 22:1 ¶ And it came to passº afterº theseº things,º that ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº did temptººº ´Avrähäm אַברָהָם,º and saidºº untoº him, ´Avrähäm אַברָהָם:º and he said,ºº Behold,º [here] I [am].

 22:1 ¶ And it came to pass after these things, that Elohim did tempt Avraham, and said unto him, Avraham: and he said, Behold, [here] I [am].

 22:2 And he said,ºº Takeº nowºººº thy son,ºº thine onlyº [son]º Yixçäk יִצחָק,º whomº thou lovest,ºº and getº theeºº intoº the landº of Môriyyà מוֹרִיָּה;º and offerº himºº thereº for a burnt offeringº uponº oneº of the mountainsº whichº I will tellºº thee of.º

 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only [son] Yitzchaq, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriyyah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

 22:3 ¶ And ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº rose up earlyºº in the morning,º and saddledººº his ass,º and tookººº twoº of his young menº withº him, and Yixçäk יִצחָקº his son,º and claveºº the woodº for the burnt offering,º and rose up,ºº and wentººº untoº the placeº of whichº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº had toldºº him.

 22:3 ¶ And Avraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Yitzchaq his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which Elohim had told him.

 22:4 Then on the thirdº dayº ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº lifted upººº his eyes,º and sawººº the placeº afar off.ºº

 22:4 Then on the third day Avraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

 22:5 And ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº saidºº untoº his young men,º Abideºº ye hereº withº the ass;º and Iº and the ladº will goººº yonderºº and worship,ºº and come againºº toº you.

 22:5 And Avraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.

 22:6 And ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº tookººº the woodº of the burnt offering,º and laidºº [it] uponº Yixçäk יִצחָקº his son;º and he tookººº the fireº in his hand,º and a knife;º and they wentººº bothº of them together.º

 22:6 And Avraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid [it] upon Yitzchaq his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.

 22:7 And Yixçäk יִצחָקº spakeºº untoº ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº his father,º and said,ºº My father:º and he said,ºº Hereº [am] I, my son.º And he said,ºº Beholdº the fireº and the wood:º but whereº [is] the lambº for a burnt offering?º

 22:7 And Yitzchaq spake unto Avraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here [am] I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where [is] the lamb for a burnt offering?

 22:8 And ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº said,ºº My son,º ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº will provideºº himself a lambº for a burnt offering:º so they wentººº bothº of themº together.º

 22:8 And Avraham said, My son, Elohim will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

 22:9 And they cameºº toº the placeº whichº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº had toldºº him of; and ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº builtººº an altarº there,º and laidºº the woodº in order,ºººº and boundººº Yixçäk יִצחָקº his son,º and laidºº him onº the altarº uponºº the wood.º

 22:9 And they came to the place which Elohim had told him of; and Avraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Yitzchaq his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

 22:10 And ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº stretched forthººº his hand,º and tookººº the knifeº to slayººº his son.º

 22:10 And Avraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.

 22:11 And the angelº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº calledºº untoº him out ofº heaven,º and said,ºº ´Avrähäm אַברָהָם,º ´Avrähäm אַברָהָם:º and he said,ºº Hereº [am] I.

 22:11 And the angel of Yahweh called unto him out of heaven, and said, Avraham, Avraham: and he said, Here [am] I.

 22:12 And he said,ºº Layºº notº thine handº uponº the lad,º neitherº doº thouºº any thingº unto him: forº nowº I knowºº thatº thouº fearestº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º seeing thou hast notº withheldººº thy son,ºº thine onlyº [son] fromº me.

 22:12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest Elohim, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only [son] from me.

 22:13 And ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº lifted upººº his eyes,º and looked,ºº and beholdº behindº [him] a ramº caughtºº in a thicketº by his horns:º and ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº wentººº and tookººº the ram,º and offered him upºº for a burnt offeringº in the steadº ofº his son.º

 22:13 And Avraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind [him] a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Avraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

 22:14 And ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº calledºº the nameº of thatº placeº Yähwè יָהוֶה Yir´è יִראֶה:º asº it is saidºº [to] this day,º In the mountº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº it shall be seen.ºº

 22:14 And Avraham called the name of that place Yahweh Yireh: as it is said [to] this day, In the mount of Yahweh it shall be seen.

 22:15 ¶ And the angelº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº calledºº untoº ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº out ofº heavenº the second time,º

 22:15 ¶ And the angel of Yahweh called unto Avraham out of heaven the second time,

 22:16 And said,ºº By myself have I sworn,ºº saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º forº becauseºº thou hast doneººº thisº thing,º and hast notº withheldººº thy son,ºº thine onlyº [son]:

 22:16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith Yahweh, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only [son]:

 22:17 Thatº in blessingºº I will blessºº thee, and in multiplyingºº I will multiplyººº thy seedº as the starsº of the heaven,º and as the sandº whichº [is] uponº the seaº shore;º and thy seedº shall possessººº the gateº of his enemies;ºº

 22:17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which [is] upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

 22:18 And in thy seedº shall allº the nationsº of the earthº be blessed;ºº becauseºº thou hast obeyedºº my voice.º

 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

 22:19 So ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº returnedºº untoº his young men,º and they rose upºº and wentººº togetherº toº Bæ´ër Ševa` בְּאֵר־שֶׁבַע;º and ´Avrähäm אַברָהָםº dweltºº at Bæ´ër Ševa` בְּאֵר־שֶׁבַע.º

 22:19 So Avraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beer-Sheva; and Avraham dwelt at Beer-Sheva.

 22:20 ¶ And it came to passº afterº theseº things,º that it was toldºº ´Avrähäm אַברָהָם,º saying,ºº Behold,º Milcà מִלכָּה,º sheº hath alsoº bornºº childrenº unto thy brotherº Näçôr נָחוֹר;º

 22:20 ¶ And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Avraham, saying, Behold, Milkah, she hath also born children unto thy brother Nachor;

 22:21 º `Ûx עוּץº his firstborn,º and Bûz בּוּזº his brother,º and Kæmû´ël קְמוּאֵלº the fatherº of ´Áräm אֲרָם,º

 22:21 Utz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Qemuel the father of Aram,

 22:22 And Ce$eð כֶּשֶׂד,º and Çázô חֲזוֹ,º and Pildäš פִּלדָּשׁ,º and Yiðläf יִדלָף,º and Bæ±û´ël בְּתוּאֵל.º

 22:22 And Kesed, and Chazo, and Pildash, and Yidlaf, and Bethuel.

 22:23 And Bæ±û´ël בְּתוּאֵלº begatººº Rivkà רִבקָה:º theseº eightº Milcà מִלכָּהº did bearºº to Näçôr נָחוֹר,º ´Avrähäm's אַברָהָםº brother.º

 22:23 And Bethuel begat Rivqah: these eight Milkah did bear to Nachor, Avraham's brother.

 22:24 And his concubine,º whose nameº [was] Ræ´ûmà רְאוּמָה,º sheº bareºº alsoºº †evaç טֶבַח,º and Gaçam גַּחַם,º and Taçaš תַּחַשׁ,º and Ma`á¢à מַעֲכָה.º

 22:24 And his concubine, whose name [was] Reumah, she bare also Tevach, and Gacham, and Tachash, and Maakhah.
