beforeº
me,º
and beº
thou perfect.º |

17:1 ¶
And when Avram was ninety years old and nine, Yahweh appeared to Avram, and said unto him, I [am] El Shadday; walk before me, and be thou perfect. |
|
17:2
And I will makeºº
my covenantº
betweenº
me and thee, and will multiplyºº
thee exceedingly.º |
|
17:2
And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. |
|
17:3
And

fellºº
onº
his face:º
and
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
talkedºº
withº
him, saying,ºº |

And Avram fell on his face: and Elohim talked with him, saying, |

17:4
As for me,º
behold,º
my covenantº
[is] withº
thee, and thou shalt beº
a fatherº
of manyº
nations.º |
|
17:4
As for me, behold, my covenant [is] with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. |
|
17:5
Neitherº
shallº
thy nameº
any moreº
be calledºº
´Avräm
אַברָם,º
but thy nameº
shall beº
´Avrähäm
אַברָהָם;º
forº
a fatherº
of manyº
nationsº
have I madeº
thee.ºº |
|
17:5
Neither shall thy name any more be called Avram, but thy name shall be Avraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. |

17:6
And I will makeºº
thee exceedingº
fruitful,ºº
and I will makeºº
nationsº
of thee, and kingsº
shall come outºº
ofº
thee. |
|
17:6
And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. |
|
17:7
And I will establishººº
my covenantº
betweenº
me and thee and thy seedº
afterº
theeº
in their generationsº
for an everlastingº
covenant,º
to beº
an
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
unto thee, and to thy seedº
afterº
thee.º |

17:7
And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be an Elohim unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. |
|
17:8
And I will giveºº
unto thee, and to thy seedº
afterº
thee,ºº
the landº
wherein thou art a stranger,ºº
allº
the landº
of
Cænä`an
כְּנָעַן,º
for an everlastingº
possession;º
and I will beº
their
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים.º |

And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Kenaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their Elohim. |

17:9 ¶
And

אַברָהָם,º
Thouº
shalt keepººº
my covenantº
therefore, thou,º
and thy seedº
afterº
theeº
in their generations.º |

17:9 ¶
And Elohim said unto Avraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. |
|
17:10
Thisº
[is] my covenant,º
whichº
ye shall keep,ºº
betweenº
me and you and thy seedº
afterº
thee;º
Everyº
man childº
among you shall be circumcised.ºº |
|
17:10
This [is] my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. |
|
17:11
And ye shall circumciseºººº
the fleshº
of your foreskin;º
and it shall beº
a tokenº
of the covenantº
betwixtº
me and you. |

17:11
And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you. |
|
17:12
And he that is eightº
daysº
oldº
shall be circumcisedºº
among you, everyº
man childº
in your generations,º
he that is bornº
in the house,º
or boughtº
with moneyº
of anyºº
stranger,ºº
whichº
[is] notº
of thy seed.ºº |

17:12
And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which [is] not of thy seed. |
|
17:13
He that is bornº
in thy house,º
and he that is boughtº
with thy money,º
must needsºº
be circumcised:ºº
and my covenantº
shall beº
in your fleshº
for an everlastingº
covenant.º |

17:13
He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. |
|
17:14
And the uncircumcisedº
man childº
whoseºº
fleshº
of his foreskinº
is notº
circumcised,ºº
thatº
soulº
shall be cut offºº
from his people;ºº
he hath brokenººº
my covenant.º |
|
17:14
And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant. |
|
17:15 ¶
And

As for

thy wife,º
thou shalt notº
callººº
her nameº

שָׂרַי,º

[shall] her nameº
[be]. |

17:15 ¶
And Elohim said unto Avraham, As for Saray thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Saray, but Sarah [shall] her name [be]. |
|
17:16
And I will blessºº
her, and giveºº
thee a sonº
alsoº
ofº
her: yea, I will blessºº
her, and she shall beº
[a mother] of nations;º
kingsº
of peopleº
shall beº
ofº
her. |

17:16
And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be [a mother] of nations; kings of people shall be of her. |
|
17:17
Then

uponº
his face,º
and laughed,ºº
and saidºº
in his heart,º
Shall [a child] be bornºº
unto him that is an hundredº
yearsº
old?º
and shall
§ärà
שָׂרָה,º
that is ninetyº
yearsº
old,º
bear?ºº |

Then Avraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall [a child] be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? |

17:18
And

אֱלֹהִים,º
O thatº
Yišmä`ë´l
יִשׁמָעֵאלº
might liveºº
beforeº
thee!º |

And Avraham said unto Elohim, O that Yishmael might live before thee! |

17:19
And
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
said,ºº

thy wifeº
shall bearºº
thee a sonº
indeed;º
and thou shalt callººº
his nameº
Yixçäk
יִצחָק:º
and I will establishººº
my covenantº
withº
him for an everlastingº
covenant,º
[and] with his seedº
afterº
him.º |

And Elohim said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Yitzchaq: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, [and] with his seed after him. |
|
17:20
And as for
Yišmä`ë´l
יִשׁמָעֵאל,º
I have heardº
thee:ºº
Behold,º
I have blessedºº
him, and will make him fruitful,ººº
and will multiplyºº
him exceedingly;º
twelveºº
princesº
shall he beget,ºº
and I will makeº
himºº
a greatº
nation.º |

17:20
And as for Yishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation. |
|
17:21
But my covenantº
will I establishºº
withº
Yixçäk
יִצחָק,º
whichº
§ärà
שָׂרָהº
shall bearºº
unto thee at thisº
set timeº
in the nextº
year.º |
|
17:21
But my covenant will I establish with Yitzchaq, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year. |
|
17:22
And he left offºº
talkingºº
withº
him, and
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
went upºº
fromºº
´Avrähäm
אַברָהָם.º |

17:22
And he left off talking with him, and Elohim went up from Avraham. |
|
17:23 ¶
And
´Avrähäm
אַברָהָםº
tookººº
Yišmä`ë´l
יִשׁמָעֵאלº
his son,º
and allº
that were bornº
in his house,º
and allº
that were boughtº
with his money,º
everyº
maleº
among the menºº
of
´Avrähäm's
אַברָהָםº
house;º
and circumcisedººº
the fleshº
of their foreskinº
in the selfsameºº
day,º
asº
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
had saidºº
untoº
him. |

17:23 ¶
And Avraham took Yishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Avraham's house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as Elohim had said unto him. |
|
17:24
And

[was] ninetyº

and nine,º
when he was circumcisedºº
in the fleshº
of his foreskin.º |

And Avraham [was] ninety years old and nine, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. |

יִשׁמָעֵאלº
his sonº
[was] thirteenºº
yearsº
old,º
when he was circumcisedººº
in the fleshº
of his foreskin.º |

17:25
And Yishmael his son [was] thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. |

17:26
In the selfsameºº
dayº
was
´Avrähäm
אַברָהָםº
circumcised,ºº
and
Yišmä`ë´l
יִשׁמָעֵאלº
his son.º |

17:26
In the selfsame day was Avraham circumcised, and Yishmael his son. |
|
17:27
And allº
the menºº
of his house,º
bornº
in the house,º
and boughtº
with moneyº
ofºº
the stranger,ºº
were circumcisedºº
withº
him. |

17:27
And all the men of his house, born in the house, and bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised with him. |
