 21:1 ¶
THE VISION OF THE DESERT. As though a whirlwind should pass through the desert, coming from a desert, [even] from such a land, |
|
 21:1 ¶
The burdenº
of the desertº
of the sea.º
As whirlwindsº
in the southº
passºº
through;º
[so] it comethºº
from the desert,ºº
from a terribleºº
land.ºº |
 21:2
[so] a fearful and a grievous vision was declared to me: he that is treacherous deals treacherously, the transgressor transgresses. The Elamites are upon me, and the ambassadors of the Persians come against me: now will I groan and comfort myself. |
|
 21:2
A grievousº
visionº
is declaredºº
unto me; the treacherous dealerºº
dealeth treacherously,ºº
and the spoilerºº
spoileth.ºº
Go up,ºº
O Elam:º
besiege,ºº
O Media;º
allº
the sighingº
thereof have I made to cease.ºº |
 21:3
Therefore are my loins filled with feebleness, and pangs have seized me as a travailing woman: I dealt wrongfully that I might not hear; I hasted that I might not see. |
|
 21:3
Thereforeºº
are my loinsº
filledºº
with pain:º
pangsº
have taken holdºº
upon me, as the pangsº
of a woman that travaileth:ºº
I was bowed downºº
at the hearingººº
[of it]; I was dismayedºº
at the seeingººº
[of it]. |
 21:4
My heart wanders, and transgression overwhelms me; my soul is occupied with fear. |
|
 21:4
My heartº
panted,ºº
fearfulnessº
affrightedººº
me: the nightº
of my pleasureº
hath he turnedºº
into fearº
unto me. |
 21:5
Prepare the table, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and prepare [your] shields. |
|
 21:5
Prepareºº
the table,º
watchºº
in the watchtower,º
eat,ºº
drink:ºº
arise,ºº
ye princes,º
[and] anointºº
the shield.º |
 21:6
For thus said the Lord to me, Go and station a watchman for thyself, and declare whatever thou shalt see. |
|
 21:6
Forº
thusº
hath Yahwehº
saidºº
untoº
me, Go,ººº
setºº
a watchman,ºº
let him declareºº
whatº
he seeth.ºº |
 21:7
And I saw two mounted horsemen, and a rider on an ass, and a rider on a camel. |
|
 21:7
And he sawºº
a chariotº
[with] a coupleº
of horsemen,º
a chariotº
of asses,º
[and] a chariotº
of camels;º
and he hearkenedºº
diligentlyº
with muchº
heed:º |
 21:8
Hearken with great attention, and call thou Uriah{gr.Urias} to the watch-tower: the Lord has spoken. I stood continually during the day, and I stood in the camp all night: |
|
 21:8
And he cried,ºº
A lion:º
Yahweh,ºº
Iº
standºº
continuallyº
uponº
the watchtowerº
in the daytime,º
and Iº
am setºº
inº
my wardº
wholeº
nights:º |
 21:9
and, behold, he comes riding in a chariot and pair: and he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all her images and her idols have been crushed to the ground. |
|
 21:9
And, behold,º
hereº
comethºº
a chariotº
of men,º
[with] a coupleº
of horsemen.º
And he answeredºº
and said,ºº
Babylonº
is fallen,ºº
is fallen;ºº
and allº
the graven imagesº
of her elohimº
he hath brokenºº
unto the ground.º |
 21:10
Hear, ye that are left, and ye that are in pain, hear what things I have heard of the Lord of hosts [which] the God of Israel has declared to us. |
|
 21:10
O my threshing,º
and the cornº
of my floor:º
that whichº
I have heardºº
ofºº
Yahwehº
Sabaoth,º
the Elohimº
of Israel,º
have I declaredºº
unto you. |
 21:11 ¶
THE VISION OF EDOM{gr.IDUMEA}. Call to me out of Seir; guard ye the bulwarks. |
|
 21:11 ¶
The burdenº
of Dumah.º
He callethºº
toº
me out of Seir,ºº
Watchman,ºº
whatº
of the night?ºº
Watchman,ºº
whatº
of the night?ºº |
 21:12
I watch in the morning and the night: if thou wouldest enquire, enquire, and dwell by me. |
|
 21:12
The watchmanºº
said,ºº
The morningº
cometh,ºº
and alsoº
the night:º
ifº
ye will enquire,ºº
enquireºº
ye: return,ºº
come.ºº |
 21:13 ¶
Thou mayest lodge in the forest in the evening, or in the way of Dedan{gr.Daedan}. |
|
 21:13 ¶
The burdenº
upon Arabia.º
In the forestº
in Arabiaº
shall ye lodge,ºº
O ye travelling companiesº
of Dedanim.º |
 21:14
Ye that dwell in the country of Teman{gr.Thaeman}, bring water to meet him that is thirsty; |
|
 21:14
The inhabitantsºº
of the landº
of Temaº
broughtºº
waterº
to himºº
that was thirsty,º
they preventedºº
with their breadº
him that fled.ºº |
 21:15
meet the fugitives with bread, because of the multitude of the slain, and because of the multitude of them that lose their way, and because of the multitude of swords, and because of the multitude of bent bows, and because of the multitude of them that have fallen in war. |
|
 21:15
Forº
they fledºº
fromºº
the swords,º
fromºº
the drawnºº
sword,º
and fromºº
the bentºº
bow,º
and fromºº
the grievousnessº
of war.º |
 21:16
For thus said the Lord to me, Yet a year, as the year of an hireling, [and] the glory of the sons of Kedar shall fail: |
|
 21:16
Forº
thusº
hath Yahwehº
saidºº
untoº
me, Withinº
a year,º
according to the yearsº
of an hireling,º
and allº
the gloryº
of Kedarº
shall fail:ºº |
 21:17
and the remnant of the strong bows of the sons of Kedar shall be small: for the Lord God of Israel has spoken [it]. |
|
 21:17
And the residueº
of the numberº
of archers,º
the mighty menº
of the childrenº
of Kedar,º
shall be diminished:ºº
forº
Yahwehº
Elohimº
of Israelº
hath spokenºº
[it]. |
