And Adam knew Chawwah his wife; and she conceived, and bare Qayin, and said, I have gotten a man from Yahweh. |

his brother°°

הָבֶל.°
And
Hävel
הָבֶל°
was°
a keeper°°
of sheep,°
but
Kayin
קַיִן°
was°
a tiller°°
of the ground.° |

And she again bare his brother Havel. And Havel was a keeper of sheep, but Qayin was a tiller of the ground. |

And in process°°
of time°
it came to pass,°
that
Kayin

brought°°
of the fruit°°
of the ground°
an offering°
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה.° |

And in process of time it came to pass, that Qayin brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto Yahweh. |

הָבֶל,°
he°
also°
brought°°
of the firstlings°°
of his flock°
and of the fat°°
thereof. And

יָהוֶה°
had respect°°
unto°
Hävel
הָבֶל°
and to°
his offering:° |

And Havel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And Yahweh had respect unto Havel and to his offering: |

Kayin
קַיִן°
and to°
his offering°
he had not respect.°°°
And
Kayin

was very°
wroth,°°
and his countenance°
fell.°° |

But unto Qayin and to his offering he had not respect. And Qayin was very wroth, and his countenance fell. |

art thou wroth?°°

And Yahweh said unto Qayin, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? |

thou doest well,°°
shalt thou not°
be accepted?°
and if°
thou doest not°
well,°°
sin°
lieth°°
at the door.°
And unto°
thee [shall be] his desire,°
and thou°
shalt rule°°
over him. |

If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee [shall be] his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. |

and it came to pass,°

And Qayin talked with Havel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Qayin rose up against Havel his brother, and slew him. |

And Yahweh said unto Qayin, Where [is] Havel thy brother? And he said, I know not: [Am] I my brother's keeper? |

hast thou done?°°
the voice°
of thy brother's°
blood°
crieth°°
unto°
me from°
the ground.° |

And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. |

And now°
[art] thou°
cursed°°
from°
the earth,°
which°
hath opened°°°
her mouth°
to receive°°
thy brother's°°
blood°
from thy hand;°° |

And now [art] thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; |

When°
thou tillest°°°
the ground,°
it shall not°
henceforth°°
yield°°
unto thee her strength;°
a fugitive°°
and a vagabond°°
shalt thou be°
in the earth.° |

4:12
When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. |

And

Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
My punishment°
[is] greater°
than I can bear.°°° |

And Qayin said unto Yahweh, My punishment [is] greater than I can bear. |

4:14
Behold,°
thou hast driven me out°°°
this day°
from°°
the face°
of the earth;°
and from°
thy face°°
shall I be hid;°°
and I shall be°
a fugitive°°
and a vagabond°°
in the earth;°
and it shall come to pass,°°
[that] every one°
that findeth°
me°°
shall slay°
me.°° |

Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, [that] every one that findeth me shall slay me. |

4:15

unto him, Therefore°

slayeth°°
Kayin
קַיִן,°
vengeance shall be taken°°
on him sevenfold.°
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°

a mark°
upon
Kayin
קַיִן,°
lest°
any°
finding°°
him should kill°°
him. |

And Yahweh said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Qayin, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And Yahweh set a mark upon Qayin, lest any finding him should kill him. |

4:16 ¶
And

from the presence°°

Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
and dwelt°°
in the land°
of
Nôđ
נוֹד,°
on the east°
of
`Ëđen
עֵדֶן.° |

And Qayin went out from the presence of Yahweh, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. |

the name°
of the city,°

And Lemekh took unto him two wives: the name of the one [was] Adah, and the name of the other Tzillah. |

he°

the father°
of such as dwell°°
in tents,°
and [of such as have] cattle.° |

And Adah bare Yaval: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and [of such as have] cattle. |

such as handle°°
the harp°

And his brother's name [was] Yuval: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. |

And Tzillah, she also bare Tuval-Qayin, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tuval-Qayin [was] Naamah. |

לֶמֶך°

unto his wives,°

עָדָה°

Xillà
צִלָּה,°
Hear°°
my voice;°
ye wives°
of
Lemeȼ
לֶמֶך,°
hearken°°
unto my speech:°
for°
I have slain°°
a man°
to my wounding,°
and a young man°
to my hurt.° |

And Lemekh said unto his wives, Adah and Tzillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lemekh, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt. |

shall be avenged°°
sevenfold,°
truly
Lemeȼ
לֶמֶך°
seventy°
and sevenfold.° |

If Qayin shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lemekh seventy and sevenfold. |

And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Sheth: For Elohim, [said she], hath appointed me another seed instead of Havel, whom Qayin slew. |
