[them] rose upºº
to meetºº
them; and he bowedºº
himselfº
with his faceº
toward the ground;º |

19:1 ¶
And there came two angels to Sedom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sedom: and Lot seeing [them] rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; |

19:2
And he said,ºº
Beholdº
now,º
my
´áðönîm
אֲדֹנִים,º
turn in,ºº
I pray you,º
intoº
your servant'sº
house,º
and tarry all night,ºº
and washºº
your feet,º
and ye shall rise up early,ºº
and goºº
on your ways.º
And they said,ºº
Nay;º
butº
we will abideºº
in the streetº
all night.ººº |

And he said, Behold now, my adonim, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night. |
|
19:3
And he pressedºº
upon them greatly;º
and they turned inºº
untoº
him, and enteredºº
intoº
his house;º
and he madeºº
them a feast,º
and did bakeºº
unleavened bread,º
and they did eat.ºº |
|
19:3
And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat. |
|
19:4 ¶
But beforeº
they lay down,ºº
the menºº
of the city,º
[even] the menºº
of
Sæðöm
סְדֹם,º
compassedººº
the houseº
round,ºº
both oldº
and young,ºº
allº
the peopleº
from every quarter:ºº |
|
19:4 ¶
But before they lay down, the men of the city, [even] the men of Sedom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: |
|
19:5
And they calledºº
untoº

and saidºº
unto him, Whereº
[are] the menºº
whichº
came inºº
toº
thee this night?º
bring them outºº
untoº
us, that we may knowºº
them. |

19:5
And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where [are] the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. |
|
19:6
And

at the doorº

them, and shutºº
the doorº
afterº
him,º |

And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, |
|
19:7
And said,ºº
I pray you,º
brethren,º
do not so wickedly.ººº |

And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. |
|
19:8
Beholdº
now,º
I have twoº
daughtersº
whichº
have notº
knownºº
man;º
let me, I pray you,º
bring them outººº
untoº
you, and doºº
ye to them as [is] goodº
in your eyes:º
onlyº
unto theseº
menºº
doºº
nothing;ºº
forº
thereforeºº
cameºº
they under the shadowº
of my roof.º |

19:8
Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as [is] good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. |
|
19:9
And they said,ºº
Standºº
back.º
And they saidºº
[again], This oneº
[fellow] came inºº
to sojourn,ºº
and he will needsºº
be a judge:ºº
nowº
will we deal worseºº
with thee, thanº
with them. And they pressedºº
soreº
upon the man,º
[even]

and came nearºº
to breakºº
the door.º |

And they said, Stand back. And they said [again], This one [fellow] came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, [even] Lot, and came near to break the door. |

19:10
But the menºº
put forthººº
their hand,º
and pulledººº

into the houseº
toº
them, and shutºº
toº
the door.º |

19:10
But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door. |
|
19:11
And they smoteºº
the menºº
thatº
[were] at the doorº
of the houseº
with blindness,º
both smallºº
and great:º
so that they weariedºº
themselvesº
to findºº
the door.º |

19:11
And they smote the men that [were] at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door. |
|
19:12 ¶
And the menºº
saidºº
untoº

Hast thou hereº
anyº
besides?º
son in law,º
and thy sons,º
and thy daughters,º
and whatsoeverºº
thou hast in the city,º
bringº
[them] outºº
ofº
this place:º |

19:12 ¶
And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring [them] out of this place: |
|
19:13
Forº
weº
will destroyººº
thisº
place,º
becauseº
the cryº
of themº
is waxen greatººº
beforeº
the faceº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה;º
and
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath sentºº
us to destroyºº
it. |
|
19:13
For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of Yahweh; and Yahweh hath sent us to destroy it. |
|
19:14
And

לוֹטº
went out,ºº
and spakeºº
untoº
his sons in law,º
which marriedºº
his daughters,º
and said,ºº
Up,ºº
get you outºº
ofº
thisº
place;º
forº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
will destroyººº
this city.º
But he seemedº
as one that mockedºº
untoº
his sons in law.º |

19:14
And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for Yahweh will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law. |
|
19:15 ¶
And whenº
the morningº
arose,ºº
then the angelsº
hastenedºº

saying,ºº
Arise,ºº
takeººº
thy wife,º
and thy twoº
daughters,º
which are here;ºº
lestº
thou be consumedºº
in the iniquityº
of the city.º |

19:15 ¶
And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. |

19:16
And while he lingered,ºº
the menºº
laid holdºº
upon his hand,º
and upon the handº
of his wife,º
and upon the handº
of his twoº
daughters;º
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
being mercifulº
untoº
him: and they brought him forth,ºº
and setº
himºº
withoutºº
the city.º |

