 38:1 ¶
And it came to pass at that time, [that] Hezekiah{gr.Ezekias} was sick even to death. And Isaiah{gr.Esaias} the prophet the son of Amos came to him, and said to him, Thus saith the Lord, Give orders concerning thy house: for thou shalt die, and not live. |
|
 38:1 ¶
In thoseº
daysº
was Hezekiahº
sickººº
unto death.ºº
And Isaiahº
the prophetº
the sonº
of Amozº
cameºº
untoº
him, and saidºº
untoº
him, Thusº
saithºº
Yahweh,º
Set thine houseº
in order:ººº
forº
thouº
shalt die,ºº
and notº
live.ºº |
 38:2
And Hezekiah{gr.Ezekias} turned his face to the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying, |
|
 38:2
Then Hezekiahº
turnedºº
his faceº
towardº
the wall,º
and prayedºº
untoº
Yahweh,º |
 38:3
Remember, O Lord, how I have walked before thee in truth, with a true heart, and have done that which was pleasing in thy sight. And Hezekiah{gr.Ezekias} wept bitterly. |
|
 38:3
And said,ºº
Rememberºº
now,º
O Yahweh,º
I beseechº
thee,ºº
howº
I have walkedºº
beforeº
thee in truthº
and with a perfectº
heart,º
and have doneºº
[that which is] goodº
in thy sight.º
And Hezekiahº
weptººº
sore.ºº |
 38:4 ¶
And the word of the Lord came to Isaiah{gr.Esaias}, saying, Go, and say to Hezekiah{gr.Ezekias}, |
|
 38:4 ¶
Then cameº
the wordº
of Yahwehº
toº
Isaiah,º
saying,ºº |
 38:5
Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, and seen thy tears: behold, I [will] add to thy time fifteen years. |
|
 38:5
Go,ºº
and sayºº
toº
Hezekiah,º
Thusº
saithºº
Yahweh,º
the Elohimº
of Davidº
thy father,º
I have heardººº
thy prayer,º
I have seenººº
thy tears:º
behold,º
I will addºº
untoº
thy daysº
fifteenºº
years.º |
 38:6
And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians: and I will defend this city. |
|
 38:6
And I will deliverºº
thee and thisº
cityº
out of the handºº
of the kingº
of Assyria:º
and I will defendººº
thisº
city.º |
 38:7
And this [shall be] a sign to thee from the Lord, that God will do this thing; |
|
 38:7
And thisº
[shall be] a signº
unto thee fromºº
Yahweh,º
thatº
Yahwehº
will doººº
thisº
thingº
thatº
he hath spoken;ºº |
 38:8
behold, I will turn back the shadow of the degrees [of the dial] by which ten degrees on the house of thy father the sun has gone down-- I will turn back the sun the ten degrees; so the sun went back the ten degrees by which the shadow had gone down. |
|
 38:8
Behold,º
I will bring againººº
the shadowº
of the degrees,º
whichº
is gone downºº
in the sunº
dialº
of Ahaz,º
tenº
degreesº
backward.º
So the sunº
returnedºº
tenº
degrees,º
by whichº
degreesº
it was gone down.ºº |
 38:9 ¶
THE PRAYER OF HEZEKIAH{gr.EZEKIAS} KING OF JUDAH{gr.JUDEA}, WHEN HE HAD BEEN SICK, AND WAS RECOVERED FROM HIS SICKNESS. |
|
 38:9 ¶
The writingº
of Hezekiahº
kingº
of Judah,º
when he had been sick,ºº
and was recoveredºº
of his sickness:ºº |
 38:10
I said in the end of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I shall part with the remainder of my years. |
|
 38:10
Iº
saidºº
in the cutting offº
of my days,º
I shall goººº
to the gatesº
of the grave:º
I am deprivedºº
of the residueº
of my years.º |
 38:11
I said, I shall no more at all see the salvation of God in the land of the living: I shall no more at all see the salvation of Israel on the earth: I shall no more at all see man. |
|
 38:11
I said,ºº
I shall notº
seeºº
Yah,º
[even] Yah,º
in the landº
of the living:º
I shall beholdºº
manº
noº
moreº
withº
the inhabitantsºº
