº for fear,ºº and his princesº shall be afraidºº of the ensign,ºº saithºº Yahweh,º whoseº fireº [is] in Zion,º and his furnaceº in Jerusalem.º