19:16
And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; Yahweh being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. |
|
19:17 ¶
And it came to pass,º
when they had brought them forthººº
abroad,º
that he said,ºº
Escapeºº
forº
thy life;º
lookºº
notº
behindº
thee,º
neitherº
stayºº
thou in allº
the plain;º
escapeºº
to the mountain,º
lestº
thou be consumed.ºº |

19:17 ¶
And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. |

And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, Yahweh: |

Beholdº
now,º
thy servantº

and thou hast magnifiedºº
thy mercy,º
whichº
thou hast shewedºº
untoº
meº
in savingººº
my life;º
and Iº
cannotººº
escapeºº
to the mountain,º
lestº
some evilº
takeºº
me, and I die:ºº |

Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die: |

19:20
Beholdº
now,º
thisº
cityº
[is] nearº
to fleeºº
unto,º
and itº
[is] a little one:º
Oh,º
let me escapeºº
thither,º
([is] itº
notº
a little one?)º
and my soulº
shall live.ºº |

19:20
Behold now, this city [is] near to flee unto, and it [is] a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, ([is] it not a little one?) and my soul shall live. |

19:21
And he saidºº

him, See,º
I have acceptedººº
theeº
concerning thisº
thingº
also,º
that I will notº
overthrowººº
this city,º
for the whichº
thou hast spoken.ºº |

19:21
And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken. |
|
19:22
Hasteºº
thee, escapeºº
thither;º
forº
I cannotººº
doºº
any thingº
tillº
thou be comeºº
thither.º
Thereforeºº
the nameº
of the cityº
was calledºº
Xö`ar
צֹעַר.º |
|
19:22
Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Tzoar. |
|
19:23 ¶
The sunº
was risenºº
uponº
the earthº
when

צֹעַר.º |
|
19:23 ¶
The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Tzoar. |
|
19:24
Then
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
rainedºº
uponº

סְדֹםº
and uponº
`Ámörà
עֲמֹרָהº
brimstoneº
and fireº
fromºº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
out ofº
heaven;º |

19:24
Then Yahweh rained upon Sedom and upon Amorah brimstone and fire from Yahweh out of heaven; |
|
19:25
And he overthrewººº
thoseº
cities,º
and allº
the plain,º
and allº
the inhabitantsºº
of the cities,º
and that which grewº
upon the ground.º |
|
19:25
And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. |
|
19:26 ¶
But his wifeº
lookedº
backºº
from behindºº
him,º
and she becameº
a pillarº
of salt.º |
|
19:26 ¶
But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. |
|
19:27 ¶
And

gat up earlyºº
in the morningº

the placeº
whereºº
he stoodººº
beforeº

19:27 ¶
And Avraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before Yahweh: |

סְדֹםº
and
`Ámörà
עֲמֹרָה,º
and towardºº
allº
the landº
of the plain,º
and beheld,ºº
and, lo,º
the smokeº
of the countryº
went upºº
as the smokeº
of a furnace.º |

19:28
And he looked toward Sedom and Amorah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace. |
|
19:29 ¶
And it came to pass,º
when

destroyedººº
the citiesº
of the plain,º
that
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
rememberedººº
´Avrähäm
אַברָהָם,º
and sentººº

out of the midstºº
of the overthrow,º
when he overthrewººº
the citiesº
in the whichºº

dwelt.ºº |

19:29 ¶
And it came to pass, when Elohim destroyed the cities of the plain, that Elohim remembered Avraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt. |

19:30 ¶
And

צֹעַר,ºº
and dweltºº
in the mountain,º
and his twoº
daughtersº
withº
him; forº
he fearedºº
to dwellºº

and he dweltºº
in a cave,º

and his twoº
daughters.º |

19:30 ¶
And Lot went up out of Tzoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Tzoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters. |

19:31
And the firstbornº
saidºº
untoº
the younger,º
Our fatherº
[is] old,ºº
and [there is] notº
a manº
in the earthº
to come inºº
untoº
us after the mannerº
of allº
the earth:º |

19:31
And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father [is] old, and [there is] not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth: |
|
19:32
Come,ººº
let us makeººº
our fatherº
drinkºº
wine,º
and we will lieºº
withº
him, that we may preserveºº
seedº
of our father.ºº |

Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. |

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, [and] lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. |

And they madeººº

thatº
nightº
also:º
and the youngerº
arose,ºº
and layºº
withº
him; and he perceivedºº
notº
when she lay down,ºº
nor when she arose.ºº |

And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. |

בֶּן־עַמִּי:º
the sameº
[is] the fatherº
of the childrenº

`Ammôn
עַמּוֹןº
untoº
this day.º |

And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Ben-Ammi: the same [is] the father of the children of Ammon unto this day. |