of the world.º |
 38:12
[My life] has failed from among my kindred: I have parted with the remainder of my life: it has gone forth and departed from me, as one that having pitched a tent takes it down [again]: my breath was with me as a weaver's web, when she that weaves draws nigh to cut off [the] thread. |
|
 38:12
Mine ageº
is departed,ºº
and is removedºº
fromº
me as a shepherd'sº
tent:º
I have cut offºº
like a weaverºº
my life:º
he will cut me offºº
with pining sickness:ºº
from dayºº
[even] toº
nightº
wilt thou make an endºº
of me. |
 38:13
In that day I was given up as to a lion until the morning: so has he broken all my bones: for I was so given up from day [even] to night. |
|
 38:13
I reckonedºº
tillº
morning,º
[that], as a lion,º
soº
will he breakºº
allº
my bones:º
from dayºº
[even] toº
nightº
wilt thou make an endºº
of me. |
 38:14
As a swallow, so will I cry, and as a dove, so do I mourn: for mine eyes have failed with looking to the height of heaven to the Lord, who has delivered me, |
|
 38:14
Like a craneº
[or] a swallow,º
soº
did I chatter:ºº
I did mournºº
as a dove:º
mine eyesº
failºº
[with looking] upward:º
O Yahweh,ºº
I am oppressed;º
undertakeººº
for me. |
 38:15
and removed the sorrow of my soul. |
|
 38:15
Whatº
shall I say?ºº
he hath both spokenºº
unto me, and himselfº
hath doneºº
[it]: I shall go softlyºº
allº
my yearsº
inº
the bitternessº
of my soul.º |
 38:16
[Yea], O Lord, for it was told thee concerning this; and thou hast revived my breath; and I am comforted, and live. |
|
 38:16
O Yahweh,º
byº
these [things men] live,ºº
and in allº
theseº
[things is] the lifeº
of my spirit:º
so wilt thou recoverºº
me, and make me to live.ºº |
 38:17
For thou hast chosen my soul, that it should not perish: and thou hast cast all [my] sins behind me. |
|
 38:17
Behold,º
for peaceº
I had great bitterness:ººº
but thouº
hast in loveºº
to my soulº
[delivered it] from the pitºº
of corruption:º
forº
thou hast castºº
allº
my sinsº
behindº
thy back.º |
 38:18
For they that are in the grave shall not praise thee, neither shall the dead bless thee, neither shall they that are in the grave{gr.Hades} hope for thy mercy. |
|
 38:18
Forº
the graveº
cannotº
praiseºº
thee, deathº
can [not] celebrateºº
thee: they that go downºº
into the pitº
cannotº
hopeºº
forº
thy truth.º |
 38:19
The living shall bless thee, as I also [do]: for from this day shall I beget children, who shall declare thy righteousness, |
|
 38:19
The living,º
the living,º
heº
shall praiseºº
thee, as I [do] this day:º
the fatherº
to the childrenº
shall make knownººº
thy truth.º |
 38:20
O God of my salvation; and I will not cease blessing thee with the psaltery all the days of my life before the house of God. |
|
 38:20
Yahwehº
[was ready] to saveºº
me: therefore we will sing my songsºº
to the stringed instrumentsººº
allº
the daysº
of our lifeº
inº
the houseº
of Yahweh.º |
 38:21
Now Isaiah{gr.Esaias} had said to Hezekiah{gr.Ezekias}; Take a cake of figs, and mash them, and apply them as a plaster, and thou shalt be well. |
|
 38:21
For Isaiahº
had said,ºº
Let them takeºº
a lumpº
of figs,º
and lay [it] for a plaisterºº
uponº
the boil,º
and he shall recover.ºº |
 38:22
And Hezekiah{gr.Ezekias} said, This is a sign to Hezekiah{gr.Ezekias}, that I shall go up to the house of God. |
|
 38:22
Hezekiahº
also had said,ºº
Whatº
[is] the signº
thatº
I shall go upºº
to the houseº
of Yahweh?º |
