 20:1 ¶ In the year when Tanathan came to Ashdod{gr.Azotus}, when he was sent by Arna king of the Assyrians, and warred against Ashdod{gr.Azotus}, and took it;

 20:1 ¶ In the yearº that Tartanº cameºº unto Ashdod,º (when Sargonº the kingº of Assyriaº sentºº him,) and foughtºº against Ashdod,º and tookºº it;

 20:2 then the Lord spoke to Isaiah{gr.Esaias} the son of Amos, saying, Go and take the sackcloth off thy loins, and loose thy sandals from off thy feet, and do thus, going naked and barefoot.

 20:2 At the sameº timeº spakeºº Yahwehº byº Isaiahº the sonº of Amoz,º saying,ºº Goººº and looseºº the sackclothº from offºº thy loins,º and put offºº thy shoeº fromºº thy foot.º And he didº so,ººº walkingºº nakedº and barefoot.º

 20:3 And the Lord said, As my servant Isaiah{gr.Esaias} has walked naked and barefoot three years, there shall be three years for signs and wonders to the Mizraimites{gr.Egyptians} and Ethiopians;

 20:3 And Yahwehº said,ºº Like asº my servantº Isaiahº hath walkedºº nakedº and barefootº threeº yearsº [for] a signº and wonderº uponº Egyptº and uponº Ethiopia;º

 20:4 for thus shall the king of the Assyrians lead the captivity of Mizraim{gr.Egypt} and the Ethiopians, young men and old, naked and barefoot, having the shame of Mizraim{gr.Egypt} exposed.

 20:4 Soº shall the kingº of Assyriaº lead awayººº the Egyptiansº prisoners,º and the Ethiopiansº captives,º youngº and old,º nakedº and barefoot,º even with [their] buttocksº uncovered,ºº to the shameº of Egypt.º

 20:5 And the Mizraimites{gr.Egyptians} being defeated shall be ashamed of the Ethiopians, in whom they had trusted; for they were their glory.

 20:5 And they shall be afraidºº and ashamedºº of Ethiopiaºº their expectation,º and ofº Egyptº their glory.º

 20:6 And they that dwell in this island shall say in that day, Behold, we trusted to flee to them for help, who could not save themselves from the king of the Assyrians: and how shall we be saved?

 20:6 And the inhabitantºº of thisº isleº shall sayºº in thatº day,º Behold,º suchº [is] our expectation,º whitherºº we fleeºº for helpº to be deliveredºº fromºº the kingº of Assyria:º and howº shall weº escape?ºº
